Title: Potential 3rd Cat!! (picture!)
Post by: Cheesecat on February 08, 2007, 07:54:06 AM
Ever since we got Gerti I felt guilty that we left her brother behind in the foster house. I have been on at my bf about it for a while and he said he really wants him too but wanted to make sure Gerti and Cheese got on well first (which they do!)

Doc is Gerti's brother:
http://www.ccg.triadian.streamlinetrial.co.uk/album_comment.php?pic_id=92&sid=7e20dbd78e4bd52f5bf702fbef35439a

He is currently being fostered by Fiona for Coventry Cat Group - the only problem is he would have to be an indoor cat and I am not sure if he currently goes outside or not (Gerti didnt) My bf says if he is an indoor cat he MIGHT just let me get him. We are in Coventry on Sunday so I am hoping hoping hoping!

Just had to post as I am v excited about potential 3rd kitty :)
(Family are going to think I am crazy!!!)

I am going to send the fosterer an email now - fingers crossed please!!!!  ;D

Ooh, how exciting!  Did Gerti and Doc get on well when they lived together? Tiggy was never really overly fussed by her brother so just because they're related doesn't necessarily mean they will get on.

If they did get on and you think that Cheese will take to him then I say go for it!  Can you imagine how Doc will feel if he gets taken to a lovely new forever home and finds his sister there too - sorry I'm getting carried away!

BTW, I couldn't view that pic it said 'not authorised'  He's the 3rd one down on ths link for other people to see  ;D  http://www.ccg.triadian.streamlinetrial.co.uk/album_cat.php?cat_id=3

Ah, oops! Changed the link on my post now too :)

They sound as if they have the same temprament from the description so I thought that they might get on. Gerti is a verrry laid back and caring kind of cat  ;D she tries to be "mum" to cheese alot which cheese mostly tolerates

I thought that too - I would hope that they would be really excited to be reunited! they would recognise each other from smell wouldnt they?

Desley - I am not sure if he would go for any others, I have just about managed to convince him on the grounds that Doc is pretty much already family  we'll see though  ;D

Could you not give the fosterer a ring?! I'm so impatient and weirdly excited seeing as it's not my cat!

Post by: Cheesecat on February 08, 2007, 12:51:38 PM
I didnt really think of that

Funnily enough I just remembered I have Gerti's adoption certificate in my diary, with number and fiona's email on (it was her husband I emailed before!)

I am just off my lunch and can't really make phone calls (unless I sneak off somewhere and use mobile.. which is currently charging  :innocent: lol) I have copied the email to Fiona and if I dont get a reply before 4pm I will ring as soon as I get home!

I am excited too though, I keep looking at his little picture!!  ;D I will be saddened if he is a "must go outdoors" cat :( I think that is another reason I haven't rang.. I don't want my hopes shattered over the phone!

I have emailed the two fosterers (couple) email addresses twice (the second time to give them my personal email for after 4pm)

so I now feel like I am hassling them!!! I don't know if I should call?

Especially as a silly woman I had to call for work this morning shouted at me on the phone (horrid horrid woman! she didnt even know me!)  :(

Hi Dawn

As you know I foster for them but I don't have Fiona's number. Maybe Angie can help, I know she is really busy at work but I'm sure she wouldn't mind if it means Doc might get a wonderful forever home  ;)

I am still waiting for a foster to come in as I can only take one cat.

Let us know how you get on  :ok:

Hi Ellie  ;D

I got Fiona's email off Angie yesterday - I have her number off Gerti's adoption form too, I just need to wait for my work break to call today!

I just felt a bit of a hassler yesterday and then couldnt call last night as it was too late when I got in, so todays the day!

 :)

NO you are not a hassler

I have everything crossed that you get through today  :luck:

What times your break?!  Don't feel like your hassling her 'cos your not, before CC and now Purrs I hardly ever used to check my emails, now that my computer is on a lot more than it used to be I check them much more regularly, seeing as she's not a Purrs addict she probably hasn't even seen your mail yet!

Keep us posted  ;D

My break is 12pm but I might try and get out for 5 min and call her soon as I am dying to know.. the office is a bit dead today anyway!

I'll let you know as soon as I do!  ;D

Post by: Cheesecat on February 09, 2007, 10:39:33 AM
I spoke to Fiona, she did get my email yesterday and said that Doc does go outdoors but not very often and she does not think he would be fussed either way and so could possibly be an indoor cat  ;D

She said that when Gerti left he got a bit funny with the other cats but he has settled down alot now - she said she is not sure if he would remember her though, which made me feel a bit sad :(

We can go visit him Sunday evening though and see how we feel about adoption. We are in Coventry at the weekend anyway so it makes sense.

Not sure whether to be excited or not!

Hi Dawn

Glad you got through and I'm sure things will be fine  ;)

I think you will know as soon as you meet Doc wether he will be right for you and family. I don't know if he will remember Gerti or not but the fact he gets on with other cats is a bonus  ;D

I am sending you lots of  and I am excited for you  :evillaugh:
Title: Re: Potential 3rd Cat!!
Post by: Cheesecat on February 09, 2007, 11:39:25 AM
Thanks Ellie!

I text my bf and he replied saying he would love us to see Doc on Sunday  ;D

He asked me if he was neutered and thats the one thing I forgot to ask! Surely he would be by now? I don't think he was when we got Gerti as she had not been spayed and was pregnant when we took her to vets  :(

Excited though!
I have written "cat basket" on my list of things to take away with us at the weekend just in case  :ahh:

YAAAAAAAAAY I am sooooooo excited now

I would like to think he has been neutered and would be very shocked if he wasn't

I'm getting broody for a third cat now  :evillaugh: hubby has said that if we get a foster that has to be a indoor cat AND it got on with Mupps and Rascal we could  :wow:

Me, Mupps and Rascal have everything crossed for Sunday

Ooh, I'm really excited for you!  I know that cats remember people after time apart, so hopefully Doc and Gerti will remember each other if you do decide to give him a home  ;D

How long had Gerti been with the fosterer when you got her?  It might have been that she hadn't been there long so had not been booked in to be spayed yet.  I'd hope that Doc is neutered as if he's not and he's been going out you will be responsible for all the CSA claims that come flooding in in a few years time  :evillaugh:

Helen, I was waiting for you to see this thread as I you seemed as excited as me yesterday!

I hope he is neutered too as otherwise he is potential daddy to alot of kittens!!  :-[

Gerti had been there nearly 2 months when we got her but she was with her kittens so maybe they didnt want to seperate her or cause her more stress?

Ellie, thats exciting :) I love the feeling of being on the hunt for another addition to the family (I loved going through the catchat listings when we were looking for Cat number 2, which ended up being Gerti!)

I'm going to call Fiona again now actually.. she will be sick of me!!! haha

Hellooooo  ;D

Well we brought home a little purring man last night - he was soooo vocal all the way home, I felt so guilty!
He is currently in the big bedroom as he can't meet Cheese and Gerti just yet.. he meows so sadly when you leave though:( this morning Cheese was outside his door and every time he meowed she did a "brr?"

I tried to go in there to get my clothes and he was purr purr purr all around my legs and he paddles EVERYTHING when he purrs.. lol just keeps paddling the floor, or mid-air..  ;D

I hope he is happy with us, I think he is just confused because he has gone from a house full of cats and hustle and bustle to our quiet room.

Good news anyway  :)

We tried taking pics last night but he will not stay still got 5 mins! rubbing around your legs, jumping up at your hands and general wriggling

My bf is trying to take some to email me today so I can post them!

Something funny I forgot to say is that when he is purring, and does a head shake, he makes a funny noise like a jibba-jabba toy (remember those?)

Phil just emailed me with the only decent pic he has been able to take all day (and he takes ALOT of cat pics!)

Here is our little man :)

Apparently he let Doc out into the rest of the house because he is dying to explore (and not at all scared or anxious, just wants to see EVERYTHING lol) and we have folding doors so he could peep at Cheese and they were making noises at each other  :) Cheese is following him around apparently but Gerti has decided she will spit at him!  :'(

You can see his claws out in the pic as he is constantly paddling! he paddles the laminate floor, the carpet, our legs... lol if he is purring, he is paddling!

Heylo for people who dont know me i'm Dawns partner Phil  :)

Im currently taking five mins from the purring paddling puss that is Doc

Hes got himself all cosy under the throw we have on the couch  :innocent:

Our resident kitties are in our bedroom sleeping at the moment.

Cheese was following Doc around but it seems has seen enough and has gone for a nap lol.

There has been hissing and funny internal noises but no fighting which is gooooood!

Cheese actually meowed at Doc before rather than hiss but i think it was cos he was a safe distance away once he gets close she hisses and runs off lol

So all in all everything is going well. Gerti will hopefully reconise doc soon and Cheese will come round to him eventually, she was just like this with gerti too and now theyre best friends (most of the time) :)

Hello  ;D

Doc (affectionately nicknamed 'little man' and 'tom tom') is settling in well. I have been meaning to post an update and I was just thinking I could do it now but I have forgotten to bring my phone cable in to put the pictures onto computer :(

He is settling in well though, you would never believe he was the new cat. The day after we got him, he was curled up on the couch and I got out the (dreaded) mop and brush and did the whole room (Cheese and Gerti had long pegged it) and he opened one eye, decided it didnt look very interesting at all and fell back asleep! I even totally moved the sofa he was on and he didnt bat an eyelid!

When Phils family came on Monday, Gerti and Cheese run off and hide at first until curiosity gets the better of them, but mr confident goes right over to them for a fuss!

He is also a mischief maker, Phil normally makes his lunch the day before and leaves it out but now has to put it in the fridge as "someone" keeps nibbling through the bag and his sandwiches!!! He has the most vocal meow I have ever heard (sometimes just sounds like someone saying miaow not very cat like.. ) I also swear he nearly said mum this morning  :-:

Gerti and Cheese hissed at him at first and were curious but scared (would run at him and then run away) but they are fine now. We caught Doc washing Gerti on the head and they will all curl up with us on the sofa now and play "foil ball" together  :) still a bit apprehensive but no hissing, just alot of sniffing and patting on the head!

He is VERY bossy and pushy and sometimes wants a fuss RIGHT NOW and does the saddest meow if you arent listening enough.. lol he jumped onto the mantelpiece when I was trying to get ready this morning as I was looking at that and not him!

I will post pictures when I get home  ;D

LOL, Dawn LExy does the exact same thing. I always think I've done something wrong because her miaow is soo sad!!  Which is why she's so spoiled!

So happy Doc has settled in well, what a wonderful story and I bet you're so happy you made the choice for a third  furbabe!

I know its so hard to resist! Usually ends up with me going "ohhh little man!" and then giving him some fuss, which will just make him worse but I cant resist! Its when he does the mouth-hardly-open complaining miaow that I just melt. He knows how to manipulate me already!

Am so glad we got him now, he is lovely and hasn't missed going outside.  ;D Clare- I will post pics later I promise! me and Phil have taken so many of him,  :Luv:

Vet said he is overweight at 5.6kgs  :( but he was neutered late so is quite stocky anyway. He and Gerti will have to go on a diet! I don't know if they make low calorie cat food? lol little waif Cheese can carry on with JWB though  :)

Max weighed in at 5.6kg last year as well, he doesn't look fat though as he's a stocky boy as well.  I've been reducing his dry food intake, he used to be able to free feed on that all day, but now he has a little in the morning to keep his teeth good, and when its gone its gone, despite many pitying looks at the empty bowl
Title: Re: Potential 3rd Cat!! (picture!)
Post by: Cheesecat on February 21, 2007, 11:48:30 AM
Aww and I bet poor hard done-by Max lets you know his feelings on that one?

Mine used to be able to free-feed on dry too, but Cheese didn't get a look in once Gerti joined us as Gerti just munches EVERYTHING (earning herself the name Gerti "two dinners" and also a little tub tub tummy)

Now they are fed in the morning and when I get in from work (and all 3 are circling the dishes by then!) and they are just fed on dry. They get wet food sometimes as a treat, but it tends to be the junky wet food, we need to look into getting some wet food that is good for them as a treat!

I feel bad though when they keep licking the empty bowl!

Well done for taking Doc on and I'm glad he is doing so well.
ONe down and many to go - I think we specialise in fat cats! :-[

JWB also do a senior light in duck or turkey.
I had to put mine all on it as they already have a small dog flap and I didn't want to hace to upgrade to a mediun dog flap!

 that would probably work, as the smell makes me sick so I definitely would not want to try the taste

I say that to Gerti too, 'we're both on a diet together' - and she just purrs up at me with big green eyes and I feel terrible! Its for her own good though!

Angie - as they are brother and sister maybe it runs in the family?  ;D I will try them on senior JWB and Cheese can have normal as she is so small! I think I just enjoy buying treats too much  :innocent:

I know the feeling. In my old flat, there was a dog flap so kylie had no problems but here its a regular catflap. She gets 1/2 way through then you see her back legs lift off the ground then she wiggles through - it's funny but sad to watch - so undignified. we decided that the back door is cheap and not good security so we are getting a new door and will have a bigger flap - maybe one that opens with microchip (I invented this about 5 years ago but somebody beat me to the copyright! - honestly - I have been telling anyone that will listen about this idea for years!!)

Am so glad that they are all getting on so well - dry food doesn't always help them lose weight though, you would be best putting them on mainly wet food with dry as a treat, and try the Senior/Light JWB for treats, they actually do senior in all of the 4 flavours. PAH also do light cat treats, I got some at weekend.

I got some of the PAH food as it was on offer, buy one get one half price - got a normal one for Cheese and a light one for Gerti and Doc. They also have some de-furrum as Cheese coughed up a hairball for the first time the other day

As promised, here are some pictures of 'little man' including his new hiding place (No idea how he gets up there!!  )

How can all black cats look so different? He has such good natured, relaxed eyes!

"We caught Doc washing Gerti on the head".  How fabulous.

Doc is gorgeous - so pleased you decided to home him too and that they are all getting on together.

Heylo

Heres some pictures of our gorgeous boy! Doc  8)

First one is Doc relaxing on the couch with meowmy and dad lol You can't not pet him when his eyes are like that hehe

The second is of the cheeky butter attempting to get down from his hiding place on top of the wardrobe (still not sure how on earth he gets up there)

The 3rd is one i forgot to put on here when Doc had first arrived. Its Cheese hiding in their cat tree's tunnel (she NEVER uses this tunnel) so she can watch new cat explore the kitchen.  :shify:

We do have ALOT more pictures on our phones (more cat pics than of us  ) so more shall be posted soon  :)

xx

So glad he's settled. I just had a mad panic as I've moved him into the homed section on our website and then I see you've posted!

Thanks for taking him, we seem to have quite a few black cats in at the moment. :(

He is very handsome which means he knows he can get away with murder  :sneaky:

he is currently sitting on dads lap getting a big brush and loving it - he wags his tail when he is happy - never known a cat to do that before! It seems to be ALWAYS moving  ;D
