Needing to move this to more urgent now... My original post is below, but no getting much interest in her, probably as she needs to ideally be only cat. She's chasing and hissing and growling at my lot daily, and I really don't think it's fair on either my ten or her, as she just wants a quiet house as an only cat to sleep and eat and have a fuss. Only health issue is that she's hyperthyroid. Anyone who can help, please let me know. My vet friend had another elderly stray brought in to the branch practice, but she was not allowed to take her to the main practice as the boss' would have seriously told her off and PTS the cat as they've said no stray to be brought in unless they require treatment. She's taken her home to save her, but can't keep her and she's currently staying in a bedroom. I can have her here - she's good with cats/dogs - but I can't take her while I have Edna, as Edna will attack her!
Anyway, original post below...
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help rehome this sweet old lady.
Liz xx
It's with regret that I'll have to find a home for the little oldie I've called Edna...
Edna was taken into the practice when my vet friend works in Nottingham, and was going crazy in the kennel. They were going to put her to sleep when my friend saw her and said she was sure Edna was Hyperthyroid. Turns out her thyroid level was 258!!! The normal range is 10-55, so hers was sky high. She has a very palpable thyroid glad, but was put on Felimazole 5mg twice a day. There may be the option to surgically remove the gland, ***edit: Edna has had the op to remove her thyroid now so does not need daily meds*** providing her bloods were ok for her to have an anaesthetic. Alternatively, she takes her tablets twice daily in her food with no problems, or she could be changed onto Vidalta, which is once a day.
Rather than PTS, I said I'd have her, providing she was felv/fiv negative and got on with other cats. She is clear of disease, was frontlined and wormed, but does not like other cats, hence the reason I don't think it's fair on her or my other 10 cats to keep her. I've had Edna a month now, and hoped that once we settled her thyroid, she'd settle with the other cats, but she hasn't. I have 2 cats that are real softies, and get scared to come upstairs in case she's there, so it's not fair on them, and I think she'd be happier as an only cat without feeling the need to attack and be defensive towards them.
She's about mid-teens plus, and apart from the thyroid problem, is in remarkable health! She moves like there's rocket up her bum, and while she is skinny, is gaining weight slowly. She is a very active girl, but is pretty deaf so she'd need a secure garden or be indoors as she wouldn't hear traffic/dogs etc heading her way. She's perfect in the litter tray too. Eyesight is spot-on - she doesn't miss a trick - and she's very fussy and flirty with me, rubbing around my legs and loving head and neck rubs, but she's not a lap cat. I think she'd really suit a retired person/couple or family without young children who will respect that she's getting on a bit and doesn't want to be pestered, she doesn't like her back-end being touched, so probably slightly arthritic too, but it in no way slows her down!
I took her into the vets where I used to work as a nurse last week and re re-tested her T4 levels. They have dropped dramatically to the low side, so I'm currently tweaking her Felimazone to a 5mg in the morning and a 2.5mg in the evening.
I would have loved to keep her - I always like to have one or two oldies - but she's not settling and I think she'd have a happier retirement with no other cats.
I've posted some photos of her, and she is very pretty! I so, so wish I could keep her
Anyway, anyone who can offer help or a home for this old lady, please let me know. I am based in Newark, Notts.
Thanks in advance,
Liz & Edna xx
Latest update:
Hi everyone,
Apologies not been on to update...
Edna is absolutely fine :Luv: Her wound healed beautifully, and she didn't bother with it once. Tons of her fur's grown back now, and she's bright as a bobbin! She's actually even sweeter with me since the op, too, although the cats still get chased and slapped if she feels like it. But with me she's constantly bumping my shins for fusses and even jumps up onto the chair with me or on the desk, bless her. Her nervous/wary edge had all but disappeared when she's with me, poor girl.
I want to give it one last attempt to find her a home as (ideally) an only cat. She really is a sweetie now with me, and without any other cats to wind her up, I think she'll relax and turn into a dream girl. So if we can put her as cat of the month, or put feelers out for possible adopters, that would be great.
I have another old girl who is very comfortable in the company of other cats who is waiting for a gap to open up here, but if I can't find her a home, I guess Edna'll have to stay put. Just a shame as I think she'll be much happier being a pampered only cat.
Was also thinking of running a local newspaper story about her, so at least I could do a home check etc with it being local, and get a vet history/check done on a possible new owner. What does everyone think of that? I am so manic busy with our business that my time is very tight at the minute.
Thanks everyone, and Edders sends a HUGE whisker-twitching smile! xx

Poor girl :care:
Is she suitable for the thyroid op? If she is I wonder if it's worth trying to fundraise to get the op done as with the best will in the world it's a big ask for someone to take on a cat that already requires twice daily meds. I did it for my cat Tiggy (also hyperthyroid) for 5 years so know what a burden it can be, of course I would do it again in a heartbeat but for someone that doesn't already have the emotional attachment to her it might be the deal breaker
-
Yes, I think she'd be a candidate for the op (the thyroid is large and palpable) providing the pre-anesthetic bloods and heart check are ok.
I discussed this with my vet friend who saved her, and the vet I use who's been testing her bloods/felimazole dose.
I get discount as I used to nurse at the practice I still use, and I know they'll keep the surgery time low for me to keep costs down, so yes, if we could get funds for the op that would be fab. She is due in a week on Monday for a T4 recheck to see what the thyroid levels are, so I can get her to give me a quote. I'll also ask my vet friend, a she works at a branch practice on her own with the nurses, and might be able to 'sneak' the op for me or keep costs way down.
This was one of the two things I thought would go against her being adopted. The other was the fact that she'd need to be an only cat, and I know many people on the forms, like me, have several cats! So it was finding the right owner/home so she can retire without feeling the need to attack other cats!
I'm currently paying for her tests/medication, which I'll do because she needs it, bless her, but obviously as I'm not keeping her, and with a menagerie of 21 animals to pay for, I have more than enough costs!! :briggin: I've already spent £40 on one blood test and meds, not to mention the food she consumes!! But she'll have anything she needs while in my care (I'll just have to try and earn more!)
Not sure if an auction could be a way forward... we can donate items as we have a fine art business and donate to a lot to wildlife and domestic animal charities, and we have some fab big and little cat prints!
Anyone with ideas... let me know.

I'd be willing to chip in if an op was right for her...
She'll still probably be fairly hard to rehome being an older lady and of course needing to be an only cat but it would take away the worry of ongoing meds/blood tests and also the daily medicating for any potential new owners.
-
I would be willing to chip in as well :)
-
What would be the best way to fundraise? A general post or an auction? I am happy to setup whichever is best for this old girl.
I really feel for her, and would love her to have a forever retirement home. Sometimes, she'll have just seen me in the room and when I walk in a few minutes later, she looks all worried and runs away. Also, if she sees me carrying certain things, she runs away, looking petrified, and hides. I'm thinking someone's done something horrid to her in the past. She saw me with a carrier bag the other day and bolted and hid under my desk... it broke my heart. :'( She's a sweet girl in a worried/anxious body, I think... I sometimes just sit on the floor with her and she rubs and bumps against me and likes little affectionate kisses on the head...
Let's hope we can create a wonderful future fr her... I only wish she could stay with me...
-
I think a general post as we have our own auction at Xmas so wouldn't want to tread on any paws! Would you able to get an estimate of how much it might cost through your vet contacts?
If it's a feasible amount to raise then as I was lucky enough to win £55 on the Purrs draw last month I would be happy to 'recycle' that to start her fund off :)
As it's a non-registered Purrs rescue use we have to add the usual disclaimer:
It is up to the individual member to donate their money to a donation or fund request and Purrs advises strongly to carry out full checks that funds would be used for the stated purpose. Purrs cannot be held responsible for members private donations to a request that is not an Official Purrs fundraisier or collection.

Just a thought is this old lady on facebook cause if she had her own page we could run an auction on there for her and she could be seen by a lot of folks plus half of us here are on facebook and could share her story and try and get her a following
More than happy to bid on cat items, can't give to much in the way of funds as we have double your lot of animals here at the Clan and then some more but they are happy to spend Daddy's money on an auction for a needy cat
-
I have now set up a page for Edna on Facebook...
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Edna-Needs-A-Home/269450369751128
I will have to sort out some kind of auction or something on there for her, when I know how to do it! I should have a couple of estimates for the surgery early next week, so at least I'll know what I've to aim for. I have my 15% discount and I'm sure the vet will keep surgery time to a minimum for me too. I'll update once I know...

I'm not up on how FB works as not on there myself but can people add the link to their wall (or wherever it goes!) to spread the word for her? Hopefully her Florence nightingale II is round the corner
-
I have added the link to my wall, afraid I'm a bit of a billy no mates though :-:
-
Have you managed to find Edna a home yet. She looks a lot like one of my previous cats. I've have put it on my Facebook wall to see if it gets noticed down in the Notts area. :innocent:
-
Hi,
No, no home for Edna yet :(
I have just had an estimate for a thyroidectomy, I/V fluids, pre-anaesthetic bloods and meds... £220, so I'll be looking to fundraise for her op, providing her bloods show she's ok to have the op in the first place. I am taking her in on Tuesday for a T4 re-test to see where her thyroid levels are now she's on the new dose, so I'll have a chat with the vet and make an informed decision for her. She's a little devil for her tablets now too, I always hide it in a little of her fave pate food, and a lot of the time I find all the food gone and the tablet sat looking at me - meat free - from the bottom of the dish! Wise old devil! I could move her onto Vidalta, which is one a day, but if she's going to have the op then there's no point, plus they are more expensive.
I'll update as soon as she's been to the vets...
Liz xx
-
Sometimes they are just too clever for their own good leaving the tablet the little minx :evillaugh: I hope she will be able to have the op and will keep my fingers crossed the tests and chat to the vet on Tuesday do not rule it out :)
-
She's not as stupid as you first thought - what self-respecting cat would willingly eat a hidden tablet :innocent: :evillaugh: Fingers crossed for Tuesday, let us know how she gets on
-
She's great!
-
I usually crush any tablet my cat may need and mix it with his favourite food and he just eats it all.
-
I know that's fine with some meds, but some shouldn't be crushed (I think it's the ones with a shiny coating?) can't remember now! Thankfully, she's such a pig that if I re-plant it in more food, it usually goes down :shy: I am good at giving cats tablets by mouth (had to do it a lot as a vet nurse!!) but even I wouldn't try it on her... value my fingers too much :scared: Even with a pill popper I think she'd go ape... little old madam!!!

My Pep is on Vidalta (not shiny) but they mustn't be crushed, before we adopted him they were crushed and didn't work. He's fine on them now his levels are stable but I have to give then in Primula, if the Primula is a bit runny though he just licks it off and leaves his at the bottom of his dish :naughty: then it goes in a piece of Webbox because if they don't work first time they start to harden from the dampness. Failing that a 2 man attempt at giving by hand - he's totally blind though and hates being manhandled.
-
How's Edna getting on just now, her pics are on the Facebook page. :allears: :crossed:
-
I'm taking Edna in Tuesday for a T4 re-test and poss pre-anaesthetic bloods so I'll let you know the outcome...
I wish she'd settle and relax with the other cats... almost 2-months now, and she still sits at the top of the stairs and smacks, hisses at, and/or chases anyone with fur who dares to try and pass...including the dogs!
She's becoming much more sweet with me thought... she regularly climbs onto her hind legs and puts her paws on my lap when I'm sat working... if I ignore her, she pats at my hand until I give her chin and head rubs :Luv2:
Anyway... I'll update as soon as we've been to the vets.

:allears: :allears:  good luck for Tuesday then
-
Edna had her T4 blood test today... still under 6! (10-55 range), so she's currently really suppressed. Reducing the dose to 2.5mg twice a day. Helena, the vet treating her, thinks we should go ahead with the op so I'll be starting some fundraising for this. I will, of course, get a heart check and pre-anaesthetic bloods, just to make sure she's ok pre-op, and I will get her on I/V fluids to ensure a safer op and better recovery.
I just hope by doing this it will help her get a home... she's coming along lovely with me, but the obvious tension coming through from her being around other cats is a worry. I just can't keep her and keep upsetting my gang... which is really sad.
Her coat is in amazing condition!! When she was taken in as a stray she weighed in at 1.7kg. We weighed her today and she's... wait for it... 2.95kg!!! Brilliant Edna!!! I'll also get the vet to do a mini/quick dental on her when she's under.
Just need a home for her now... any help with this MUCH appreciated.
I'll keep you all updated on the op front.
Liz and Edna :Luv: xx
-
That's great news about her weight and coat :) If she can have the op and everything goes OK how about a local newspaper appeal for a good home?
-
What's happening with Edna now, is she still with you?
-
Yes, she's still with me. I have just started fundraising for her on Facebook. I've got to sort her a home as soon as she has had the op (hoping I raise the funds!) She needs to be an only girl desperately, but is coming on leaps and bounds with me, including climbing up onto the chair when I'm working for fusses and chin rubs :Luv:

Anyone able to donate anything towards the £220 cost of her thyroidectomy, my paypal address is: lizstokes@tiscali.co.uk and any funds would be gratefully received.
Also, anyone able to donate an item to the auction, it can be added on the Facebook page. I've just added some prints from our business or cats and wildlife.
Thanks!

I've donated my Purrs draw winnings which was £55 so a quarter of the way there ;D
Edna is so lucky that you took her in (and probably saved her from being put to sleep) but she really deserves a home of her own now, hopefully once she's had the op she'll be much more 'appealing' to a potential new home as taking on an elderly cat that needs daily meds is a big ask.
As any donations are for a non-registered Purrs rescue use we have to add the usual disclaimer:
It is up to the individual member to donate their money to a donation or fund request and Purrs advises strongly to carry out full checks that funds would be used for the stated purpose. -
WOW! Thank you SO MUCH for the huge donation... I appreciate it so much! A big thank you for Edna and me :Luv:
Liz x
-
My pleasure, I was lucky enough to win the Purrs monthly draw so it's like 'recycling' my winnings :) Still £165 to raise though so would be fab if people could chip in a little - even if it was a £1 every little helps ;D
I really feel for Edna, she is so lucky that you stepped in and saved her - fingers crossed she can find herself a fab home once she's had her op :)
-
Thanks Helen... I feel for her so much too. She is a really sweet girl needing to be in an only cat home so she can relax and really find herself. To see her cower away from certain things, and be afraid then aggressive towards my other cats is so sad. I only wish I could keep her, but it's upsetting my gang. All she's gone through from being a stray, to a new home with other cats, to being hyper T and then soon the op, she really, really deserves a lovely retirement home forever.
I will help any cats I can... I always will, but, unfortunately, I'm not an endless bank, so any funds helps massively. I have another oldie being fostered by my vet friend until a slot opens here when Edna finds a home. The day I became a vet nurse was the day I started working to pay for the rescue animals!!! And when you have other nurse and vet friends, I get contact phone calls about all species :sneaky: especially the old cats, which I can't see PTS through no fault of their own. :'(
Anyway, fingers crossed the auction raises some funds... I've donated 3 really lovely prints painted by my boyfriend - 2 domestic cats, 1 tiger, so everyone have a look on Edna's Facebook page!

Have just sent you 20 squid Edna (C/O yer mum's Paypal account). Spend it wisely kiddo :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

Wow wow wow!!! Thank you all SO much :Luv: I have now got £145 in the Edna fund, so only £75 to go!! I am waiting for confirmation from the vet that Monday's ok for the op... I'll be so worried about her... as I always am! Helena, the vet, is fantastic with cats... I trust her ability and judgement completely, and loved working with her. Edna will have pre-op bloods to check liver/kidneys, and a thorough heart check. She'll be on I/V fluids from the minute she goes in, throughout the op, and for the rest of the day until I go fetch her to ensure she will be as stable and recovered as possible. I am sure Helena will do a little dental on her for nothing, mainly to remove the thick tartar, and she hopefully won't need any removing.
I'll keep you updated through the week... Even though she's old, I know this is the best thing to do, as she won't have to go through regular 3-weekly blood tests and daily medication. She hates the tablets now, and I have to watch her like a hawk to make sure she's not batted the tablets away!! Plus the ongoing expense... to date this has cost about £70 for the bloods and meds, and who knows what feeding the little piggy on the only thing she'll eat, which is luxury pate!!
She's a feisty little cracker!!!

£20 from me sent via Paypal to lizstokes@tiscali.co.uk.
Good luck Edna!
ETA: The payment shows as "Payment To About Fact Portraits & Prints" - is this right?

:Luv: Massive Thank You!!!! That's £165 now!!!
Edna would come on and type a thank you, but she's just had yet another half can of Gourmet Gold pate, and is currently lied in her bed cleaning her paws :)
Thank you!!

Donation sent via Paypal :)
-
Thank you! That's now £185!!! We're almost there!!! I think another lovely lady is about to donate, too. I though I'd end up paying a decent amount for her, so thank you all very much :Luv:
You're all amazing :)
Liz xx
-
Hi
Just about to donate - will see if I can do it by paypal or not. Will p/m you in a minute or two!!
-
Dear everyone,
Thank you SO much for your fab donations... :Luv: Now I can get rid of this naughty thyroid that is the size of a pea! I am quite good in the vets (even though I have to be wrapped in a towel!) and I will be extra good for my bloods, heart check and when they put me on a drip. I know it is all for my own good. And I am sure that I will be ready for dinner as soon as I wake up :briggin:
Me and my foster mum are amazed and gob-smacked and so grateful for all your help... I hope I can find a forever home to retire in after the operation is over and I'm all better, as the other cats are really nice, but I just don't like em' and it would be nice to relax and not feel the need to chase and swipe as they walk past me minding their own business
I have just had a nice dish of pate (my fourth today!) so time for a snooze in my bed...
Thank you all... you've helped save an old lady who's been through quite a lot :Luv:
Love Edna xxx
-
What a sweetie! :Luv2:
Wishing her all the best.
-
That's it!! We've raised the full £220 in a day!! Thank you all so much.
I'll obviously keep you all updated about Edna and the op, and in the meantime, if anyone hears of a possible home for her, please let me know.
Now I'll be loitering in the op room for the whole time being a worrying foster mum :scared: I've done lots and lots of old cat ops, but when it's yours, or in this case, a foster girl who needs a real break, I'll be nail biting the whole time! Helena is a fast, efficient vet, so she'll had the thyroid off in no time. She's also the queen of getting bloods and placing catheters, so Edna'll be in the best possible hands.
Thanks eveyone :Luv:

A little update...
I am REALLY pleased to say that after being here about 2+ months, Edna has made a little progress with the other cats. Some of my cats are getting braver, and yesterday 3 came into the office (Ned, Forest and Gladys) and Edna sat, watched them closely, grumbled a bit but didn't charge and attack them!! Was quite shocked, in a pleasant way! Also, Gladys, my little white girl, comes in every day (mainly to see if there's any left-over food she can steal!) but it's like Edna's gotten used to her. Gladys can sit about a feet away from Edna, and Edna has actually now started to ignore her! Hopefully a sign of her softening a little of the tension and aggression is subsiding.
She's being pampered rotten today as from 9pm it's starvation time for the op tomorrow... So PLEASE send good thoughts that Edna's thyroidectomy goes smoothly, that her bloods and heart are good, and that she has a smooth anaesthetic and recovers well so she can come home and recover with me spoiling her... Had a good feel of her thyroid yesterday, and it's quite large, very palpable and moves freely, so hopefully Helena will have it removed in no time. Also gonna get her a quick nail clip and ear clean, and hopefully a mini dental so she'll feel like a new girly...
She is a feisty old lady who's been through so much and deserves to be in good health and find a forever home...
I'll be a ridiculous bag of nerves tomorrow... always am when it's mine or ones I'm caring for...
Good Luck Edders!!! And thank you again to everyone who donated towards her op... you're wonderful!!

YAY!!! Edna's absolutely fine :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
She was a RIGHT bag this morning... firstly, she was NOT happy that she could't have breakfast and followed me around yowling with displeasure >:( and then when they took bloods, she was good, but when they tried to place the catheter in her leg for her drip, it took 3 of us to hold her down :naughty: She scratched the vet and the other nurse, and was being a total angry madam...
Her blood results were perfect!! You have a low, normal and high range, and hers were all perfectly balanced in the normal range, so her liver and kidneys are in perfect nick for an old girl :briggin: which is very good to be honest! So, whoever she gets a home with, she's looking like a pretty fit and active old girl!
Her thyroid did have a cyst on it, as when I palpated it the day before yesterday I could tell the shape and form had changed. This was due to the cyst, so it took longer to remove than normal. We clipped her nails, cleaned her ears and cracked the tartar from her teeth... we half expected that when we removed the tartar there may be rotten teeth or roots/holes showing, but she has fab teeth underneath, so another bonus for Edna!! I think she's about 15+ (looking at her eyes/grey flecks on the black fur, but she's a very healthy 15+
She woke up quickly, and when I fussed her just before I left she was wobbly but rubbing her face against me for chin rubs and fusses :Luv: I'm leaving her in overnight so she gets the full benefits of the bag of fluids. I'll pick her up in the morning. She's having long-acting anti-b and pain relief jabs, so no more tablets for Edna to pick out and spit in the dish!!
I'm on holiday from Thursday for a week, but I've now gotta find her a home. When I get back everything will be well-healed, so if anyone can rehome a very fit older lady as an only cat (or possibly with only one other older cat) PLEASE let me know. We've gone through all this, and I'd love he to find a forever home to relax and enjoy her retirement...
I'll update more later.
A very relieved Liz and a naughty, groggy Edna! xx
-
supherb and a great older lady ;D ;D
-
Brilliant news ;D Go Edna! Hope she has a comfortable night :care:
Once your back from your hols and Edna is fully recovered we could put her in the 'newsflash section' at the top of Purrs. Just need a little write up and a few pics.
Also, is it worth asking rescues local to you that if anyone asks specifically for an oldie (some people do) and they don't have any suitable candidates that they consider passing your details to the enquirer?
-
My nurse friend just text saying Edna's had her first food since the op... and it was a food with lumps, not a pate that I give her!! She'll eat anything at the mo because she'll be so hungry!!!
She's doing absolutely fine, bless her.
Yeah, I'll maybe do a local newspaper article too, that way I can check who has her. The newsflash section would be fab, thanks. I could ask the local rescues, but I know a lot of the local ones a full to the brim with young and old alike, so I doubt they'd send anyone my way.
Weird in the office without Edna...

Way to go, Edna!

;D Great news! hope that things turn out really well for her

Edna's home, and boy can't we tell!! :Luv:
She yowled all the way back in the car, tried to swat me when I took her leg bandage off where her drip had been, has attacked Ned and backed him into a corner (Ned being the boss cat!) and eaten 2 meals. She's spent the last half hour trying to climb onto my chair with me, and now she's sat in the doorway watching for unsuspecting cats to pass that she can scare the living daylight out of :briggin: So, basically, the naughty madam is home!!!!
The total bill was £231.32, and I'm happy to scan and put this on for any of the donators to see. It was a bit over the estimate as she had the long acting anti-b injection because of her discarding of tablet habit!
Ah, she's now gone to finally lie down in her bed... I though she'd be pooped when she got back, and want to sleep it off... oh no! Not Edna, back into the swing of things straight away!!!
Her wound looks fab, and as soon as I'm back of my hols, she'll need that home...
I'll keep you updated!!
Liz & Edders!!

She sounds like such a character! :Luv: Glad she's back safe and sound :)

What a Miss Madam ;D ;D

Sounds like she's a real character! Glad it went well!

Glad she is still a fiesty girl :evillaugh:

;D wonderful news ;D ;D I so hope she finds a wonderful home for a wonderful lady
Well done Liz hun.
-
Don't you just love those senior ladies and there total disregard for the vets aftercare advice ;D
Hope the recovery goes well and am so glad she has had her op and treatment
-
Edna sounds totally brilliant. :) Glad she's doing well.
-
A gentle bump for the beautiful Edna :Luv2: Still looking for her forever home...
-
Has Edna found a new home yet and has she recovered from the operation okay?
-
This a heartwarming story :) :) I too would love to hear how Edna is doing :Luv:
-
Hi everyone,
Apologies not been on to update... went away to Florida for a week and been crazy busy since I got home (working at home can be a nightmare post-holiday!)
Thanks everyone, and Edders sends a HUGE whisker-twitching smile! xx

Wonderful news ;D
-
I'll put Edna up in the 'newsflash' section to try and get her more exposure. Would you be happy for her to travel for the right home (subject to homecheck of course). The good people of Purrs have often helped with transport runs in the past.
I also think an article is a great idea if your local paper will run one, my local RSPCA has a section in the paper of needy/hard to home cats and each week they put new ones in and 80% of the time all the cats from the previous article (usually 4) have found homes :)
-
Awww what wonderful news !!! Well done Edna :Luv: :Luv: I hope someone comes forward very soon , she sounds so special :Luv:
-
So happy to hear Edna's doing well, I'm sure she'll find her purrfect home soon.
-
Yes, if she needs to travel to find the right home for her, I'm fine with that. I've helped with a couple of transport runs for cats, and Edna's pretty good travelling, give of take the odd pleading meow!
While giving her the little weekly check over, just noticed a sore looking nail bed, so will need to get her checked on Mon/Tue... she had her nails cut during the op, so not sure if she's chewed at it. Edna keeps me on my toes!!
I'll see about a write up... I am so attached to her now, but I know she's be happier without other cats, so I'm just gonna have to be tough once again (I'm not very good at that!) :(
Liz
-
OK great, I've done her a temporary write up to put in the news box - see above, it cycles through so wait a few seconds if you don't see her! - I'm happy to change it once you've had a chance to write one for her.
Hope her sore claw isn't giving her too much jip, Riley is a claw chewer and it makes me cringe the way he pulls at them!
:crossed:
Edit: I've also added an update to your original post making it clear she's had the op in case a potential rehomer saw about the daily meds and was put off from enquiring about her.
-
That's a great little write-up!!! Thank you!!! We'll see if there are any responses... I'll get onto a write-up in the next couple of days.
Regarding her nail, If I hadn't looked I'd never have noticed!! She is acting perfectly normal, but I DON'T want it getting infected, or it will be ever so ouch!! When I held her and looked/felt up-close, she didn't care... pretty good for her... I was expecting to be slapped and clawed and growled at :wow: Now wondering if they did a personality transplant when she was under the anaestheitc :)

I've also posted on CatChat linking back to here :crossed:

OMG I ADORE this old moo!!! She's just done a HUGE poo in her tray, then went running onto the landing at FULL SPEED dancing and bouncing around like a complete nutty kitten!!! I was in hysterics at her!! I called my other half up and he was in fits of laughter at her... I SO wish I'd videod it!! Then she ran back in the office behind a box, reared up and wiggled patting the top and ran out and then behind the door!!! It was a case of blink and you'd miss it!! Got a feather for her to play with, and she just went wild chasing and batting it as if to say "What sore claw?" I do love her to bits... nutty old moo bag!!!
All that because she was obviously pleased about her toileting!!
GO EDDERS!!!!

Have just written the little piece about Edna to go in the local paper (Newark Advertiser) and would appreciate feedback, or if I'm missing anything on it!! Please see below...
LOOKING FOR A FOREVER HOME
Meet Edna. Edna is a mid-teen lady looking for a retirement home with a loving, experienced family. Edna was taken into a vets in Nottingham as a stray, and was due to be put to sleep. The crisis with unwanted cats in the UK often means the senior cats don’t get that second chance to live out their twilight years, and, very sadly, are being put to sleep all over the country.
Edna was diagnosed as having an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), and she weighed in at just 1.9kg! £220 was donated by some fantastic people on a national cat forum, Purrs in our hearts, which meant Edna could have the operation to remove her enlarged thyroid, and in turn, make her a more suitable rehoming candidate without the need for regular blood tests and medication. The operation was a success, and Edna’s blood results also showed she is a very healthy older lady, who now weighs almost 3kg! Edna was tested for feline aids and Leukaemia, and was found disease free.
Edna does, however, need to be homed with understanding and experienced cat owners, and would suit a home with no children. She does not like being around other cats or dogs, so would need to be an only pet. She was very nervous when she came into my care, but over the last three-months has come out of her shell and turned into a playful, affectionate lady, although she is not a lap cat. She is almost completely deaf, so would need to be an indoor cat, or have access to a very secure garden. Edna is very clean and uses a litter tray. She has also been wormed and frontlined.
Prospective owners need to be aware of the implications of taking on an older cat, and the probability that she will require more veterinary care as the years pass. A home and vet check would be carried out, and a donation of £30 is required, which will be placed into a fund for other stray/older cats which come into my care.
Anyone interested in offering Edna her forever retirement home, please contact Liz on 01636 651699
I will be putting a photo in too, of course.
Thanks in advance,
Liz & Edders! xxx

hope you dont mind but have added a word that i think was missing, its in red cos too hard to explain lol.
i dont know if maybe near end you need to explain how/why they come into your care cos we know but wonder if some will see the money maybe coming into your pocket?
purrs needs capital h too i think...............i know not a cap her but only have one hand at moment........sigh
nice little piece about edna ;D
-
Very good :) Maybe add a few key words to tug at the heart strings too - like 'found herself alone and unwanted' 'desperate for a home of her own' etc etc :naughty: I really hope that special someone is out there for her :crossed:
Also after 'found to be disease free' you could put something like 'and is a picture of health with no known issues' just to stress that she's currently fit and healthy?
-
Another thought... how about including an email address in case people would prefer to make initial contact that way? I hate talking on the phone to strangers so if I can break the ice via email I would be much more inclined to make contact.

A bump for a beautiful older lady in need of a cat free home :wish:

Thank you!! Well... we are torn about keeping Edna now!! She has improved massively since her op, and is much more chilled out!! She's still having the odd fisti-cuff with, well, mainly Gladys because Gladys is a cocky madam who think's no cat in the world can take her!! And I know she'll never 'like' other cats, but to see her washing herself and stretching in the bed, and climbing up to me for fusses and chin rubs, and about half an hour ago I heard something small being patted on the floor... looked around to see Edders batting a small piece of wood cat litter about!! She was up on her hind legs, fake pouncing, then patting it all over the hall!! I went to get her some toys, and she spent the next ten-minutes chasing and whacking a ping-pong ball about!!
Would appreciate thought on if we should keep her... I do adore her, and to see how far she has come since she came here about 4-months ago is quite amazing, bless her. Not to mention the fact I've now spent about £130 quid on her!!!
Anyway, opinions welcome...

Have you had any offers of a potential home? A 15 yr old black cat that doesn't like other cats was never going to be the easiest of cats to find a home, even with her thyroid issue 'fixed', soooooo... if there's no other homes in the pipeline and you think that she is happier now (wonder if that's down to not having the issues that go along with being hyperthyroid now?) then there's certainly no harm in her becoming a forever foster :)
You were the one that saved her from being PTS so it would be nice if you can at least be rewarded with the cat litter batting and ping pong whacking moments :)
-
No pressure but sounds like she is very happy with you and it would be lovely if she could stay there.
-
Thank you!! Well... we are torn about keeping Edna now!! She has improved massively since her op, and is much more chilled out!! .............
Would appreciate thought on if we should keep her... I do adore her,
Oooh let's think  A difficult one this :um: :um: :um:
What am I saying? :stupid:
Obviously the answer is "yes" if you feel you can
-
I think if you are happy to offer her a home and feel she is happy with you then yes she should stop with you :)
-
Thanks guys! Sadly, I have had not one bit of interest in Edders... I think like you said the age thing, and fact she won't integrate with the other cats goes against her a lot. I do believe the best home for her would be with a retired, experienced couple who will understand her and have her as an only cat, but that probably gives her about a 0.5% chance of finding the perfect home! And I don't want to constantly search for that evasive home for who knows how long when she's settling a bit more every day here... I'd sooner just enjoy having the old girl and fussing and playing with her and letting her find her feet totally. Just hope she gets better and better as the days pass with the other cats. You never know, having cocky Gladys constantly wanting to 'be' around her may acclimatise her to them more ;) then the other quieter ones will not be worth her time bothering with them!!
So, on that note, I would like to announce she is now a permanent part of our clan :Luv:

Glad to hear that she Edna is settling in with you now. I've amended the title and will move this to sorted now :)

That's great news, I'm so pleased for her (and you!) :)
