Well we are still fighting for kitten no. 3 now called Squirt by the vets.

Took him in yesterday morning near collapse temp low.
They kept him in all day, I collected him at 7pm and gave him a/d , cimicat and lectade (in various combinations) hourly through the night.

Back to vets at 8 am this morning and they kept him in on a drip. Temp was normal this morning so that was good. They reported that he had been eating on his own (after a fuss) and using the tray as normal.

He's still very subdued, I have just managed to get a few mls of AD in him and will try again at 11.
He's back to the vets for the day tomorrow.

Angie you`ve done your best and little one isnt suffering any longer  hard as it is you have to keep strong because in the order of things you are most important right now because the rest of the kittens family need you, dont take any nonsense from the vet either, as soon as practical feet up and have a brew; I really know how you are feeling and wish I could make it better for us all

Sadly went in this morning and little kitten was alive but very cold and stiff so took him to the vet (never guess which one I saw )

Anyway, temp not recording so we let him go. Second kitten with me 'not too bad' and we are now going to try some bayteril (sp) as well as the synulox.

Makes me wonder if the poorly one that died did have a temp, but instead was below normal readings, and was already on her way out of this life?  :(

I know how you feel Angie, so will a lot of people on here too, you feel trapped, helpless and stressed by it all.
These poor cats didn't ask to be born, which is why the spay and neuter message is so important, also vaccinations.  I think there seems to be a lot of nasty viruses out there at the moment, I don't know the cause, but it could well be due to overbreeding cats which are far too plentiful at the moment, and people take them on with less thought than choosing a box of chocolates.  Five minutes later they are bored of them.   >:(

Take care, see you later when I come to collect the crush carrier.

Vets now phoned and the little black and white kitten is dead though I do wonder how hard they really tried.

others seem ok this morning though obviously not as not much food has been eaten.
Mum given ab.

The vet told me to quarter the ab tablet for each kitten today and I will do so later, giving the fourth quarter to Portia who looks ok at the moment.

oh well, can't home them kill them is my motto for the day.

well today started off well, was beginning to feel everything was slowly coming under control at last.
took mum off for an afternoon at Reading, got back at 6 to start the battening down of hatches.

Went to feed these lot and 2 were looking a bit sorry for themselves, black and white was was bubbling from nose. had a little to eat (too stressed by now to eat much) then went back up to se them and little black and white one looked even worse and was totally listless (about 30mins later).

So a quick panic and took mum and kits to vets now. B/w dehdrated and reluctant to move, has a temp. One of the black ones also has a little temp.
So £260 later, the b'w one is to stay in overnight with an IV (vet did say we could pts) and Me back at home having a right panic about them and the bottlefeeds.

Bottlefeeds rushed to Jill so that I can concentrate on these little ones.

The three don't seem to bad , just been in with them to try and syringe some cimicat but one went ff to eat (!) and him and another blackone and me had a little game of push ball around.

OK, I'm panicking. Having just lost the 3 a few weeks ago and half of me thinks the vets bigged it up to get money from us. He is talking about perhaps getting an autopsy done and suggested the RSPCA were having problems with their kittens at the moment.

I'm too tired for all this.

Vets gave the kittens the all clear today.:cheer:

One of mum's nipples is still a bit doughy so she has some more ab's to take.

Pen given good clean and mum and kittens back in and fed.

Dawn's mastitis is getting better - almost all gone.
The kittens are looking good, still a little squinty and one has a nice snuffle but this is Day 5 for ab's.

Will take them back for a check up later after ab's finished.

Hope this little family will be ok Angie

Little ones look a bit brighter today - at least they are clean.
They are a good size and are comfortable to be handled, though how they will feel after a week of eye treatment and un-palatable synulox will be interesting.
Mum is relaxed and has managed to knock over the bottle of synulox twice today so I had to pick up some more when I took the babies in.
She is still very hard underneath but seems more content in herself, hopefully the ab's with clear her lumps soon.

As to names, the man who found them works at RR so mum is Dawn and the four boys Cloud (little white on tum), Ghost, Shadow (the black twins) and Wraith (black and white).

the other 2 kittens arrived this morning. both black.

visit to vet today. poor mum has mastitis, it feels like she has 6 hard-boiled eggs under her - no wonder her first reaction was to hiss last night. she's dripping milk.

4 kittens have bad eyes and respiratory infections, green snot. one has the beginning of pneumonia.

antibiotics and eye cream for them all. the 4 little ones are all boys.

hopefully we caught them all just in time.

You should have taken me along, I was expecting you to get a call tonight sometime after 10.00 when it all goes a little quieter outside.  I hope OH went along with you.

I suspect the kittens smelled of your hands and not of her as much as usual, and after all she is in a strange place herself.  I do worry that the number of cats and kittens we seem to be taking in these days seem to have come with something, whereas before, I don't recall them all being so sickly.

Anyway, well done indeed, even though you were very naughty not taking me along as body guard!  You must be  :tired:

Well my two old girls are homeless and have no pen to go in. They are now loose in the kitten room for the latest and last emergency.

mum and 3 (possibly 4) kittens in garage - I have been putting off taking them in but was told that they were going to give one of the kittens away - not that they will have been able to catch it of course.

Mum is black and friendly and was picked up by myself and Judith. We then set up trap and I have just got back from picking up the two kittens.

They are small, thin, wet and stink of pilchards. There is an eye thing going on and I think one is snuffly so its off to vets tomorrow and more care to stop the bottle feeds from catching anything.

mum wasn't as pleased as I thought she'd be to see them

we must start rehoming some soon ..... :'(
