Nicky just sent me a text saying she needed transport urgently from Blackpool to West Sussex. (I'm assuming for a cat!) Can anyone help?
-
where in west sussex
-
Bless her, she didn't specifiy! Will send her an email and find out.
-
Should be able to provide some help - subject to dates and times.
-
As above, subject to date and times. That's a heck of a long journey though.
Can either do pickup in Blackpool to somewhere on M6 corridor or if she can get cat (I hope!) to Preston that would be easier for me.

I'm in Leicester. Could do part run, Say Knutsford Services to Leicester or Stoke.
-
Thanks guys - it is a long journey but the lady that phoned Nicky sounds ideal for this cat so she's trying to make it happen. Apparently it's Barnham, West Sussex.
-
I could collect puss at the bottom of the M40 (just south of Oxford, maybe?) and hand him or her over at the top of the M23 or similar.
-

So which bits of the route are covered?
-
Thats a good question!
Last time I did this I covered from J19 M6 down to Knutsford services.
Can either do exactly the same again or possibly extend this a bit at either end.
-
I'll cover Blackpool to Tiggerman again then. :)
If going by the map......
Blackpool - Preston - Sootyca
Preston - Knutsford - Tiggerman
Knutsford - Stoke - Moira - although looking at the map you do seem to be going a long way out of your way from Leicester.
Then there is the remainder of the M6/M6 Toll/M40 to cover
The options are then either:
M40 Oxford (ish) - M23 - Christine (Blip) which I presume takes in the M25
Then M23/A23/A27 seems to be the easiest
OR
A34 from M40 junction, down to Southampton then onto the M27 and A27
So we definitely need cover from M6 - M40 and then volunteers for either of the options for the last stages!
Phew.

Thanks Sootyca....I got a bit lost again! Will send this to Nicky, and see who she can rope in. ;)
-
No response from Nicky yet - but I do know she's having PC problems. Will keep you all updated.
-
When are you looking to do this?
A bit of a long shot I know, but I`m driving down south from the Midlands, leaving about 9 am this Sat, 8th. I could do say Corley services to Oxford sevices, but HAVE to be in Wokingham by 11am, if its any use.
If needed could have a cat here in my spare room overnight Friday if its easier as I do have to be on time this time!!!!! Usually the last one to arrive.
-
Hmmm, not sure if we could organise things that quickly....
The first bit is covered then, but the M6 - M40 definitely needs covering and the "last leg."
-
Someone has said they're travelling from Rugby to Weymouth on the 14th and if this covers any of the distance needed they'll happily do it.....does it? :shy:
Also an offer of Stoke to Coventry......any use?
-
Having seen the route, I can do from Winchester Services on the M3 to the final destination, I live just off the M27 and know the remainder of the route pretty well. Do you have an idea on date yet and I'd only be available certain datesw/times.
-
Up until 16th August I can take time off work as my boss is away (but would prefer weekend). After that it would have to be weekend for me.
-
I *think* it could almost be covered if everyone could do the 14th to get the run from Rugby - Weymouth.
Blackpool - Preston - Sootyca
Preston - Knutsford - Tiggerman
Knutsford - Stoke - Moira
Stoke - Rugby - NEEDED
Rugby - Winchester - JackSpratt's volunteer going to Weymouth but if they go down on the M40/A34/M3 that would take in Winchester services
Winchester - Destination - Bryony84
Moira, would you have any flexibility in your leg of the journey? Say, for example, if I did the whole run from Blackpool to Stoke (or even further down M6 so you don't have to go up to Knutsford) would you be able to pick up and take to Rugby if there is no other cover?
Karen

-
Karen, I could certainly do Stoke - Rugby, no problem.
-
If we're going for the 14th, I couldn't pick up in Winchester until 6.00 as I don't finish work til 5.30, not sure how that would impact on things.
-
Just catching up on this.
August 14th is on a Friday and I am busy with work that day so I am going to have
to give this a miss.
Really sorry. I dont like letting people down.
-
I can pick up/drop off any time on 14th as I have taken the day off work.
-
So Preston to Knutsford needs covering if EVERYONE else can do the 14th. ;)
-
We could have all the legs covered if we can get the timings right! So, revised schedule:
I'll do Blackpool to Stoke
Stoke - Rugby - Moira
Rugby - Winchester - JS's contact
Winchester - Destination - Bryony84 but only after 6pm.
JS, any idea what time the next leg need to be in Weymouth by as to coincide with Bryony's availability the Winchester stop would have to be about 6pm which may not be suitable for them?
Tiggerman, don't worry about letting people down it's not a problem. Weekday runs are obviously more problematic to arrange with people working. I'm off work at the moment so it isn't a problem for me to keep on the M6 down to Stoke (can even make a day out of it!). I 'm sure there will be other journeys - these Blackpool cats seem to be going everywhere for new homes! :Luv:
For timings, from Preston it normally takes me about an hour to get to the outskirts of Stoke so call it 1 3/4 hours maximum from Blackpool with no traffic problems! Other timings I have no idea on I'm afraid!

Got this message:
Hi, spoke to my hubby and that is fine. Would like to leave Rugby quite early though, so maybe could do it 13th and I'll have the cat overnight? Or to get to me for 10ish on the 14th. We can take to Winchester.
Could Moira get to Rugby for ten on the 14th? :)
-
We haven't got a pickup in Winchester though until 6pm!
-
Hmmmm. Not sure what I can do there......
-
We need a new Rugby to Winchester lift unless someone can do Bryonys bit earlier. Apparently, the lady who volunteered is going on holiday and was hoping to help on her way!
-
Well, I can still do from M40 round the M25 if required...
-
So we need to cover Stoke to Winchester is that right? Does your offer cover any of that Christine? :)
-
Unfortunately it doesn't JS!
Christine's offer of help means we go to option 2 which is need cover from Stoke - Oxford and then M23 - destination. I can get kitty further down the M6 if it helps but we are still stuck for the other legs. Looking at the map we ideally need someone who lives Coventry/Warwick/Banbury/Birmingham who would take to Oxford where Christine can pick up and then someone else from else from South London/or even nearer destination who can travel to M23 to take on final leg.
Alternatively we need someone probably Newbury/Oxford way who could collect from Rugby area (if reverting back to revised plan 1) or M6 toll to run down to Winchester.
Either way we are getting tight for time to get this sorted for Friday!
I know Nikki is overrun and wants to rehome some but this one may just be too far!!!

I'm loosing the plot a bit :) I can do Stoke to Oxford if that helps. Are we still aiming for Friday?
-
So we need to cover Stoke to Winchester is that right? Does your offer cover any of that Christine? :)
Yes: possibly as far as south of Oxford on the M40 and round the M25 to the top of the M3 (or part therof).
-
OK, now I'm confused - Karen, you're saying we have to take route 2? If Moira is covering Stoke to Oxford and Christine is covering from Oxford what's left?
-
If Moira is covering Stoke to Oxford and Christine is covering from Oxford what's left?
The home run from the top of the M3 (or other M25 junction) to destination.
-
Bryony can help with the last bit I think. Not sure where you could go to and she could pick up from though.
-

I couldn't do Oxford all the way to Winchester! Any journey with the M25 in it takes about four times as long :tired:
-
Christine, could you take the A34 to avoid the M25? We've always come back from up north through Oxford on the A34 and then on to the M3.
Its a much more direct route, about 1hr from Oxford to Winchester.
-
I knew I would confuse everything!! Basically, I wasn't expecting Christine to be going down the A34, which is the Oxford/Winchester route.
At the moment I think we have......
Blackpool - Stoke - Sootyca
Stoke - Oxford - Moira
Oxford - Winchester - ???????
Winchester - Destination - Bryony84
OR
Blackpool - Stoke - Sootyca
Stoke - Oxford - Moira
Oxford - M3 ish- Christine(Blip)
M3 - destination - ???????
I think if Christine did Oxford-Winchester it would be well out of her way as you are London area, aren't you? By dropping at M3 it is relatively local for her. Correct me if I'm wrong on that one!
Regarding the date, we were aiming for Friday to fit in with the person going down to Weymouth which won't work out for timings. I'm flexible and happy to change dates if that would help.

Sootyca, the M3 part will end up at Winchester whichever way the route goes so I can do the last bit either way. If you look on Google Maps, going in towards London/M25 increases the route by quite a lot so it might be better if we can find someone who can do Oxford down the A34 or who can pick up at the top of the A3 somewhere and I could meet them in Peterfield.
-
See, I'm getting confused with my motorways!!!! I was looking at the M23 which was the first one mentioned way back at the start!!!!
I know what you mean about the M25 (and certainly on a Friday!) - have only had the pleasure of that motorway once and kept getting distracted by low flying planes, much to the terror of the people I was driving at the time!!!

That would certainly work better: it is a lot shorter in distance.

You should try the A4 at Heathrow :shify: you can wave to the passengers from there!
-
Ok, so can any of you drivers tell me which bits need covering? :shy:
-
Either
Oxford - Winchester (to arrive Winchester services after 6pm this Friday). This option means Christine isn't used.
OR
A3/M25 area down to Petersfield (also on A3). I think!
Ideally it would be the first option as it would be a lot quicker.
-
Depending on urgency - could Bryony and Christine do the 29/30 August? Moira has kindly offered to cover Blackpool to Oxford if you both can. Have emailed Nicky asking how urgent the situation is.
-
If it is going to be August 30th I will be able to help if needed as I
will have some free time that day.
Blackpool to Oxford!!!!! Gasps of amazement.
Just let me know.
Regards
Tiggerman.
-
I'm visiting my mum in Lancashire that weekend hence the offer of long trip :)
-
Nicky received this today:
"I am so very sorry but my Grandmother has now found a little female cat, she was getting so impatient and really could not wait any longer. I was offered a 4 year old tabby when I mentioned to someone that I was looking for a cat, this person said she knew someone who was looking for a home for this cat. My Grandmother fell in love with her, I am very sorry but I just did not realise that it was difficult to transport your cat down here to West Sussex, I really hope she gets a nice home, thank you."
So apparently, it wasn't all about that cat as any cat.....Nicky is really unimpressed, but I think it's probably for the best.
-
Sorry to hear that this didn't work out. Hope Nicky's cat gets a really lovely home.
-
In all honesty, it would have been a heck of a trip for her to have to undergo. I'm sure the perfect home will come up for her.
-
I know Sootyca, but because the home sounded so ideal Nicky was desperately trying to sort it out. Sad that they didn't see the cat as worth waiting for, but if that's how they feel then I guess she's better off not going to them.
-
Oh, JS - I missed reply #45 and the question directly for me :( I am sorry. But as it is, it may have turned out for the best...
-
Not a problem, Christine. Both Nicky and I are thoroughly annoyed at this womans lack of regard for how much effort would be going into a transport run of that size.
-
Shame this didnt work out - but thats people for you.
-

Sorry it didn't work out, I've been following this and would have helped had it been in my area. I agree JS, we waited 2mths to get Pep (not for transport reasons) and it was frustrating at times but we just waited.
-
I can see it from both sides, i assume they never met the cat or would have taken it home then so a couple of weeks for a 'normal' person is a reasonable time to wait
-
Its such a shame this didn't work out, how did the woman not think it would be difficult to transport a cat all the way from blackpool to west sussex?
I think if you are attached enough to a particular cat/cats you will wait, I waited over a month for the girls, had other options offered but I was all attached and put up with a lot of crap from the RSPCA to get them. I don't know how the potential adoption happened obviouisly but I would be concerned about anyone adopting a cat who is incapable of waiting a few weeks tbh.
-
The people called Nicky and asked about this cat I think. But I personally feel it's probably for the best.
