Wait, don't pelt me with rotten tomatoes just yet :evillaugh: I know it's early to mention the Chr*****s word :shoosh: but it's all in a good cause :wow:
For those new to Purrs here's a bit of background... Purrs the forum began very hastily in November 2006 as a result of CatChat having to close it's forum for a time - Tan and her OH, Chappie, got this site up and running within hours. Gill and Tan had been planning a Christmas auction in aid of Ron's rescue at LostCatsBrighton and the small matter of not having a forum to host it wasn't going to stop them :sneaky: And so began the Purrs Annual Christmas Auction (PACA - for short :evillaugh:) in aid of a registered rescue on Purrs. We puts a huge amount of time and effort into the auctions every year to ensure they run like a precision watch and I'm sure this year will be no exception :)
The Purrs Annual Christmas Auction (PACA :evillaugh:) has gone from strength to strength, despite these tough times we find ourselves in, and we really will have a hard job beating previous years amazing totals
The 2006 auction raised for Ron's Lost cast Brighton Rescue
£1656.50
The 2007 auction raised for Lesley's Eight Lives Left Cat & Kitten Rescue
GRAND TOTAL THIS YEAR IS £1836.35
2008 auction raised for Paws Inn rescue.
TOTAL 2099
2009 auction raised for for Sunny Harbour rescue.
TOTAL 2100
2010 auction raised for Lost cat Brighton rescue
TOTAL 1800
2011 auction raised for Coventry Cat rescue
TOTAL 1832
2012 auction raised for Paws Inn Cat Rescue
TOTAL 2683
This year will be in aid of FERAL AND STRAY FOUNDATION run by our member on Purrs Marleymoo (aka Liz). Find out about their wonderful work helping Stray cats here - http://www.feralandstrayfoundation.co.uk/ (http://www.feralandstrayfoundation.co.uk/)
Now, more specific info will be posted closer to the time but basically it works like this:
If you have anything in your home that is postable, that you think another Purrs member would like, and more importantly would be prepared to bid on and pay for then it can go in the auction :wow:
The person who is donating the item (the auctioneer) also pays the postage to send the item directly to the winning bidder.
We've had some fantastic items donated over the years and absolutely everything is gratefully received - even down to a single teeny tiny mousey toy :)
Bidding can be fierce at times so this is not for the faint hearted :naughty:
Here's just a few examples of the many (over 170) items in last years 2012 auction - everything from super cool cat toys, beds, books, luxury cards, mugs -
Along with fantastic items donated by our wonderful auctions sponsors like Simons cat etc
http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/board,137.0.html (http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/board,137.0.html)
Specific details and how things work will be announced closer to the time but the auction will begin on 17th November 2013 and will run for two weeks to 1st Dec , so plenty of time to get the items in the post and to their new homes before Christmas.
That gives us all plenty of time to get together some bits and bobs to pop in the auction and to wrestle with ourselves about things we want to keep but know should go in the auction :naughty:
Phew.... Any questions, thoughts, comments then chat away here :) :wow:

The Mugs are mine :evillaugh: It will handbags and grit boxes at dawn

The Mugs are mine :evillaugh: It will handbags and grit boxes at dawn
Now why did I expect you to say that Liz :innocent: :evillaugh:
;D ;D Fantastic cause, I love my ferals dearly, and for all those ferals out there and their rescuers :yesss:
-
Don't worry Liz, we have enough mugs now so I won't be bidding on mugs this year. You can relax your bidding finger for once
:sneaky:
-
You can never have enough Mugs :evillaugh:
-
OMG mug wars has started already ... I don't want to cast aspersions but me thinks Rosella may not be telling the truth!
-
Looking foward to the auction, one of last years wins gets used every single day, the Faux Snow Lynx pet throw. Little Ollie is on it right now, looking very cute. :Luv2:
-
Hi all!
Yay! I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo excited!! I have some items I would like to donate to the auction. Please forgive me if I'm being stupid (crazy busy as usual!) but how do I go about listing the items? Is there a page I'm missing?! I have cards and gifts and prints... lots of easily postable bits.
I'm almost weeing myself with excitement - and thank you SO much for for picking the foundation - it really is pretty awesome and unbelievable!

I'm also a serial auction bandit. :sneaky: Liz, (FSF)
All will become clear as to how it works, Tan always posts a thread with full instructions, I suspect this may become it?? then the auction itself has it's own Thread, and each item gets it's very own Topic within that Thread.
If you have an item to include, you just start a fresh Topic in the Auction Thread , with a starting bid if you like, and watch it go.... :wow: . If you see a mug item you fancy, just hit the "reply" button on that thread and make your bid, then you will get a notification each time someone outbids you right up until the last minute of the auction, so beware there is no "buy it now" option and everyone stands to be outbid at the last knockings. :duel: :boxer: :bum: :white flag:
You just need to make sure you know what you're getting into, as things have changed slightly this year as to how postage is accounted for, in that the donor will be responsible for paying postage. This may affect your decisions on what to offer for "sale". :-: Moderator will correct me if I've got this wrong but that's my understanding of it. :)
Someone, Sam I think, :thanks: posted a link to "My Hermes" courier firm, and they do seem to have very desirable rates in comparison to Royal Mail, so worth checking out their terms and conditions. :shify: :read 1:
I've got a dozen or so pieces I've been collecting over the year, and will be plopping them into the auction over several days to freshen things up and keep the bidding alive. ;) I know Sam has been very busy co-Ercing businesses and sponsors into donating all sorts of valuable gear so it already looks like being a tremendous success, need to drum up some excitement to get those purses flapping so do share with anyone who may be interested. ;D
Auction starts on 17th November, you can start placing your items from that date. :-:
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas, and happy bidding. ;) but the mugs are mine :naughty:
-
Sheila is right , there will be posts of instructions at every point ;D
There will be threads to ask stupid questions and you will need pics to post for items you are auctioneering and a selling spiel :evillaugh:
All this will start to happen over the next month before the madness begins :innocent:
Yes this year only the auctioneers pay the postage which stops sadly the nice amount we used to add at the end but hopefully bids will be bigger and of course any amount extra can be added to your bill at the end if you want :shify: :shify:
We usually also have a couple of non-biding threads that bring in loads but dont think we can do name a cat and feed a cat this year , as this is all ferals but correct me if I am wrong Liz please.
If you can think of any alternative threads for people to donate............with pics...........please let me know.
-
Thanks Gill ;D
How about a "Sponsor a microchip" thread Liz. All chipped cats get named don't they? People could name their chip which would then transfer to the cat???
Or even sponsor a Christmas Castration? How about Santa's Special Spay Ride? :yesss:
-
There was another thought, Liz can you post links to your websites or Purrs threads, so folk can easily read up on your work? A bit of awareness may help with stirring up the excitement! ;)
Ooh ooh I know, can we have a signature footer, please, with FSF s website included in it please? Somebody (Helen?) knows how to do these so we lazy peeps can steal. Hmmmm? :sneaky:
-
Looking foward to the auction, one of last years wins gets used every single day, the Faux Snow Lynx pet throw. Little Ollie is on it right now, looking very cute. :Luv2:
Oh that's a shame ... was hoping your gang were going to hate it and that you were going to re-auction it this year ;)
-
Those are great ideas Sheila, thanks ;D
-
I'm on with the banner etc now (well, when I suss how to do it :-:)
Ooooh, I LOVE the idea of a Christmas Castrate, a Santa's Spay or a Mistletoe Microchip!!! That's a fab idea!
All excited again!!

Aarrrgh! How on earth do I add a banner to the bottom of my posts? I've changed my avatar thingy, but can't see where ot add a larger banner!
Help! I'm not usually this useless!!
-
click profile ... forum profile ... look and layout. Amend signature
-
Hmmm, I don't have anything about signature under the look & layout section. I've found the field where you can add a signature, but this is text only. Am I wrong in thinking I can have a banner in that field? Sorry!
I'll keep looking through stuff!
Thanks!

I cannot believe the auction is so close... weeing myself a little with excitement!!
Sorry I haven't been on the forum for a while, just so manic rehoming cats, working through neutering clinic stuff etc and helping out with cats in other areas. Never a dull or sane moment!!
We would like to donate some prints that my other half painted. A brand new limited edition print titled 'A Fish Out Of Water', and also a couple of the open edition prints, choice to be the winner's. I'm assuming the listings go on nearer the time? Here's a link for anyone wanting to have a look what's on offer... http://vicbearcroft.co.uk/cats.html
Can't wait!!
