Hey everyone, my neighbour has recently passed away and unfortunately it now means that her wee cat is needing a new home as the neighbours family cant take him. He is a wee 5 year old boy who is friendly and just wants to be loved. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to re-home him? I have tried the cats protection but they have waitning lists of cats to take in and the cat and dog home near clydebank will only take him for 5 days then have him put down which is the last thing the family want for him as he s a loving wee boy. Can anyone help? He only has until the neighbours estate is sorted out which wont be much longer as the funeral is on tuesday. :(
Theres no family who can take him as her son has a dog and a small child and the other has come over from alaska and cant take him back with her
Ps, thank you for the help Jane

Hi, what a very sad situation.
I'm not exactly sure the area you're in - is it Scotland? if you edit your original post and add to the title that may help. Here is a link to rescues, if you click on the map for your area it will give a comprehensive list of rescues in the area you can contact.

I would ring round until one can help and do stress it's urgent they will prioritise and as this is urgent they may be able to help. Is there no family who can look after the cat at least until a rescue can take him in?

sorry, didnt mean to post in the wrong place,
It's not problem, in fact I'll move this to urgent

thanks again jane, i hope posting here will help find him a home, i had a look at the link you gave me and will try a few tomorrow :)

Best of luck, it's good to go through a rescue if possible as they will do any necessary homechecks and find the right home but do check they won't pts, that's awful :(

I don't know how Sunny Harbour are doing for space but they're in Fife and Sarah is lovely. I so wish I could help.

Poor little guy. You could try Argyll Animal Aid. Pat has been great and taken from out of area before but I don't know if she has spaces at the moment.
-
Pamela, if you can't find anyone closer to take him then we should have space in about a week - would hate to think of him being PTS. There are a large number of rescue's in glasgow which the link to catchat.org will provide full details for but if you are stuck and can get him to us then as I say we should have space in about a week.

thanx, i will let the family know so they can see if they can get him to your shelter. The owners funeral was today and i have told them everything so far that i have tried and they are really just wanting to make sure he gets a good home. I did find out today that he is a housecat and he only has 1 tooth but still eats fine as long as its soft food and not biscuits.
I will give them details of where you are and hopefully they will get in touch
Once again, Thank you

Just to update this thread I have spoken with the family of this cat and given them details of rescue's closer to where they are to save the journey across to us if need be - however have told them that if they have any problems at all we will take him and also offered advice on making sure he has some of his owners items, etc on moving him.
I have asked them to let me know if they do find somewhere - time will tell.

Ok, thanks for updating. If you get to know anymore please can you let me know and I can amend the thread :thanks:

Just to update on Rufus, i was told yesterday by the neighbours daughter that 1 of her sons has taken rufus to live with him and his other 2 cats. The chap you spoke to is working away this week which is probably why he hasnt been in contact with you. Thank you for all your help in offering to help re-home him. This story thankfully has a happy ending :)
