Title: please help me save 17 year old felix from being PTS - Staffordshire (Homed)
Post by: victoria1980x on March 11, 2011, 23:32:21 PM
 :scared:
Hi, Can I have some advice/help please, I walk a dog for a old lady in staffordshire on a voluntary basis. The lady is a double amputee and has recently had a stroke and is housebound. To cut a long story short she is going to go into a nursing home in the near future. The dog she has managed to rehome but she also has a 17 year old cat called felix who no one is will to give a home to. Felix is a neutered female who doesnt go out and is happy just to potter around the house and sleep all day, she uses a litter tray and is in good health she can also live with dogs.

If we can't find her a home then she will have to be euthanized I dont want that to happen as she is in this situation through no fault of her own.I really dont know what to do.

Cats protection and other rescues cant help as they are choc a block. Does anyone know anyone or anywhere who can take her I'm willing to transport and cover vet checks or whatever is needed. I'm desperate to save this girl. I have two rescue staffs who dont like cats.

thankyou

look at cat chat rescues. I've been to st francis in derby.

From CC -

ST.FRANCIS HOSPICE FOR CATS
Registered Charity No 1062053
St. Francis Hospice for Cats is not a re-homing centre, but a registered hospice for chronically sick and elderly cats. The Hospice looks after around 80 cats, whilst also caring for a feral colony in the Derby area. They are included here as they are desperately in need of donations and sponsors, to enable them carry on with their invaluable work. You could make a real difference by sending a donation, however small. If you are in the Derby area, perhaps you could lend a hand with a fund-raising event? You can contact the hospice as below.
Shelter Address: 3 Sapperton Close, Littleover, Derby, Derbyshire, DE23 7NX
Tel: 01332 272139

Hi and welcome,

Have you contacted all rescues in the area, do ring round one may be able to help although rescues are full they will prioritise so if you stress how urgent this is, here's  comprehensive list:

http://www.catchat.org/adoption/mids.html

If there's no other family or friends able to take the cat in would it be possible for you to care for the cat, say in 1 room with all her things just temporary until a home can be found?

There are no family or friends down here hence the move to bolton, I will try some of the resuces off the list but am not overly optimistic as am always told the sam ie we've no space etc.
thanks

Put a notice up in all the local vets....
putting that its urgent, with her sad story of having to leave her owner and she is likely to be put to sleep ....hopefully it will tuck at peoples heart strings.

Good Luck xx

Hi, I've now contacted about 7 off the list so will have to keep my fingers crossed however I dont want her to have to go into a rescue where she is kept outside in a pen as I think she would find that very sressfull as she doesnt go out, and she would probably be there forever as understandably maybe people dont want to take on an old cat,

thanks

Not all rescues keep cats in outside pens

Sometimes if cats are going to be stressed at being in a pen then fosters will take them (if they have a fosterer available)

It is sad this I hope that there's a lovely home for Felix out there.

going to a rescue would be better than being pts, atleast a new home can be found from a rescue- there is no coming back from pts! just because she is an older cat does no mean she will not get a home. i have 3 older cats, one who is 10 years old that we took on last nov and the other other 2 are elderly strays, we know they are older than polly but how much older we don't know. i'm sure she will find somewhere. do you have a date for her to find a home by?

Hi,

I have weeks rather than days to sort somewhere but the sooner the better, I know her age doesnt prevent her from being rehomed but it does make it a little harder. But I wont giver up on the old girl yet x

Well neither of us could sit by and let it happen and she is a sweet girl as well. Waiting for her bloods to come back as she could be in renal failure, but even if she is not with us long, it will be a comfortable and spoilt time for her. It is people like Vicky that try to find homes for these little ones and it is her caring enough about Felix that has saved her. All I have done is provide a bed, food and fuss!  :Luv2:
