I missed this yesterday, Carl, but glad to hear all is well.  Phew!

At our vet, they must get a lot of folks like you (and me  :evillaugh:) because they always show the accompanying humans the view down the 'scope or whatever, unprompted.  This is one of the many things I like about them.

I must really annoy the vet, I take a real interest in whats going on and why.   :evillaugh:

so the Vet had to keep elbowing your head out of the way in order to get an occasional  look down the scope himself ha ha
glad to hear Baggins is back to normal  ;D

the fluoroscene the vet used it cool stuff carl, i always reckoned it would be excellent to use if dressed up on halloween night.

the only thing is it should end up coming down your nostrils (often used to test if the tear duct is blocked, if so it wont be able to filter down the nose)  so anyway green glowing stuff out yer nostril wouldnt be such a cool look probably  :evillaugh:

(oh and if you didnt notice this dont panic..cats are pretty good at licking before you notice)

I'm like that too, luckily I've not been told to butt out yet  :evillaugh:  I call it taking an active interest  :)

You're right Lynn. It was fascinating, he put the drops in Bagginspants' eye, shone the light in and you could see the tiniest white speck toward the top of the pupil, obviously big enough to let an infection in though. worthwhile vet visit then, a small scratch to the cornea can lead onto an ulcer if not treated.

Good boy for being so brave about it and tell that bilbo to cut his nails i think  :evillaugh:

He's fine with them - I wrestled him to the ground (he's a big fella) and his mum applied the drops. As soon as we let him go, he'd forgotten everything and he's on to the next  thing. He's awesome, such a cheerful cat. Bilbo bears a grudge for ages  :evillaugh:

Thanks for the wishes

I took Bagginspants to the vet - by we got home from work his eye had returned to normal but I thought it wise to take him anyway. The vet examined his eye after applying some orange eye drops, and noticed a pipoint trauma on his pupil, so it's a course of eye drops to fight any opportunistic infection and all should be well  :)

Thanks for the help everyone

Baggins probably did have something in his eye, but Bilbo's attempt to get it out with the fat end of his Wiggly Waggler have exacerbated the problem   :tired:

cheers but i'll have forgot again by next week  :-:

and yes if it was systemic it would affect both eyes, You've quite clearly been spending far too much time wedding planning and choosing music and the boys feel abit neglected .. so bilbo just has to stab baggins in the eye and hey presto immediate attention

Vets at 5.30 tonight it is  :shy:

I tried bathing it Blackcat - it did seem to ease it somewhat, but I'll take him anyway to be sure. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac by proxy when it comes to the boys  :tired:

EDIT: You're right Lynn, I thought it may well be something in it. If it was dehydration or systemic would it affect one eye only?

Thanks very much  :)

If his proper main eyelid is partially covering the eye aswell carl then i'd be thinking there is something there irritating it, whereas in dehydration etc it looks like the 3rd eyelid is coming over (in actual fact thats due to the eyeball sinking into the socket)

Personally i'd be going to the vets..ha ha he does like to keep you busy !!

hope its ok though, may be a grass seed or such like or a scrape on the cornea.

think i would try a cotton ball with some warm slightly salty water on it, he may simply have something in it which is irritating it a bit. If it keeps up after you try that, then a trip to the vet as he may be coming down with something..

With some cats, the third eyelid shows when they are tired or relaxed, but if this isn't normal for Baggins, would still get him checked, just in case.
Cats were once gods; they have never forgotten this, nor have the people they own.

If he was tired, this could just be relaxation.

On the other hand it could signify a temperature or dehydration.

A visit to the vet is wise, especially if his third eyelid doesn't return to normal when he's more active.

Baggins' Eye
« Reply #1 on: July 18, 2007, 06:38:20 AM »
Hullo hullo

Just got up this morning and noticed Baggins' third eyelid half closed on his right eye. His eye is half closed over the top too. I'll telephone the vet as soon as they open to get an appointment for tonight, but does anyone know what might be the cause?

Thanks for any advice   :)
