Does anyoe have any info or tips they can share for rearing a kitten with a hair lip?
We've just had arrive a 1 day old kitten and any tips would be appreciated. thanks guys

I think one of philips raggie kittens had this and unfortunately didn't make it, what has the vet said is there anything they can do?

She was seen by a vet this morning whose answer was to let nature take its course or just euthanise her (not our vet) thats how we have ended up with her and are going to syringe feed her etc whatever is needed to give her a chance.
have got a feed into her already just looking for any tips from anyone with experience.

if i remember philip wasn't able to syringe feed his kitten easily and it passed on quite quickly, maybe if this little one is taking food it might be ok - I don't have any experience myself and imagine it will be hard and emotional but very best of luck :hug:

In humans a hair lip is usually accompanied by a cleft pallet which if its the same with cats then this would be why they couldnt be syringe fed.

Skye as she has been named doesn't appear to have a cleft palette as you would expect however she is missing the whole top lip and has a split tongue.

if she is feeding she has a chance, but with the mouth deformities they can have trouble suckling, making feeding very difficult. vets may be able to operate on her but really they either wont need too (she can feed normally despite the hairlip) or she will not survive long enough to be big enough for them to perform the surgery.
very good luck. i have not experience with hand rearing them myself. the last kitten with a hair-lip we had had an extreme cleft palate and couldn't feed properly so only lived for a few days.
A friend of mine has an adult kitty with a hair-lip so its not impossible that she can survive :hug:

I think the the rescue is too devasted to post but sadly little Skye went to the Bridge in her sleep a couple of days ago :'( :'(

Hi guys, really sorry not been back on about little Skye. We were gutted to lose her after a day. We had managed to get her feeding well but she slipped away in her sleep. Most peaceful way she could have possibly gone but we were all gutted as we really fell for her as she battled so hard to keep going.
It simply wasn't meant to be. :(
