Title: Bonnie - 2nd jab and doesn't look well, should we be worried?
Post by: NikNakNoo on June 04, 2016, 17:52:12 PM
Hi all

We took bonnie to the vets for her second jab and although we know from experience some kittens/cats become very sleepy bonnie seems very off colour.

She's very sleepy but she's also shaking like a leaf. She seems almost in pain and when she walks her back legs shake so much she has to sit down. She's meowing when we pick her up and she seems hot to touch.

Should we be concerned? When our other cat got his jabs  as a kitten he had a very bad reaction and we only found out this year after having his boosters that he's actually allergic to the contents of one of the boosters so can no longer have it.

Thank you for any replies in advance. Sure we are just being over worried mummies!!

I'd definitely call and speak to your vet.  It should pass, but some cats have adverse reactions, so do please follow this up.

I've just checked and the vets are closed. Re open tomorrow so do you think it's alright to monitor this evening and call tomorrow if she's still the same? Obviously if she gets any worse we will call the out of hours. It is just so horrid seeing them like this. Just wish you could explain.  Poor baby

No.  You need to get this reviewed today.  Sorry treasure, but you can't take that risk.

Do you mean just to call and ask for advice? She is currently fast asleep and not shaking but think that's cos she is so asleep. I have tried waking her but her eyes just close straight away.

And just like kids as soon as they see a doctor they are fine...I'm just calling the out of hours and she wakes up, strolls over to barnaby, has a stretch and makes an effort to play.  She's had a little to eat and she's been to the loo. No shaking now. So I hung up and didn't speak to antone yet.

Well it's your call, but from what you described, I would be getting it checked and now.  She may be alright, but adverse reactions can kill, especially in kittens.  You decide.

There's surely no harm in phoning the vet to ask for advice?

How is Bonnie doing now?

She's had a good sleep and she's now awake. Not shaking anymore and has had some food.  She's just gone for a wonder with the boys in the other room. She seems a lot better thank God.  She's still meowing when we pick her up so just gonna leave her be at the moment.  Fingers crossed it was just a crappy reaction to the jab.

How's your little lass this morning?  Hopefully back to her normal bouncy self?

This morning she is very much back to her usual self. She woke me this morning chasing around her brothers are full speed. She's eaten her breakfast and is very jolly indeed so looks like we were worrying over nothing!! Which is great. Hate seeing them like that.
