Most of you know that my precious boy Napoleon went to the Bridge just over a week ago and I have been sorta looking for another birman but today after watching them on utube have decided that I need another.
I am too old for a kitten and would like a rescue about 8 yrs old, male and seal point.
If you happen to come across one please will you let me know.
Thanks
-
have you contacted Kelly-Joy Gill, she might have heard of one of the grape vine
-
Have you been in contact with the lady at the Birman club or also perhaps a Seale Pointe Ragdoll Ragdoll rescue have some lovely ones they still have the big blue eyes and the lap gripping tendancies and are vocal to
-
Yes The Birman Cat Club only have a pair, lilac and blue at present and I already have a blue.
The fur of the blue is very differnt to that of a seal point and suspect all the lighter points are the same.
As much as I love the look of Ragdolls, its a birman I want cos they again are very different in personality.
What I am looking for is a pure bread cat with papers that has all the qualities of the breed but a rescue who needs a home.
I am watching the Birman Cat club rescue side very carefully but at present seems to be no adults around, which is great for the cats but not for me.
-
have you contacted any local breeders to see if they have anyone retiring or have had an adult returned for whatever reason?
-
We dont have local breeders Dawn, there is one who is member of the Birman Cat Club not that far away.................OK by most standards a long way lola nd hers would most likely come up through the Club although most keep there retired cats if they are good breeders.
Its definately birman kitten season and I dont think my vets had seen a birman in before cos cats are quite rare around here, especially ones like Napoleon.
Seem to be quite a lot looking for an adult birman at the moment.
-
There's a sealpoint at the Blue Cross called Clive ;) http://www.bluecross.org.uk/2574-87978/clive.html .
-
Thanks Gillian, had my hopes raised but not a full birman, no white paws!
May not be a birman at all although looks similiar but also doesnt like othet cats.......sigh
All birmans have white paws and blue eyes.
Will have to add Blue Cross to mt searches, thanks
I have emailed them too
-
have you tried these people
http://www.birmancatuk.co.uk/
-
Ooh, yes, I didnt notice the paws - reckon they've got it wrong, and he's a sealpoint ragdoll
-
Yes Dawn it came up in my searches a couple of days ago and I want the one on the left LOL
But there is no real info on there yet as they rebuilding the site.
Yes I think so too Gillian.
-
I don't know if this is one but he looks like yours and is in the RSPCA in Bradford age 6-7yrs, We got Callie & Monty there

Called Mr Tinkle
It's on facebook page
-
Sorry Gill he hasn't got white paws. He does have blue eyes though.
-
Poor boy he wants some people but think he is not a birman cos they dont show his feet. They say he needs a home on his own cos he doesnt like other cats :(
I have 3 cats.
Thanks Soufle
-
Yes, he looks like a Raggie too! I love the little sealpoint persian in their profile pic :Luv2:
-
Gill - have you tried county birman clubs (know you have tried the national) as they may operate their own welfare section.
Eg found this one - don't know if this would be considered a local one for you:
http://www.sandswbirmancatclub.co.uk/NEWWWEBSITE/welfare.html
or this one which is the seal and blue point club:
http://www.birmancatuk.co.uk/index.php/rescue-a-welfare
-
Looks like he must be a cross then, dont think he is a ragdoll :(
-
Gill - are Mocca and Piccola seal points??
http://www.birmancatuk.co.uk/index.php/rescue-a-welfare
-
Yes they are Edd.........wow will have to think about this cos not sure I can afford two. They would need to be insured as well cos have a huge amount to pay my vet over the next two years. And I still have one older uninsured birman that cant be reinsured.
Thanks for finding them
-
I think they are indoor cats Gill.
-
Gill - Also they don't say whether they are male or female or even where they are in the uk. Just their ages and that they are indoor cats as Rosella has said. Now I know what a sealpoint looks like - pretty gorgeous they are too :Luv2: :Luv2:
As the cat club specialise in Seals and Blues - thought it might be worth you contacting them - you could ask about them if you are interested or see if they would register you as looking for a seal point birman
-
Yes they are indoor and if they didnt want to go out that would be fine by me but just cant afford two.
Birmans often come in pairs and yes they gave no real details at all and the site is so lacking in info that have no idea where the Club is based but the cats could be anywhere and I would expect the UK cos of the transport problems.
I was hoping to email them but you cant and right I am now not up to talking on the phone.
Will just have to keep looking and I will be getting on the list of the Birman Cat Club and will be joining that if they will have me.
-
Found this out Gill:
Apparently founded in 1999. Also affiliated on the GCCF - on their site:
http://www.gccfcats.org/clubs.html
The agm was in Stokenchurch Buckinghamshire, Membership Secretary is in Sanderstead Surrey and club secretary in Southampton - so definitely UK based and probably covers the uk. Appears web site going under re-design. Shame not an e-mail enquiry form or e-mail address.
-
Hmmmm-----Beavis had better behave or I shall be getting some spray paint and Gills address - he has papers and everything!! :naughty: :evillaugh:
Seriosly tho , I can ask the lady I got my two from , she still works at my vets and may know of a seal rescue looking for a good home.
-
Thanks Edd
-
Gill, don't know if you've seen this (problem is, he's in Kent)

Without even looking at the link Sue, I saw it on Preloved yesterday and sent her a message and then found that site today and most entries are the same as Preloved.
I have asked her some serious questions cos I dont think she is a bonafide breeder. Like who are parents of her cat and what is his registration number. She has not even given his age or any details about him and if he was a runner he would be neutered straightaway.............infact would like him to go straight from Kent to my vets!
Have sent her another message today but still no reply.
His picture makes him look a bit thin especially for a stud cat and have also asked if he has any health problems.
I dont want to ring her without getting a reply first cos would hate to end up having a barney on the phone and I still get upset on phone.
If anyone sees any seal point male birmans please let me know cos they seem very hard to find, most being blue or the other lighter colours.
Thank you Sue
-
Ah, no problem Gill.
I know what you mean - some of the ads in these places are, as we see time and again, enough to make you seethe on behalf of the cat being parted with. :(
-
Definitely give that one a wide berth Gill! As you say, most 'good' breeders wouldn't be selling their stud cats via the free-ads.
-
I am only looking at birmans and many are so called breeders with kittens.
I asked about two other cats and had to chase both, one had sold and gone on holiday and the other was still there but only 4 yrs old which is far too young.
The ads make me sick but have now advertized that I am looking not that I expect to get any replies as I have said that cat must have his papers.
Yesterday I was looking at a huge list of struck off breeders, many for life and others who have infringed the GCCF/GFFC? and so many for cruelty! Not all Birman breeders, right across the breeeds I think.
-
good luck with your search Gill, I'm sure there must be someone out there waiting for you before you know it you will be tearing your hair out over the introduction lol!
-
Thank you Dawn and do hope so.
-
Hi Gill
Did you see Oliver on the Seal and Bluepoint Birman Cat Club. 6 Years old and gets on with other cats. Don't think he is a seal point - would he be a blue? But looks a little darling :Luv2:
http://www.birmancatuk.co.uk/index.php/rescue-a-welfare
-
He is a blue but doesnt really look full birman to me, Its the two 10 yr olds I love but just cant afford two, or the one on the top left of paqge........sigh
I know I am being very fussy but it does have to be a seal point and with papers.
There are pairs in the Birman cat club and on preloved........sigh
Also there is a new rescue who has been living rough for a long time but age is reckoned to be around 18/19 with possibly only a year or so to go, very very sad but already have one nearly 18yr old and juist cant cope with taking on a short term cat.
-
Male (Oscar) and female (Bella) birman for adoption at Bramcote Rescue in Nottingham:
http://www.bramcote-rescue.co.uk/adoptpage.html
Notsure what type though!!
-
Thanks Edd and have emailed them just to check but dont think either is a seal point but the picture is terrible........sigh
The back one isnt a seal and think the front one is a blue and so little info like ages!
-
Are these two girls too young Gill? http://www.pets4homes.co.uk/pets4homes/home.nsf/LookupUNID/2BDB22247172FACF80257896005CCD81 (http://www.pets4homes.co.uk/pets4homes/home.nsf/LookupUNID/2BDB22247172FACF80257896005CCD81)

Hi Jiji
This is a rehash of an advert on Preloved and there they are listed as 14 and 10 months lol
I enquired about them and One of the two does not get on with the breeders other queen..............interesting as she wants 500 for them on preloved!
She is rehoming these two cos they are the newbies, quite rightly but obviously now desperate to rehome.
Problem is I cant take a risk cos of my other 3 and she agrees.
I have to say that they also dont have the type of birman face i want, where the seal colour is like an upside down mushroom, these are new pictures.
So wonderful of you to be looking for me, thank you
Have to say that on this site they are giving very good advice about purchasing a kitten/cat and I just happen to know this lady is a breeder and these two were bought as new queens.
However she was not very forthcoming about her website abd instead of giving me a link, I had to search it twice.
She gave me information about these two cats but could not find anything about the parents.
I was also interested in two 5 year old birmans and have traced the breeder of the dam, they are gorgeous and cant stop thinking about them but they are not lap cats, must admit I am thinking of visiting although they are a long way away.
Today have enquired about another birman who is even further away but have some suspicion that this one is not a full birman and was bought possibly for illegal breeding as he is not neutered and one year old...........of course he may not enjoy the ladies
-
I have noticed on a couple of breeders sites that they sometimes say they have cats returned, have you registered your interest with any breeders?
-
Oh I havent seen that and am just starting to contact breeders, just did one who has a new advert out and her cats are related to mine.
Just finding all this so stressful :(
-
Here are links to the couple I have found who mention rehomes, don't know if they have any mushroom faced sealpoints though :) although I would have thought the more people who know you are looking in the 'birman world' the more chance you may find the perfect one or they may be able to suggest others to get in touch with.

-
Thanks for those links ;D
It seems all trails go back to the birman cat club and the rescues come up there, I havent looked today but only 3 cats one pair and a very elderly rescue who had been living rough for a long time.
They seem to go quite quick but no seal points have come up.
I havent heard from anyone I have contacted today yet.
-
Right this instant there are two cats waiting, sadly the one that is closest cant be contacted until tonight although have sent a message..............he sounds so right and is called Frankie which is the same as Franta which is Czech for Frankie!
The other is gorgeous and sounds exactly right but is in Newcastle and over 6 hrs drive away, and I have had more pictures sent to me today and he is a lapcat and sleeps in bed :Luv2:
Really could do with some luck for one of these.
-
Fingers crossed :)
-
Oh My there is one on a certain free ads site called Frankie is it the same one Gill :Luv2:
he is very very handsome
-
Oh hell nooooooooooooooooooo.
The ad I have seen is on preloved!
-
Ys that's the one i didn't think we could name the site ;)
he is really handsome
GOOD LUCK i hope you able to home him :briggin:
-
Phewwwwwwwwww I thought you meant the other site which we cant mention LOL
Thank you and have just sent another message, I so wish I could ring now!
-
I saw the one on the windowcill - Newcastle, on another site yesterday, but did not post a link as it said 9-12 months old even though was registered which looked a bit dodgy, but notice that it has the dob on this one.
-
The one in Newcastle is gccf registered and have parents names and loads more pics as sent the lady my email.
I have just spoken to the owner of Frankie who was brought from a breeder who insisted he was neutered, which is good but the ownwer has no registration papers for him but is going to contact her mother who is out in Spain as this breeder was a friend of hers.
I think he is a full birman but really want his pedigree history which goes back 4 generations and him also to be registered with gccf.
So have given the lady my phone number and email addy cos so much easier to deal out of preloved and she is hoping to get back to me tomorrow.
I do hope we can track the breeder down and hope she was not a non-registered breeder, the fact she insisted he was neutered and apparently she does not normally sell her male cats hopefully is a good sign.
-
There's now a second one on Preloved Gill but it does say on hold at the moment
-
oh sorry this ones a siamese take no notice of me
-
lol
Am still waiting to hear if access to the breeder has been made for the 5yr old.
Havent searched the ads yet today
