Title: Got a baby ginger lodger - Updated Pics of Alfie in his new home. - 31 Oct 2010
Post by: Sam (Fussy_Furball) on August 15, 2010, 20:46:28 PM
I went into the garden this morning about 10:00 am to hang out the washing and was greeted by a stunning little ginger boy (about 4 months old I'd say).  Had never seen him before but he was very freindly ... I gave him a little stroke, hung out the washing and left him playing in the sunshine.

I was going to see one of my friends about 1:00 andbefore I went out I called my lot and got them back indoors.  Little Ginger boy was still in the garden  :-:

I got back home about 7:00 and when I opened the back door to let Zephyr out,  who was sat on the doorstep .... little ginger boy!  He came running straight in (much to Zephs surprise) and dived straight into the food bowl!!  I have gave him something to eat and drink and left the back door open so he could "go home".   All he did was go to the litter tay and have a pee and a poo

I went upstairs and had a bath and have come back down to find the little lad happily playing with a toy mouse.

I really don't want to put him out again as he has obviously been in the garden all day ... I did try and put him out and shut the door but he just cried ... so it looks like he might be staying the night unless someone comes looking for him!

He is absolutely GORGEOUS.

Oh he is a beauty can see why you don't want to leave him out all night on his own.  Could be worth putting posters up to say you have found him.  It could of been his trip out after being vaccinated and he has got a bit lost.

I don't have  printer a t home so can't do many posters ... but I have done a few hand written ones and put them at the end of my road and a couple of the neighbouring roads (we are all terraced houses round here).  So hopefully I'll get a call about him.  He is currently sound asleep on the sofa (proper dead to the world) ... poor little lamb is exhausted after being awake all day I guess!  :tired:

He is stunning and is obviusly a loved pet ..... he's really cuddly ... but far too young to be out on his own now.  Espeically round here ... boy racers all come out on a Sunday evening and I wouldn't be able to sleep if I left him out.

I can't believe no-one has called about him yet .... surely someone must be walking the streets looking for him.

He is really lovely and obviously was looking for a nice pad to get some food and a kip  ;D

I used to think that Kocka was much too nice to not have an ownere but reckon she was dumped and looked for a house without a cat, she didnt like other cats but was very well trained and no kidddy kat but she was new to the area and no one was looking for her.

Well done Sam - so what if there are no calls?  :shify:

Well I've had no calls about the little man .... he spent the night asleep on the bed.  I put him in the spare room but he decided that my bed looked much better and I was woken up with him purring like a tractor and kneading away on my arm.  I had Foxy on one pillow, Rossi at the bottom of the bed and "Ginger Man"  next to me.  Zephyr sleeps downstairs on the sofa and Ollie sleeps in the kitchen.

Going to print off some posters today which I'll stick round the area and see what happens next.  I don't really want another kitty but he is rather gorgeous  ;)

Went home at lunchtime to check that Zephyr hasn't beaten "pumpkin" up.  I needn't have worried everyone was sound asleep ... Ginger Man (aka Pumpkin ;)) was curled up on a jumper in the middle of my bed  :Luv2: :Luv2:

No sign of any posters / flyers yet and still no call.  I put a poster up in the local newsagent and replaced my handwritten notices so we shall see if that prompts any response tonight.  I get the impression that Pumpkin lives with other cats as he is totally NOT phased by my lot and I have a suspicion he knows a tortie / dark cat as he really has a thing for Rossi.  He kept trying to get close to her on the bed last night ... but she was having none of it, and every time she moves he follows her and tries to play with her.

I have added his details to the "lost and found" section and will put him on the NPR and Mymoggy tomorrow if no response tonight.

Zephyr isn't very impressed ..... he keeps Yowling (very loundly) at the poor little soul but Pumpkin isn't bothered at all (which makes me think he is from a multi cat house).

There's a Lilly Pumpkin. She's a special needs cat and is rather lovely. (See picture - she's one of Blackpool Cats in Cares former residents.)

Sam, do you think Zephyr is really annoyed or just making sure the young 'un stays in line?

Just got back from the vet and surprise surprise NO microchip  :(

Vet thinks he's about 4 months old!

I think Zephyr is just mouthing off to keep baby in his place.  He hasn't swiped at him or anything just hissed and yowled alot!  :evillaugh:  Zephyr is a typical  "Foreign" ... all mouth.

I agree that he looks like a cat who has an owner as he seems well cared for and very friendly.  The lack of microchip is probably just because most people get their kittens chipped at the same time as neutering.  I'd guess he has escaped somehow and got himself lost.  But if no-one claims him, I think little Pumpkin has found himself a home!  Clever boy.

Post by: Sam (Fussy_Furball) on August 17, 2010, 11:15:23 AM
Well FYI and to all those people that don't believe I won't keep him .... I have lined up a new home for the little ginger man (assuming no-one claims him).

One of my mum's friends has offered him a home.  She has two oldies and she recently adopted 2 kittens (sadly one of the kittens got out of the garden and was killed on the road).  They have just spent a small fortune "cat proofing" the whole garden to keep the other little one safe and were thinking of getting a new playmate for him.  So I have said I will keep Pumpkin for 2 weeks and if no-one has claimed him by then .... he will be transported to his new home in the country (it's about 20 mins drive from me).  So even if his parents turn up at a later date he can still be easily transported back.

So good news all round really.

Last night when I was in bed I heard a crash and thump and it seems that Ginger Man tried to jump from the end of the bed onto the my dressing table.  He seemed fine at the time no crying of anything so I put him back on the bed and went back to the sleep.  Got up this morning and he was curled up in the bottom of the wardrobe looking really sad  .  He had used his litter tray in the night but when I called him for breakfast he didn’t get up!  I picked him for a cuddle and he was purring away as usual but he won’t put any weight on his front leg.  I have checked him all over and there are no obvious breaks so I’m guessing he has just sprained something but I have made an appointment at the vet for 5:50 this evening just to on the safe side.

Poor little man looks so sad and quiet.

The STRAY (aka Pumpkin)is feeling alot better thanks.  But I am so pleased I took him to the vet tonight .... turns out he hadn't injured himself.  The poor little lamb had a temperature of 40.2 degrees!!!  The vet said it was probably a virus.  :scared:

He has had a jab of antibiotics,  jab of anti-inflammatories and a 5 day course of penicillin.  He is nowmuch better ... within 1 hour of having the jab he has perked up no end and had a whole packet of kitten food  :)

I, on the other hand, am now £40 lighter in the pocket   But thank goodness I took him tonight before the "bugs" really kicked in.

FYI HE IS NOT STAYING!!!

So totting up food costs and vet fees, your investment in this "stray" now stands at approximately, say £60?

Big spends for an unwanted "stray" you named Pumpkin who has slept on your bed from day one......................

So lets get this straight - he has a name, he sleeps on your bed, you're taking him to the vets for a check up after his bedroom antics but you're NOT keeping him?  :naughty:

P.S Hope it's just a sprain but give him a gentle :care: from me and the boys

Well what would you do Helen ... call him "oi", make him sleep outside and leave the poor mite to suffer in silence if he was hurt!???? I don't think so!  :naughty:

BTW ... you forgot the fact that I went to Pets at Home last night and bought Felix Kitten pouches and Applaws kitten dry
Oh yeah, and that  :naughty:

Seriously though, so glad his Mummy Auntie picked up on him being off colour and hope he's back to his best soon enough

FYI HE IS STAYING!!!

poor little mite. Good news though that his leg is ok.

Your right hun it is a"big investment" perhaps this should serve as a warning to other potential owners!  Kittens may be small but they are not cheap  ;).  I'm just pleased it was me that found him and I was in a position to be able to help him.

The vet did say that he might have picked up the germs from my lot .... they are adult so any sniffles that they could have been carrying wouldn't have affected them but with Pumpkin being so young and obviously not having had his jabs his immune system isn't developed yet.

It's hard to say Susanne .... but she suspected not.  :-:

and where is he sleeping tonight?

Well that's a silly question .... if you're feeling poorly you go to bed - and seeing as there is only one double bed in the house we had to share!  :evillaugh:

Only just spotted this thread.  :sneaky:

You lot are mean! Sam did the decent thing and took in a poor lost soul and gave him shelter and look you lot are like.  :innocent: :evillaugh:

I reckon someone's going to came back home from hols pretty soon (maybe even stranded due to one of these travel firms going bust?) and find the trusted friend/relative who is supposed to be looking after their beloved ginger kitten has let him out.  :scared: They'll be devastated.  :( Look at him... he's no stray. I seen enough strays or dumpees in my life. Someone has been taking great care of him.  :naughty: He's been allowed to escape by some careless visiting feeder I reckon.  :tired:

Sam you could of called him sweetie pie as in the affectionate term but oh no you gave him a name lol.  He looks at you so adoringly and so trusting and you going to make him leave you and go miles away from the person he chose to be his guardian.  You should know by now that you don't own the house the cats do.

Just think of this saying "You don't share your home with the cat, the cat shares its home with you" if they are not happy they leave and he chose you to share his home with.

You know he has left his little pawprints on your heart already.  Deep down you know he is really home and he classes you as his meowmy.  He will cry for his meowmy and you will make him feel rejected if you send him away.

PS So glad you caught him early with the virus and he has not got a poorly leg.

Am very surprised not to have Anne Tabby Cat threatening a catnapping mission coz Pumpkin sorta reminds me of someone  :innocent:

I'm afraid he also looks very much like the crazy ginger pud outside our house this am (about 18 months old same as our girls I'd say).

2 chaps were other side of our narrow road talking about manoeuvring the skip with a little yorkie in cabin when ginger from half way down the road decided to do a Kamikaze dive towards the road as I heard a truck approach

Everyone including chaps, dog and cat were startled by shrieks as I bellowed "NO"  followed by  "I SAID NO!" .  As ginger scuttled off back onto pavement and home (about 10 houses down the road) I sheepishly explained "he's a right little bu**er that one" (I've posted before about him sitting in road) to which the scruffy skip driver said "but you wouldn't want anything to happen to the little chap would you"  Bless!  :)

So glad Pumpkin found you Sam  :).  Whether or not he picked anything up from your lot, plenty of horrid stuff could have happened to the little chap by now if left to his own devices

Sam found a Groovy Ginger Ninja on their farm in Farmville!

Although I should add that the Groovy Ginger Ninja refuses to leave, so should stay  :P

Well ... he's gone!!  :(  Got to his new home at 9:30 ... I opened the carrier and  Lenny - the resident 11 month old, jet black mini panther   :Luv2:- appeared to check out what was going on.  Alfie came straight out of the carrier and rub noses with Lenny then trotted off intothe kitchen to have a look round.  2 mins later there was the thunder of little feet and Aflie came running into the lounge followed by Lenny. Quick lap round the room and then Lenny ran off followed by Alfie  :)  And that's how I left him running about playing chase with his new best mate.  There was no hissing, spitting, or raised paws so I looks like they are going to get on just fine.

Kath has promised to keep me up to date on him but I am very happy that the little man has found his forever home and got a big brother to show him the ropes  :Luv2:

I also know Zephyr would never forgive me if I brought more than 1 in .... he's obviuosly been sulking cuz today he spent nearly 2 hours sat on my lap ... this is a boy who NEVER sits on my lap.  He will sit next to me but never on me.  I think he was "reclaiming me" as his own today!  :evillaugh:

I just reread what I wrote... sorry, I came across as a bit dismissive. I didn't mean it like that.  :-[  I was just trying to take your mind off it. To tell the truth I'm a bit tired as it's been a busy week and suffering from foot in mouth disease again.  :evillaugh:

The newer fosterers I know (or fosterers that don't have cats that often) always worry a bit and are a bit sad when they go.  :innocent: My remedy is always to get the next one in.  ;)

LOL S'ok hun I didn't take any offence .. I knew what you meant.  Don't worry

OMG Alfie Pumpkin has well and trully got his paws under the table.  I recieved a message (and pics) this morning and he is having a fab time in his new home.

Checkout the pics ... http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=61476&id=1587169418&l=12d579403a   (you don't need a facebook account to view this album).

His new best mate is called Tom not Lenny .... I got the names mixed up.  Lenny was Tom's brother and he got run over sadly :(

I was worried we would be deprived of updates once little Pumpkin/Alfie went to his new home, I needn't have worried his new parents seem to be snap-happy which is all good  :naughty: He's certainly settled in just fine!  :Luv:

Have you taken the posters down now  :shify:

Oh yeah Dawn ... These pics were taken litterally hours after arriving.  Aflie P is a very friendly little boy ... he was struggling to understanding why my lot didn't want to play all the time  :evillaugh:  He was over the moon when I opened the carrier at his new home and Tom wanted to play straight away.

That's Jimmy ... he's a real old soldier.  I think he's 15 or 16, a bit arthritic and totally NOT interested in playing!

Latest update on the little lad:

Alfie Pumpkin went to the Vet on Tuesday, and had first innoculations and he'll be going back in 3 weeks for the final jab and will be microchipped then too. It will be another month or two before he's ready for neutering.

The 'youngsters' are still chasing and wrestling like idiots! They both enjoyed playing in my shopping bag (see attached pics)!

:Luv: :Luv:  He's such a happy little lad, isn't he?

I'm still puzzled as to how he came to be wandering around outside.  He looks far too well cared for to be have been a stray.  Perhaps someone got him as a kitten then got fed up when he scratched the sofa or something  >:(  Tom is a cutie too and looks delighted to have another kitten to play with.

Me too Susanne .... I can't believe such a happy well adjusted little man didn't have a home ... unless of course he had hitched a lift from somewhere or been kicked out for scratching the sofa (he was quite good at that ;) )

Just to update everyone ....  Alfie P went to the vet last wednesday for his final jabs and while he was there he had the snip!

He came home a couple of hours later and Tom gave him a bit of a wide berth and left him to sleep off the anaesthetic.  When Alfie came downstairs for his tea he was back to his normal bouncy self and i and Tom had a game of rough and tumble!

Kath says he is doing very well, is a wonderful family member and they are so pleased he joined them.

I will remind her we need more pics soon  ;)

Not sure if he knows life could have turned out so differently for him but I do know that he repays his new mummy and daddy with so much love and cuddles.  He is obviously very happy and he loves Tom (his black brother).

I really like the picture of Alfie sunbathing on the pile of straw and also the one of him hiding under the duvet - even if he does look slightly possessed with those huge black eyes! lol
