Humerous episode....thank goodness she can't read....mortified more like.

madam went to loo last night, me in bed, i hear a bang!  And Lexy zooming down the hall and skids on my bed.

I look over in the dark and shes dragging her bum on my clean duvet.... why?  Poop stuck and she got a fright because it banged against her legs!    So she prefers to drag it on my bed.

I put on light and yes poop is there with a looooooooong skid mark..... oh my.... 1am and I'm changing sheets!

Well. I got home to a nice poo in the tray. AND madam upchucked her food together with a fairly impressive furball.

So I think we can say she's nearly there or is well again.

She's just enjoyed her dinner so I'm going to shower and go out!!

WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO go Lexy  :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Just catching up Ruth and that's great news about the results  :ok:

Mupps, Rascal, Guinness and Widget send lots of love and headbutts to their Auntie Ruth and send Lexy lots of purrs  :Luv: xxx

Hope you have a lovely night out catch up with you soon xxxxx

I think low thyroxine would be higher than the 50 range. I think if she is 44, she is within normal for hyperactive thyroid so feeling better about that. Vet says she's too young but you can never be sure, she's very relieved herself.

I think you're right about the liver enzyme level but the vet was very specific when she said all animals not just cats. Not really sure to be honest.

As for the man eating hamster do you really think my baby would allow this animal in our house and he would walk out alive... nah me no think so Sherlock!

Great news ruth

The normal reference ranges will be feline specific though (you always have to enter the species when doing the bloods in house or sending away)  However she was slightly dehydrated which means very slightly above normal would be expected.

Thyroid level better than perfect. Normal level starts at 50. Lexy's is 44!
Does that mean her thyroxine levels are very slightly low then ??? I have no experience with a hypoT cat as its so rare so i dont know what the "average" levels for them would be.

I think you need elaine to send you the man eating hamster to chase lexy around the house  :evillaugh:

Methinks Madam Lexy is working hard at providing you with a distraction.

It sounds rather like it.  Hope she returns to normal soon, Ruth.

Dont panic too much at present her tummy will be fairly empty because she hasn`t been eating much until now; would be wise to use the lactulose tonight though.

:-: Well she hasn't gone to the toilet (apart from a pee) in 36 hours. Again.   >:(

Tonight when I get home, if she still hasn't she will get some lactulose again. I think the heat is getting to her so she's not eating much during the day, but she is eating at night so I'm not worried about her eating. Maybe she'll lose some weight, but jsut need her to get going again consistently.

Just got off phone with vet.

Great news.

Thyroid level better than perfect. Normal level starts at 50. Lexy's is 44!

Bloods. Liver enzyme slightly elevated above normal level but vet says normal level is for ALL animals so considering how great all her bloods are she's not worried.

Seems my baby is just a porker

So we're moving off JWB light to RC Obesity (oh the indignity...)

So to get her back to 4kgs we will try her on that with some pouch food to supplement a couple times a week.

But my baby is fine. Kidneys are brilliant. She healty as can be so I am so grateful to whoever is looking after her up there!!

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes. Xxx

We've managed to control it so she's not putting on any more, but even with her  not eating much she still weighed a consistent 4.73. Since April she put on nearly 400g which is a lot for her, she is quite a small boned cat, so 10% of body weight despite exercising her, feeding her local light dry food and only wet food with low fat content, she still put on.

Vet does not think its her thyroid but she thinks that if Lexy is one of the rare ones better to catch it now before it gets progressively worse. I'm just dreading the phone call. If its all clear then  I know we have to revisit the food she eats which will be a battle. She is not fond of Hills so r/d is going to be an issue and she refuses to eat pate type food.

Just can't afford to be spending heaps on new food when I have a cupboard full of her current food.

yes sounds about right.

i was just trying to think what happened with a series of consults and bloods we did on sebast a few years back (at my now vet where after i gave up work..so i was a normal "punter"  :evillaugh: )

He had mega appetitie and lost masses of weight (went down to about 6.5 kgs from his then normal 9.5 !!! and that was starving all day and gobbling on average 4 big cans of food)

We never got a proper diagnosis altho liver showed slight abnormalities (if i remember rightly very unusual abnormalitites) anyway he came right again so goodness knows what that was, petplan paid out ok though.

Yep vet asked me to do it. Once I get form in I just fill it out and send to vet to complete, stamp etc. By that time we'll have the bloods back. It just means that if we have ongoing treatment then I have the forms ready to go. They take up to 6 weeks to process the claim so the sooner better than later

i think putting in claims for unfinished treatment/diagnostics with no difinitive diagnosis is abit tricky ruth..I'm sure the vet will help you (dont vets or atleast nominated person from the surgery etc have to fill out the medical portion of the claim ?)  Perhaps its changed now.

Well she woke me up this morning and came to lie by me so I can only assume she's on the path to recovery. Her blood/urine tests are back today so I'm a little anxious but hopefully her getting back to normal is a good sign.

Just had to ask for a claim form from insurer today.... This was the conversation, after I gave out all my details:

"how many I help you?"

"Not sure what's wrong, we're trying to rule out hypo thyroidism, so have had to have blood/urine analysis ordered to see why she's not losing any weight and gaining slighly despite a strict diet. In the meantime have paid out £360 in fees to pay for these so need a claim form to start claiming what I've paid out."

This is the answer:

"Ok. what's wrong with her?"

"I just told you, we have blood tests pending to tell us that"

"when did the condition arise?"

"Its been progressive, weight gain over the last two months, vet first saw her for this early May"

"But when did the vet first see her then"

"I just said: early May"

"But what did the vet see her for?"

"Her excessive weight gain"

"I see. I'll send you a form, pls fill out.. blah blah blah"

Is it a wonder I'm a wreck?

this is from madam:
"To all my aunties and uncles thank you for asking how I feel. The humongous poo left mummy reeling but I was much chirpier after relieving myself. Now that I have I will try to be more regular. AFter all, Aunty Lynn is right.. who wants the world to know of my movements!!"
