Hullo ems

He was grand this morning - got up, wolfed down a bit of grub, tried to get out through the catflap (which I'd locked), got really grumpy and stormed off back upstairs to bed

Hopefully there wil be no more sick tonight - if there is, it's to the vets with him

Hmmm ... another development. Bilbo was sick again tonight, and more animal remains came out in it. It appears he's found a ready source of fast food and its not agreeing with him.

We're going to keep him in tomorrow to make sure he's not sick again.

Some cats are destined to be troublesome, I'm sure of it

Also worms can reside in muscle tissue and emerge when they feel like it

I was told that wormers dont stay in the body like stronghold, it gets excreted out pretty quickly. So you should be able to redose soon if you want to.

Ahuh... but Frontline isn't a knockdown. He could go out, pick up a flea, and although it might be dead a few hours later, the flea has already picked the larvae and the cat has swallowed the dead flea. That's the way it was for me, and it took me 4 months to figure out way he kept getting tapeworm back.

So While this tapeworm is inside him and active, you must keep the cat away from any posibilty of coming into contact with flea.

Just telephoned the vet - he said he was unhappy giving Billy another Milbemax so soon, and to keep an eye on him. He said that the worm may be a one off - either way, the Milbemax should still be doing its job.

Is it possible the worm was resident in the poor creature that Bilbo had just eaten?

I've ~~used~~ wasted 2 drontals, she won't eat them, put them in food, she won't eat it, crumbled in kitten milk - nope

Tan - it did remind me of a Pot Noodle oddly enough

Probably higher in nutritional value though.

He's not had a runny backside, in fact he's had no symptoms at all until he emptied his stomach all over the floor.

Yep, I've done battle with those horrid critters before...!

I won't tell you what I went through ridding my Tigger of these things - he was feral and most probably born with them.

If he's coughing up segments that size, you need to act decisively. Remember that fleas eat the tapeworm larve, the cat cleans itself, eats the fleas and it starts all over again.

So a two pronged approach is needed, tapeworm and fleas.

Yeah best to ask vet about giving a wormer so soon but i think it will be ok. When Rio was a youngling, he had a bad running bum and big tum for a long time and as he had already been wormed by CP when i became his slave, my old vet didn't want to worm him again. He was getting into danger zone having bad running bum when he was only 9 weeks so i was going to the vet alot trying different things they gave me but nowt made him better. In the end they wanted him and his bro (for company) in the hospital under a drip. I decided to get a 2nd opionion at another vets and they gave rio another dose of panacur and he was better overnight.

Hi Carl, it does sound like a tapeworm. Ya normally find bits of the worm around his bum they look like little seeds but if he is throwing segments up, it sounds like a fully adult worm. Wormer for tapeworm will sort it and kick the non rent payer out!

Hullo folks ...

Bilbo came in last night and had his tea as per usual, but not longer after was sick. In the sick (this is pretty nasty) was what looked to be the remains of a small mammal, but more alarmingly, a wormy thing. The worm looked flattish with lots of small thin ridges perpendicular to its body. It was about 4" long. It looked almost like a noodle, but it was moving slightly

Does this sound like a tapeworm? He was wormed and frontlined two weeks ago, and is of course treated regularly for both. Could the worm be from whatever he'd eaten outside?

He's fine today, and ate his breakfast with no problems.

I'm off to the vets on the way home for more milbemax, but I'd value any opinions.
