I'm sorry to hear about Suki :(  RIP Suki - have fun at the bridge with all the other bridge babes.

That's great that you're thinking of adopting an oldie.

We are going to re-home another rspca cat from our local centre, another female, and it will be another older cat - around 8/9 years old. We know we could well be setting ourselves up for more heartache, but we thought about how we changed Suki's life for the better, and we'd like to give another oldie that chance

Thats a lovely tribute to Suki, and you could easily still have 10 years with a cat thats 8.

My husband and I are bearing up, it's the 5th day without our little Lady, but we're both able to think about her without bursting into tears, we just feel sad.

Our two boys (Sully & Jasper) are clearly better, not sitting on windowsills as much now, but we can tell they do miss her.

My husband and I want to return to a 3 cat family at some point in the future - we know we can never replace our little Suki, but we'd prefer to have 3 as if anything happened to one of two, then we'd have one cat left on their own, and we know that would really affect them.

I'm not saying we'll be going down to our centre this weekend, but at some point we will, when we know it's right and when the boys appear ready.

Thank you alll for your kind words - its lovely to have a forum with such nice people on it.

We're slowly adjusting, just still expect her to see come in from outdoors, miaowing because her tummy's hungry, we're both still quite teary eyed most the time, but I'm sure we'll get better.

I dont know whether I mentioned this in the other thread, but on the Saturday when we took her to the vet the main reason was due to us seeing she had become incredibly wobbly, the vet seems to think she may have had a mini-stroke, which is why she was wobbly and had a vacant look to her eyes. We know we've done the right thing - and am so glad everyone out there agrees that it was just her time to go. To be honest we assumed she was 10 years old (got her when she was 8) - but both vets have guestimated her age to nearer 14, so a stroke is quite likely to happen at that age.

All we do know is that she had a comfy last night at home, and we had some special time with her first thing this morning, time which we'll always remember.

Sweet dreams my little lady. :RIP:

So sorry to hear the sad news, she will be at the Bridge by now safe and rejuvenated waiting for you until you are ready to collect her

The Greatest Gift

I always knew this time would come,
From the very instant our eyes first met.
How I loved you then! How I love you now!
I made a promise then, and I will keep that promise now...
You will not suffer from a pain that will not heal;
You will not know the loss of a life remembered, now gone.

It is for me alone to make this decision,
The price for the bright joy and pure laughter
You brought me during the time we shared.
I am the only one who can decide when it is time.
When my hope dies, and my fear rides high,
Just when I need you most, I must let you go.

It is for you alone to tell me when you are ready
For without your guidance, I will not know
When to lay my grief, my guilt, my anger
My sorrow and my selfish heart aside
And give you this last gift, this greatest gift.
Your eyes will speak to mine, and I will know.

The pain of this moment is excruciating.
Tears stream down my face in a river of sorrow.
And my heart drowns in a pool of grief.
For you have spoken and I have listened,
And unlike other decisions I have made
This one brings no relief...no comfort...no peace.

For if there´s one thing you´ve taught me,
If there´s only one thing I´ve learned...
Unconditional love has a condition after all,
I must be willing to let you go, when you speak to me
I must be willing to help you go, if you cannot go alone.
And I must accept my pain so you can be free of yours.

Go easily now, go quickly now,
Do not linger here, it is time for you to leave.
Go find your strength, go find your youth.
Go find the ones who've gone before you.
You are free to leave me now, free to let your spirit soar
Rest easy now, your pain will soon be gone.

I pray I will find comfort in my memories...
In the dark and lonely days ahead.
I cannot say I will not miss you, I cannot say I will not cry.
For only my tears can heal my broken heart.
But, I promise you this; as long as I live,
You will live, alive in my mind, forever in my heart.

So I give you this last gift, all I have left to give,
And this will be my greatest gift...sending you away.
It is the measure of my unconditional love...
For only the greatest love can say,
"Good-bye, go find the bridge, we'll meet again,
Loving you has been the greatest gift of all.

I read this earlier, but find it hard to know what to put. I know how devastated my partner and myself were when we had to make this decision about Parsley.

I hope you and your family are OK. You gave Suki the respect she deserved and let her go peacefully and with dignity.

RIP, Suki. I'm sure you'll be missed.

We made the decision and took her to the vets at 7 this morning.

The vet had put a lovely fleecy mat on the bench, though we took her on her piece of fleece.

We think in some ways Suki knew what was going to happen as she didnt put up any fight, it was literally seconds after the needle went in that she went to sleep forever  :(

It was very quick, and she looked so peaceful.

We took her then to my mum and dads and we've burried her in a lovely spot in their garden (we rent and dont want to leave her at some point). We're going to go to the garden centre and buy a nice rose to be ontop of her, and my dad who is a furniture restorer is going to make up a lovely little cross to mark it. We've put a make shift one for the time being :

Suki (Lady) 1997-2007.
