The way i did it for my lot with M&S (as i didnt want to phone them) was to insure 1 and wait for paperwork. I then had a reference code to enter in to get the discount.

In theory insuring direct with AXA should be cheaper than with companys who they underwrite.

£6000 isn't a lot really if it's per incident/condition. It's very easy to run up vets bills of thousands of pounds if you have to see a specialist. An MRI scan, for example, will set you back about £2000, if not more. When my Magpie died a couple of years ago the vets bill was over £2000 and he was only there for 5 hours! If he'd survived that night and needed further treatment it would have run into several thousands.

If your cat develops diabetes, kidney disease or something like that, s/he will have it for life and the costs will mount up. The policies that pay out per condition will stop paying out (and I think a lot of them still have a max time limit eg one year) and you will have to fund the treatment for the rest of your cat's life out of your own pocket. When you have cover for life and a maximum amount per year, that amount is re-set every year so they would give you the £6000 or £4000 or whatever each year for as long as your pet had the condition.

I have never had to make a cliam and kitty has never had go to the vets other than for a vaccination and flea treatment,
She has no illnesses,

I searched the internet before i insured her and i thought that £6000 per incident was allot as i dont really understand it all.

The questions are basic:

Do your cats have any pre-existing conditions, new companies will exclude these maybe
Have they had something that they have been treated for, a new company may exclude this as well
Can you afford much higher premiums..............Misa is the youngest of my cats and his policy went up from £5+ to over £10 this year.
How much is the excess
Do they cover necessary dental treatment that affects health

As said below its best to have an amount per year rather than per condition and M&S is currently £7000 and also one who pays out without too much hassle.
I believe that AXA who underwrite M&S and Sainsburys also have same amount as M&S. Sainsburys are £6500 per condition, so not so good. All their excess are similiar I think and are age related for a set amount plus a %age of amounts over ceratin figures.

Its not good to keep changing companies cos each time you will have a waiti g period before the new one starts............usuallyt 14 days.

You need to go online and get quotes from as many as possible and then compare what they are offering and how much you can afford.

Its best to change when the cats are younger but I changed just over a year ago from Sainsburies to Marks cos M&S were offering such a good deal at that time and my cats were 4, 8 and two pedigrees at 13yrs. The latter twos insurance went up by £10 each this year and they were already twice as much as the others!

My vet does not mind I can either pay the bill and then Argos pays me or the vet will send it off and Argos pays him. I have to pay a £50 excess per incident. I suppose it depends on what your vet is willing to do.

Im with Argos and have been really pleased so far. I pay just under £4 a month and are covered for £1000 per incident. Archie ran up a bill of over £700 with his tail amputations and then over £300 with his eye injury qwithin 6 months They paid out without any problems. Alison

I think that the main thing to look for is that the cover is for at least £4000 (so you are more than covered than that) for the lifetime of the illness and not for the first 12 months only. Does that make sense?

I looked recently and got a couple of quotes and went with tesco as they were the cheapest, and also as I have 3 cats as you get a discount per cat

I can't afford any of the others as they quote much higher prices for London

the platnum policy is the following:
£6000 per incident
£1000 death from accident/illness
£1000 advertising and reward
£1000 boarding fees
£500 accidental damage
£1500 holiday cancellation
£1000 quaritine costs
£1000 expenses cover abroad

it covers consultations, diagnostic tests, Xrays, Surgical procedures, Drugs and medication, Nursing and hospitilisation

As ui dont want to stay with them and there rubbish lol
