Cats are just too clever

I am so pleased his eye is improving  ;D

I have something simular with Misa the one with tangles at bottom of back!  He only gets his treats now if he lets me have a go at his tangles and by the third time he learnt two things.........if I touch a tangle he gets a treat.......not any more he needs to let me do something!

and

the more times he lies still and lets me do something the more treats he gets..........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Doc has now learnt that when we wrap him up in a towel, he is going to get something put in his eye.. which = wriggling.

He has also learnt that getting something in the eye = fuss and treats, so hopefully it all evens out!

Although, we dont want to end up with a cured eye, but a fat cat!  :evillaugh:

She said to go back if we were still concerned about it, but that it looks like its just a bit of irritation and should get better - it actually looks a bit better already  :)

 :thanks: for asking

The vet praised us for bringing him in cause we were worried, she said that alot of people only bother when the eye is really bad and nothing can be done for it - it made me a bit sad that we were classed as good owners just for being concerned about him, when it was obviously something sore  :(

Glad Doc's eye is ok, and that he was such a good boy at the vets  ;D

Do you need to go back for a follow-up after 5 days or are they happy with him?

Doc has a nick in his ear too, battle scars maybe? He only got neutered at 2½ (before i got him) so he must've been a prowler!

Sammy was neutered at 6 months but it didn't make a huge difference... :sigh: he still gets in fights...at his age!

Awwww kitty is defying middle-age!   ;)

Doc had his trip to the vets - meowed the whole 2 minute car journey, and in the waiting room, then got distracted by 3 scottie dogs and was staring entranced at them

Anyway, the vet gave him some solution to check the surface of the eye and said it isnt damaged, he probably just got some dust in there - she gave him a painkiller injection and the fucithalmic cream I have to put in for 5 days  :) he was a good boy and was purring and paddling  ;D he seems a bit sleepy now but hes had a few treats and I just hope the cream works.

The receptionist told him he had a nice collar  :play:

£35 altogether and they took my cheque!  :)

Good luck at the vets.

Sammy ripped his inner eyelid last year (he refuses to retire from active duty) and the vet didn't stitch it or trim it, just gave us some cream and the dreaded antibiotics for a couple of days. By the time his tummy had recovered from the antibiotics, his eye was all healed. He still looks a bit funny as the inner eyelid won't fully open but it kind of goes with his wonky mouth and ripped ears and doesn't give him any problems.  :innocent:

I'll let you know what the vet says tonight, thanks for all your help and support  ;D  :thanks:

I'm sure its a similar name to the stuff I had for conjunctivitis. It has fusidic acid in and works really quickly. Hope it's that straightforward for him  :Luv:

The receptionist asked me if she could take a name, felt a bit stupid saying "mine or my cats?"  :-:

Dawn, one thing to remember is that unless you go with no excess on your insurance, it wont make any difference anyway. And unless you have a nice vet, you will have to find the money upfront. Good luck with him, and with regards to the cheque - ring the receptionists when they open.

What did the vet say when you  went lisa??

I have drawn a rubbish picture of the difference between his eyes as he wont let me take a close up pic (squirmy!) and in the slightly far away pics his eyes look normal (one a little shut)

Excuse my paint skills but I have to post this before everyone gets into work cause I can only take sneaky looks online after!

On his right eye (the OK one) the inner eyelid bit (not sure what its officially called - the extra eyelid cats seem to have) has a brown edge on it, which is between the inner eyelid and the actual eye itself, it outlines the eyelid perfectly.

On the left eye the brown edging seems to be torn a slight bit at the bottom (I am guessing through a rough and tumble with Cheese but he is a bit of a clumsy cat who doesnt look before he leaps so he may have hit his eye on something when I was at work on Wed)

He wont let me look at it much though  :( I'm just wondering if the vet might let me pay with a cheque as I will have money a week today.

Helen - thanks for the info, I couldnt remember that even though I did sign up M&S online, I think its cause I did it when I had money so I didnt notice that I could do that! I will sign him up today (I thought it was four weeks you had to wait before you could claim?) when I get home as I will need my bank details etc wont i.

With the insurance you could set it up now and ask for the payment date to be whatever suits you so you don't pay the instalment until whatever day you have chosen.  That way the 14 day period where he's not covered starts from now.  The boys are now out of the 14 day period so I'm not quite so paranoid about every little thing like I was in the 2 weeks when they wouldn't have been covered!  I did mine online with M & S and you definitely get to choose what date the direct debit comes out.

Hope Doc's eye is better tomorrow

 :thanks: for the advice everyone.

If it still looks sore when I get in, I will give him some optrex - we have been cleaning it with cotton wool cause he had a bit of gunk/water around it this morning from sleeping with a watery eye.

We are going to get him insured when we get paid at the end of the month - I know its bad and we should have done it sooner! will probably go with M&S like Cheese and Gerti.  8)

I tried looking at it this morning and all he was interested in was fuss! he was paddling on the kitchen top purring his little head off when I was trying to hold the eye open  :Luv:

It more than likely hes just knocked while looning around, especially if the discharge is clear. I would just bathe it and monitor. Milly did this a few weeks back, she squinted for 24 hrs and was then fine, the perils of rough and tumble  :innocent:

I put off insuring simon straight away, while i compared and read terms of different companies, he started having problems with his mouth which now isnt covered   >:(  do it quick!

Optrex is fine to use on cats (the vet said so) -  as Willow has allergic conjunctivitis  I have to bathe her eyes when it gets bad (horrible brown gunk  )

Forgot to say, it might be a good idea to bathe his eye area in cooled boiled water with some cotton wool, especially if its at all gunky.

I would see how it goes today Dawn, and if its still like it tomorrow ring the vets.

Max had the same thing a few weeks ago, watery eye and keeping it closed, its only when he did open his eye and looked up that we noticed a red blob on his eyeball that made us take him down to the vet the same day.

If its just watery and there's no trauma to the eyeball, I would monitor and see if he starts opening the eye normally, as he may just have something in it.  I know how much my eyes water if I've got anything on my contact lenses, so even a minor irritation can cause a lot of watering.

As long as it isn't bothering him too much, I would just see how it goes today. Last week, one of Kylies eyes was watering and she kept blinking. by the next day, it was normal.

Doc has a sore eye!
Last night I noticed that Doc's left eye was all watery and he was closing it over a bit - I tried to get a look in there by holding it open but I couldnt see anything stuck in it - I dont know if maybe he just got it hurt in a fight with Cheese or something (they are always messing around) but we cleaned it up and left it til this morning to see if its improved.

It is still a bit sore looking, but not as bad, I'm not sure what to do with him?

I don't mean to sound insensitive but it would be the one cat we havent got round to insuring yet  :( definitely cant afford vets, cant really afford anything at all until payday which is a week this friday, petrol for work is even a bit of a stretch (sorry Ela if you read this! :shy:)

Any advice?  :'(
