Title: Indie's Adventures
Post by: McKitties (Katie) on October 22, 2015, 13:50:54 PM
So it begins, as suggested, a diary of Indies Adventures!

First a couple of photographs (if I get it right, I never remember the right link to use from Photobucket!)

Indie the scaredy cat aged 4 weeks.
(http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y532/Krazykate5/image_zpsfblcxk8l.jpeg) (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/Krazykate5/media/image_zpsfblcxk8l.jpeg.html)

Indie's mum.

Going to see her next week so no doubt more photos to come!

Thanks everyone.

I'm smitten and I've not even met her yet (my OH chose her for me as wedding present!)

Her mum is tiny Dawn, she is very slight and very affectionate so I'm hoping Indie will be the same.

Can't wait to see her next week!    :Luv2:

Torture! I was demented coping with 14 sleeps!

But counting down the days on here definitely helped!

I can't wait till you get her home and can keep us updated on how she's doing.

I love sharing all my 2 boys progress on here & everyone is so supportive.

It's also the one place you're guaranteed that no-one will get bored by kitten stories & photos ;D

I don't sleep very well and I know I shouldn't but I always end up on the iPad!  :innocent:

It's lethal just now as I'm looking at lots of lovely kitty things online.  ;D

I bought this, this evening. It's to go in a particular space as we live in a small cottage, so I hope it fits!

(http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y532/Krazykate5/image_zpsidxpjsyw.jpeg) (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/Krazykate5/media/image_zpsidxpjsyw.jpeg.html)

I'm hoping that getting it now will help the dogs get used to it.

Once I test out Zooplus' new Courier that delivers this far north for free,  I'm going to start working on my shopping list!  ;D

Your comments would be very welcome!

MY SHOPPING LIST

A couple of Cabrio Litter boxes and mats (do I need liners for them?)
Oko Plus Cat Litter (I have a wee hand Hoover!)
Bozita Cat food plus some Felix pouches as its what she's going to be on when we get her.
Bowls.
Toys from the Purrs shop.
A bed for the bedroom but no doubt she'll end up on our bed!
We have already got a carrier.
Collar?
I think that's it! Or is it? Please let me know?

 :thanks:

List is great as long as it's kitten food. Indie is going to be one spoilt little cat  ;D ;D
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures
Post by: DaveD on October 27, 2015, 09:19:49 AM
Collar?
It's a bit early for a collar, but if you do decide to get one later, make sure it's a breakaway one. It can be expensive if the cat keeps losing them, but better to lose the collar than the cat.
I prefer not to have any collar, but I've put one on Lily, because she wanders quite a distance and I kept seeing her on Facebook with people asking if she was a stray, and I was worried that someone would take her in and not bother to get her checked for a microchip. That hasn't happened since she got a collar.

That photo in the sink

The wee grey kitten at the back is so cool and laid back compared to the others, cracks me up

Love the cat tree! she'll have lots of fun on that
I can see Indie is going to be spolied rotten like my pair of monsters are  :wow:

The biggest hit in my house has definitely been the play cube from purrs. They've leapt on it so may times it's now completely mishapen and I'm going to need to buy another soon  :naughty:
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on October 27, 2015, 20:47:27 PM
Great list and was gonna mention kitten food too.

Personally I dont like collars and you may find it hard to get one for a very small kitten............unless she has become very big by then  :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

Have you thought about spaying as there are different ways it can be done, the normal way usually needs a cone of shame so if that all your vets will do, one of these maybe useful!

They are soft ande stop access to the wound but give more visibilty to the wearer and make it easier to lie down.

Post by: McKitties (Katie) on October 28, 2015, 03:31:42 AM
Hi Gill

Re kitten food, Bozita do a tetra pack of kitten food, so I thought I'd get that.

Re collars, was thinking of a collar when she is much older and can get outside.

Re spaying, hope to spay as soon as vet will allow, then chip her at the same time. Those inflatable collars are fab, we have one for the dog. Where do you get them?  At what age is spaying possible, 6 months?
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures
Post by: Sue P (Paddysmum) on October 28, 2015, 07:40:12 AM
Kittyboo Collars make breakaway collars for very small cats and kittens.  I would say hold off putting her in a collar until around 12 weeks old.  Am not a fan of collars but where a cat is indoor and outdoor, some people assume any cat without a collar is a stray.  Many are not educated enough to know about, or how to check for, microchips.  Collars have twice had us reunited with cat's fatally injured.  They can have their uses.

Some vets will only spay at 6 months, but there's a growing acceptance that it can be done at 4 or 5 months, so I would have a chat with your vet.

Hoping Indie continues to do very well indeed.

Can't contain anything Slugsta, literally going out of my mind!

Thank you Pandorawarlord, let's hope you'll be getting fed up of me taking the photos soon!

How frustrating!!!

We put collars on ours initially to stop us from tripping over poor Dexter who blended in with the laminate flooring! When they started going outside though they kept loosing them and I got sick of buying new ones  >:(

For post spay, most vets dont seem to bother with a collar/ cone post op. Only if the cat is picking at the wound. I would wait and see what they advise.

Hi Pandorawarlord

Yes I know this is normally the case but I think perhaps you don't know the history of this unfortunate little kitten. Please have a look at 'fading kitten syndrome' in the members only area of the forum and all will make sense.

My thinking was that kitten food generally has more protein and as Indie is tiny she might need it!  :scared:
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures
Post by: Mark on November 10, 2015, 21:30:27 PM
I'm pretty sure kitten food has more protein, as well as calcium and phosphorus for growing bones - although having said that,  kitten food is quite a new thing, so as long as they are eating well, it doesn't matter if they eat a mix.

My vet will spay at 5 months, but since Bob was 'done' 5 months ago it has gone up a whopping £20.00, it was £60 for Bob and will be £80.00 for Pippa, it would be £88 apart from the fact I decided to put her on their 'Pet Plan' which covers all her flea and worming treatments and give a 10% discount on the spay! I would look around, but they are the best vets in the area! They put a collar on Bob for the first night, but her stitches were invisible ones that dissolved and didn't need to be removed. She was just confined to barracks for a few days so she didn't jump and burst them.

I have given up on kitten food, Pip preferred GILF and the older two ate the kitten food, Pip is growing well and putting on about 130 grams a week so I don't know that it makes much difference, she was a very ill little feral when Sheila rescued her so she didn't have a good start either.
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures
Post by: Sue P (Paddysmum) on November 11, 2015, 07:29:16 AM
Popping by to say try not to worry too much Katie.   Just keep plodding away until the 8 weeks is up - it's drawing nearer with each passing day.

And I agree - kitten food is great for growing kittens, but kittens were getting by on "adult food" for long enough without too many difficulties.

It may be that Indie will always be a tiny girl.  We thought from the size of Moray's paws, he'd grow to be a biiiiiig cat, but bless him, he's only small - probably a legacy of his poor start, but also probably genetic.

Whilst he undoubtedly has NFC in his ancestry, he's small but perfectly formed.  Am sure Indie will be the same.  :Luv:

I too thought Lupin would be a big birman cos they dont mature until 4 years and at 10 months he was a chunky 4kg but at 5 years he is only 4,3kg and very long but lost all his baby fat and is just a long muscular fighting machine!

she's it such a poppet  :Luv:  It's a tricky one because, as Sue says, you don't want to do anything to upset the owner or prevent Indie coming to you as soon as possible but I bet you can't wait to get her into your care so that you can lavish her with love and attention and give her the care she deserves.
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures

Some good news!!  ;D

My OH went in past the owners house and persuaded her to let me have Indie a few days earlier. So we are picking her up next Friday morning!

That's 9 sleeps!!!!

My OH said she has grown lots, her skin was all clean and healthy and her eyes too. She was running about and sitting cleaning herself. She spontaneously used the litter tray right in front of her.
She is eating adult cat dried food and kitten milk but I can change that.

She is apparently very affectionate and loves cuddling up to the dog!

Can anyone suggest how I go about changing from the dry food to my chosen wet food? I have the feeling that dry food at 7 weeks old isn't a good idea??

The light is at the end of the tunnel!  ;D

That's great news Katie.  ;D.

As to food I'd introduce one small dish of wet kitten food per day to begin with.  If her tum is okay you can up this to two small dishes until  gradually you're giving her three to four small wet meals daily.

Post by: McKitties (Katie) on November 11, 2015, 19:47:36 PM
Just asked and she's apparently eating loads! Making up for the early days!

She's eating Felix Kitten wet food twice a day and whiskas cat biscuits soaked in Beaphar Kitten milk in between.

Shall I half n half the Felix with the Bozita Kitten as a start for one meal, then two, then three?

I feel like I'm bringing a baby home. You guys will have to be my Health Visitors! :naughty:

I'd be inclined to carry on feeding the same at first, but gradually stop the milk and put down water separately. That way, there's always food if she needs it, and you can concentrate on changing the wet food, again gradually, to a brand you prefer.

Thanks. Without the car it is so difficult getting anywhere. I could really do with it now. Not to worry, something always comes along. And more photos needed of Indie as soon as. I always wanted to call a tortie Indie. My Gracie is a tortie. She came from the cats protection and I wanted to call her Indie. She had the name Grace which I didn't like. But she managed to hang onto her name and refused to be an Indie. Now I love the name Grace.

Names definitely grow on you. Grace is lovely, very elegant!

We asked our friends on Facebook for suggestions. We had lots of suggestions to do with our honeymoon....Vegas, Dion (we went to see Celine Dion in concert) Chip, Dollar, there were loads of common cat ones too. But we went to an Indian settlement in the States so Indie came up and just seemed right.

Can't wait to see her. My OH is going to kill me tomorrow cos I've just been on Zooplus and had a wee spend. Made the mistake of looking at the dog stuff too!  :evillaugh:

Are you sure it was a wee spend and not a large spend?  ;)

As far as I know, vaccinations are usually given at 9 and 12 weeks.  worming should be monthly I think up to 6 months?  then 3 monthly.

She has probably been using Panacur as a wormer. For kittens its a dose a day for 3 days.

I like the name Indie, she suits it!

I found wet wipes really useful when they were kittens and still use them now. I got the natural non scented baby wipes. Plus teatree oil or an antiseptic for all the scratches you get on your arms and legs and in my case nose. Plenty of long sleeved tops to hid all the scratches.

Just think.....this time tomorrow you'll be heading off to collect her  :wow:

Definitely get something for scratches. I'm absolutely covered in them. Doesn't help that Chester has recently started climbing me like I'm a tree

My two love little things to bat around too. Especially the little foil crinkle balls. Like Sue said, they disappear constantly though! We go round the house several times a day getting them out of all the nooks and crannies. Which is very exciting for the boys as it means they can get to work on losing them all again

Yip all sorted with antibacterial pump wash, wipes, toys, fleece blankets, scalpel, scissors, body suit etc.  ;D

Ok, claw trimming, got that, but not on the first day, I used to do the ratties so not too worried about that ;)

One last question........did anybody block off areas with cardboard , ie behind tv, under units etc. She's so tiddly, I'm scared we'll lose her along with the ping pong balls and she'll get stuck!!!  :scared:

When I moved into this house 7 years ago, Bramble found a gap that allowed her access to underneath the kitchen units, so I blocked that off, otherwise I let the cats have the run of the place. One thing to watch out for is electrical cable. Some cats love to chew on it, others ignore it. Best not to leave a cat overnight where there's easy to access cable, especially if it's plugged in, until you find out what sort of cat you have.
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on November 19, 2015, 17:46:01 PM
Yes you need to block off anywhere she can get under, into etc

My first cat Kocka was a normal size cat so not big and she understood VETS and would hide.

One day couldnt find her at all and had to cancel appt. I knew she was in house cos flap was blocked off............in those days you had a section to slide in which totally blocked it.

I was sitting on the sofa think where can she be and my eye caught the cupboard, it had about 3 inch gap underneath and thought noooooooooooooo but better check. Torch out and on hand and knees, yesssssssssssssssss that where she was!

prepare for anything!

When Jaffa and Magpie were kittens (8 weeks when they came to me) they spent most of their time playing with each other and chasing each other around the flat then stopping for a sleep.  They were lively but fairly easy to raise and I don't recall many dramas.  Magpie used to steal washing up items (dishcloth, scrubber etc.) and hide them under the bed, but apart from that...  :innocent:    Mosi was the most hyperactive kitten ever.  He was hard work.  hardly slept at all, into everything, knocking everything over, wanting constant attention and mithering poor Jaffa to play.  He spent every night running around, climbing into and on top of everything, making a noise and it was so hard to tire him out.  He really didn't calm down at all until 5 or 6.  I braced myself when I got Kito as I was expecting the same with him being a Somali too.  What I got was a sweet natured, polite and well behaved kitten.  Lively of course at times because he's a kitten but he slept a fair bit and really was easy to look after.  He has now turned into a bit of a teenage tearaway (he's 10 months) and is much livelier and demanding now but still a pretty easy going lad.  And he still sleeps at night  ;D

They are all different - no knowing what you will get!
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures
Post by: McKitties (Katie) on November 19, 2015, 19:37:42 PM
Ooooh it's quite exciting, not knowing what you're going to get ;)

Have reserved a large long cardboard box from Zooplus for gap filling so that will be my job after tea!

Think the worst, think the worst, think the worst, think the worst............and it'll be all good!

To be honest, the biggest thing I'm worried about is our loopy Labrador. I don't think she'd intentionally hurt Indie, in fact I think she might be scared of her! But we haven't really a room for Indie to start off in, on her own as the lounge and kitchen are more or less open plan and the dogs sleep in the bedroom too. There's just too big a space to get lost in the eaves upstairs as its a converted attic. I'm hoping because Indie has already befriended a dog she mightn't be too frightened.

Oh another question, is the litter box ok round the corner in the kitchen or should I bring it right into the lounge? She apparently uses one no bother but I don't know if it's in her living room. God, I sound like a worried mother!!

Also, do you think I should just have her in the bedroom at night with us all too? I have another litter box.

Well I suppose there's only one way to find out...............

Ps. Did you see that big random pulling out hair emoticon in my post just there Gil /Carol, it's not even on my choices so I don't know how it got there!!!

I've forgotten what my house looks like without cardboard ;D

We would've had a nightmare without it, they get EVERYWHERE!

The tv unit is the main issue in our place because of all the cables behind it. We blocked the front of it at first, then we removed the cardboard. OMG. So we've plugged gaps with DVDs to try & stop them climbing in, we've been gradually removing them....then I got cocky last night & commented on how they'd lost interest in it....guess what the monsters have spent all night clambering in and out of? :-[

We also blocked the gap behind our fridge as I had a kitten wedge himself behind my fridge years ago.

My boys tray has been in the kitchen since day 1 & they've had no problems making their way back to it from all over the house. They used it within 30 minutes of getting here & have been great since.

The fosterer gave me a tiny amount of their soiled litter to put in it, so might be worth doing that.

I think your dog will be fine, our dog growing up was a clumsy, excitable dafty, but he just knew instinctively to be gentle with kittens.

You're as prepared as you possibly can be & you'll be a fab mum ;D Cant wait to compare notes!

We should have playdates like people with Holman babies do...Indie can play with my boys....we can drink bubbly ;D ;D

What icon lol

I think where ever you want the litter tray she will find it.

I have one in the bedroom so if you are going to let her go in there that will be a good idea.

There say one tray for every cat plus one, I now have 3 for 3 cats and one is used by them all and the othet two by Sasa!

I did have more but dumped the ones not used.

Its sooooooooooooo close now getting very excited  ;D ;D

There's only one sleep to go,
Only one more sleep to go.
Then tomorrow don't you know
Indie will come to stay,
How quickly the time will go
When with her you will  play   :briggin:

You're up Sue and no doubt worried sick about your boy.

Thank you for remembering about Indie, I've been awake since 6 and tossing and turning all night. I have also just been chasing Staffa our young lab round the lounge for a carrier bag he stole from the bedroom! I think we're going to have fun and games. More chaos in
the mad house.

Hope to see positive news of Moray later. x

so excited for you  :yayyy:

As far as having her in the bedroom with you I think you need to start as you mean to go on.  If you want her to have access to your bedroom permanently then let her in but if not settle her down where you want her to sleep.  You may need to sleep in her room with her the first night as she'll be used to having someone to snuggle up to at night.  I spent Kito's first 2  nights on the sofa with him.  Very uncomfortable for me but Kito snuggled up to me and slept all night.  That was mainly because Mosi was poorly and I didn't want to introduce them that early otherwise I'd have let him into the bedroom from the start.  Mosi spent his first night in bed with me tucked up under my chin (probably the only night he slept all night for years!)

She's here!!!  ;D ;D ;D .......and all she's done is sleep!

She's slept since we picked her up 2 hours ago! The woman said she is a really deep sleeper and right enough she didn't even flinch when the dogs barked coming in the door or when we weighed her!!  :shify:

She seems really tiny for 8 weeks and was noticeably slight compared to her brother. However we got a good chance to see mum cat this time who is a really small cat.

The dogs have come to say hello and got a lot of fuss. Pugsey the Jack Russell has been over several times to have a sniff but Staffa the lab has had a look but is more interested in biscuits!

I'm just sitting with her on my lap and totally in love already!  :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:

I don't think I'll do anything all day  ;D

Thank you everybody!   ;D

What a change in the last couple of hours, Indie has been walking about a bit getting to know the place (and she has used the litter box twice!) the dogs have been following her everywhere. Staffa has been trying to play with her with his long gangly legs. Every time he puts his head down to her level she head butts him and rubs up his cheeks. So sweet to watch. As we thought though, he's playing with her toys!! See below!

You'll love this Nicola....tried her with her usual food at lunchtime and she wouldn't eat it!!!

The dog is now running round with a ball of wool and Indie is wrapped round my neck watching him like an owl, he's completely nuts.

Feet up, time for kitten therapy and a cup of tea.  ;D

Post by: McKitties (Katie) on November 21, 2015, 02:26:12 AM
Well thanks for your lovely messages folks. We got her in the end and yes, life is definitely never going to be the same again.
She is small (470g) and very boney (is that normal?) but she has energy, is peeing and pooing and ate a small bowl of Felix Kitten and a bowl of kitten milk tonight so I'm not too worried. She has been wormed three times and is booked to go to the vet a week Monday so I think that's ok is it?! Do we have to do flee treatment? Ive had a good look at her all over and can't see anything ;D

I'm amazed, she already knows how to walk from the living room to the kitchen to find her litter box and then climb in like she's on an assault course and leap out like she's parachuting! Clever cookie.  :Luv:
We have had one mishap whilst we were having tea, when she climbed under the TV unit (how can a cat with that sized head fit under such a small gap?!) and did a whoopsie in the corner! That was a "she's your kitten, you clean it up" moment. Ha, ha.

Sorry, see, I said I would bore you with every detail. Newbie cat owner syndrome!  :innocent:

She has discovered a free and 'on tap' toy........Staffas tail, and being a lab it goes constantly. He's so good though as she tries to leap for it from under the coffee table. I just love it when she rubs up his legs too as if he's a hooman. Pugsey has decided he's to old for this lark and he's going to ignore her, as if to say "I hope that thing isn't staying" it's really funny, he's a rough haired Jack russell and has very furry feet. Indie thinks it's great fun jumping for the straggly bits on the way past! I'm not sure old Pug agrees  :scared:

Cuddling into your neck or upper chest seems to be her thing, she won't even go near her gorgeous bed I bought her! She cries when she's tired just like a baby! She sleeps nearly all the time with half hour spurts to tire herself out again. The day has gone so fast, you're right Gill, I'll be to busy to do anything else. I suppose it is a bit extra work with the dogs as you have to supervise all the time, especially with Staffas big feet and him bouncing about desperate to play. He got so excited earlier when Indie ran out into the hall for the first time, he tripped me up and I dropped a glass of red wine and it smashed all over the floor! It was like something out of a comedy sketch. Indie ran behind the sofa, I  :censored: :censored: at the dog and threw him outside and proceeded to pick up all the glass and wipe down the walls. Because we have flagstone floors the glass and wine had gone everywhere. Indie just peeped round the corner from the sofa wondering what all the fuss was about! What a waste of wine!!

Well it's late and my little pal is out cold snoozing between our two pillows. Goodness knows when she'll wake up, I hope I hear her because our bed is high and her other litter box is in our bathroom and she doesn't know how to get there! Mummy worries again, I don't think I was this bad when I took the kids home when they were babies! Well that's enough for one day, thanks for listening.

Here's to Indies next adventure.......................em, hold on, 'out cold' , take that back, I just heard Indie drop off the other side of the bed, my OH woke with a start, picked her up, Indie pooed down her front and swiftly ended up in the litter box to finish off with my OH marching about the bedroom saying what a  :censored: stink! You've no idea how hard I tried not to laugh. It's gonna be a long night, Indie is marching all over the bed like she owns the place now! She purrs so loud, I love it!  :Luv2:

I love Pugsey and Staffa and it looks like they are all gonna be one big happy family   It has brought back lovely memories of when I had a cat and a dog when I was in my 20s, they loved to cuddle up on the settee together  :Luv2:

So lovely to hear about her settling in!
Enjoy her sleeping on you, best feeling in the world, Chesters started sleeping on me for a bit & then using his bed, but I'd rather he stayed on top of me constantly ;D

I laughed at the wine incident, I did it too a couple of weeks ago! We've reluctantly started using plastic wine glasses as glass is just a recipe for disaster around the monsters. Embarrassing, but less stressful :-[

Can't wait to hear more, reading your post has lifted my spirits tonight x

Very frustrated tonight. Have spent ages during the day, off and on writing an update about the fun (?) and games since yesterday. I also wrote a PM to you Nic to give you some support with Chester. Definitely pressed post and send and they have both completely disappeared.  :censored: :censored: :censored:
I've also now got strange photos popping up randomly and icons too. Very annoying....was off to put an annoyed face and it's now missing from above. Aaaarrrgghh! Pass the Prosecco!

How to put my previous post in a nutshell?
Erm, hardly any sleep overnight, Indie sh*t all over the duvet, me and herself at 4am. A Mrs & Mrs Q sense of humour failure and Indie spent some of the night in her carrier! Which to be honest I thought was a better idea anyway, but the owner insisted she slept under the duvet. I thought she was just too tiny for that so she was sleeping between our pillows. Bad move, we live and learn. She was awfully soft and cute to watch though  ;)
I think we offered her too much milk the day before. Do you think she still needs kitten milk? She only stopped bottles of it on Wednesday, stupid owner woman. She's eating fine but very bitty. She does seem really hungry. She cries for food every time she wakes up and paces up and down, OK, not actually paces, but probably more 'patters'! Do we just feed her? Scared she gets over fed and gets more diarrhoea. I'm not worried about her diarrhoea (yet!) cos she must be stressed and it's all new.

Indies bolder today, she's negotiating Staffas legs and nosing round the place. She loves the Frenzy toy and a wee ball of newspaper and loves the wee white fish light too. Saying that, she only plays for 5-10 mins and she's asleep. Trying to train her to go in her wee cosy bed beside me instead of sleeping round my neck. Don't get me wrong it's lovely, but then you sit there like you cant do anything and your OH has to do everything. That's lovely too mind you! ;) But you sit there don't you, like you can't move your neck and it's so much easier to move her when she's in her bed too! Well I put a couple of pieces of dry food in there when she was tired with my arm beside her and she fell asleep and she's just jumped in there just now and is all curled up, so far so good!

All advice and suggestions very welcome! Off to read how all you guys are and your poorly kitties x

Personally I would stop the kitten milk could be that causing her stomach probs but you must keep a close eye on her cos her stomach should not be upset and she will go down hill very quickly. Also the goodness from her food will not be getting into her body. Start getting her to drink it watered down gradually changing over to water.

A bit worried that she is sleeping so much but other kitten people will know more.

Feed little and often which sounds like what she is making you do lol.

Keep an eye on how much food she is eating.................think it shouldnt be more than 3 or 4 pouches a day depending what they say on the label and thats loads and loads for a very small kitten and probably too much.

Its so frustrating when posts go poof,,,,,,,,we all have been there!

Ipad is your problem cos seems that others with ipads have same problem as you.

Its lovely to have a proper lap cat but you pay the penalty for their love  ;D ;D

I dont have one any more and Napoleon used to lie with his head on my typing arm and gaze with his blue eyes into mine  :Luv2: :Luv2:

I would stop the milk too. 3 pkts of kitten food and some crunchies is plenty. Astrophe and Zoonie were fed 3 pkts a day each in 6 meals, half a pkt each per meal.
They would play for a couple of hours then sleep for four hours. I always fed them at bedtime so they had a full tum and would sleep.

Hi Andrew ( it is Andrew isn't it? my memory!)

Yeh, have decided to stop the milk. She eats nothing like you mentioned though. She hasn't even finished a Felix pouch since yesterday and that's leaving her in peace, no dogs, no distractions and she still leaves some. I'm wondering whether if we left her a longer period of time she might eat more?? Then again, little and often would probably mount up to the same amount. Oh all these decisions!

As I said she plays for a maximum of 10 mins and she then snoozes for up to two hours.

I'll tell you something, she's taken up the whole day though, I've hardly stopped!

The most important piece of advice I can think of is that the woman you refer to as the owner isn't, not any more. She has no say any more. You do. In your place, I'd take advice from the vet, in the first place, and from people here who can give you a variety of options for any problems that arise.
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures
Post by: Sue P (Paddysmum) on November 22, 2015, 07:16:25 AM
Kittens do sleep a lot Katie but sounds like Indie' s needing more than most.  We've always taken our kittens for an initial kitten check at our vet, and its invaluable for many reasons.  It would give you a good opportunity to discuss your concerns and get advice on how to build her up, and address the trotty bot issues.

How much you want Indie to love on you can be determined by you at this stage, just gently disengaging her or distracting her.  But me - I'd take it all - am greedy for kitten love.    :evillaugh:
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures
Post by: McKitties (Katie) on November 22, 2015, 07:54:40 AM
Thank you, you're so right Dave. I'm just trying to more or less copy what she did so that Indie will settle in.

Better night last night Sue, she slept 12-6 and was starving this morning, had a 'trotty botty' (liked that one) but in her box this time! Had a play and is sound asleep. Don't get me wrong about cuddles, just can't see the neck thing working when she's older but I suppose she wants to be up high for security. She is so affectionate cuddling up on the sofa, just a nice option to be able to pop her in her bed sometimes!

Hopping over to see what kind off night you've had with Moray, you must be so worried. Great news for your new arrivals though, sounds like good progress. X
Title: Re: Indie's Adventures

:)  Katie, as she gets older, you may find the strong need for "reassurance affection" reduces.  Ross, from being a kitten, used to suckle on my right ear lobe.   As he transitioned into an adult, it grew less frequent, but when he was particularly tired, or if he was anxious about something, he would still do it as he grew - it was like his security blanket, I think.

I've often said, since we lost him to the road, that my right earlobe gets lonely.   :shy:

Everything is going to be really strange and new to Indie, a change of home, leaving behind her brother, and with new territory to explore, discover and make her own, and she's coping with things quite well, but clearly you're her blankie.   ;)

I think you're doing the right thing with her though - you can just pop her in her bed when you need to, and she should come to accept that.

So glad last night was a better night.   :)

I would stop the kitten milk too.

Cats and kittens can get dire rear when they are moved to a new place as it is stressful for them but if it persists I would take her to the vet for a check up given how quickly kittens can get dehydrated.

It varies how much they sleep.  Kittens, in general, do play hard and sleep hard.  as I think i've mentioned before, Mosi hardly slept at all.  Kito on the other hand slept most of the first full day I had him then played a bit more but still seemed to sleep a lot.  He sleeps less now that he's bigger.

Thanks for the reassurance and the benefit of your experience folks.

Indie's doing really well today. Falling asleep on me, on my kitten shelf, (bigger busted ladies will know where I mean! ;)) then if I've something to do, (which I try not to have!) I pop her into her bed with her own little fleecy blankie that my mum brought today. She loves it and kneeds it with her paws. She is so teeny and beautiful I could watch her forever..........and Sue, she was suckling my left earlobe this afternoon, I couldn't believe that after you mentioning it!  :Luv2:

She's eating much better now that the milk is out of the way and drinking more water too. We have better poos too so I'm convinced it was the milk.

She has also found her hierarchy position as far as feeding time goes! "You WILL wait til I'm finished!"

Still learning, Indie pooed all over her bed last night and had to have a shallow bath this morning, exhausting stuff for a teeny lady. I had a hospital appointment which meant we were away nearly two hours and she was in exactly the same position when we got back!

You mentioned our flooring, it's so funny, I put the same photo on Facebook and more people mentioned about the flooring than they did about Indie!
I'm not kidding, the man that laid it said, 'yer goin to have an awful job gettin all that ink off ye know' and he meant it.

She is just so tiny, precious girl  :Luv2:

Hope you get on top of the runny bum, hopefully it's just being in a new home.
And we need more pics, you're a photographer, you have no excuses

Surely there must be more to life than kitten poo watch. Poor Nic, you must be demented with worry with your boy.

Thankfully my only concern is Indie standing in it or dipping her tail in it, then either walking it all over the kitchen or scrambling up my tshirt. Most unpleasant.

FYI, mixed consistency today, loose in the morning more formed at night.  :evillaugh:
While we're on the subject, that Okoplus litter is great. Clumps really well, no odour between poo parcels and hardly any tracking but I imagine that will increase with a bigger cat. We have a cordless Dyson for the kitchen but the suction is so strong that you have to watch you don't suck Indie up the tube as well!

Thank you to whoever said to get wipes. We now have a fine art of wipes, nappy bags and anti bac gel. I feel like someone off that Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners programme. I'll be getting out my microbe meter soon and testing my kitchen floor!

This is Miss Tortie Pants just having woken up.

Indie and Staffa have bonded, well as you can see by his face, he didn't have much choice in the matter. The only trouble is she gets clobbered when he decides to get up and go somewhere else. Sorry for the rubbishy photos, I'm so lazy, I just use my phone. This one is very grainy as I lightened it a bit.

Oh my, she is just gorgeous!!! i agree with Gill, I think she's going to be long haired based on that furry wee chest  :Luv2:

Oh, been there, done that. The other night, Chester got it all down his legs and paws and then got away from me. he made it through three rooms and across the coffee table before I caught him. I also picked him up for a cuddle one night and realised I'd ended up with a smear of poo across the front of my top. Unfortunately, he'd fallen asleep on me by that point so I just sat there....covered in poo

Good sign that things are firming up a bit, I'd just speak to your vet about it when you take her in

Lovely! All your comments made me laugh this morning. Oh and Andrew thanks for the advice!

I felt like that Sue when I was standing in the kitchen like a zombie this morning willing Indie to eat faster!

Madam has discovered running this morning, which is quite a hazardous occupation as her new friend Staffa wants to join in. It's so sweet hearing her wee feet pattering along, she has developed the skill of swiping things hanging down on the way past. She nearly came a cropper on an iPhone cable earlier...not to self, change socket for charging!

She is now snuggled under the duvet beside me.......well if you can't beat them join them!  ;D

I have to admit to experiencing a completely new poo phenomena yesterday, and where else would I share it but here?

So picture the scene, me and OH are on the sofa watching tv, I am snuggled up with my wool blanket on my legs and having pudding (warm mince pie from the local butchers oddly, home made and delicious!). Zarny goes to the corner tray to do her duty and after some burying comes over for attention. She jumps up at my knee and theres a small thud sound. And oh look, a small bit of poo on the floor. She looks at in in amazement, where ha  that come from! Sniffs it, looks at me revolted 'You have poo on the floor!!!' oh the joys on long fluffy trousers, a small piece had got stuck in all that fluff  no wonder I never have people round

Arent all of these poo stories just the best?  :evillaugh:

Zarny's rapid assessment of the situation and the quantum-lightning shift of blame on to your shoulders Jen just takes the biscuit.

Katie - am so envious.  Would love to be curled up with a tittentat or three right now.   ;)

Well Jen, Zarny is far from alone in the Klingon department. Marmalade regularly suffers the humiliation of a poop dangler. On occasion, she attempts to remove said accessory by scooting around the floor. This merely adds to the hilarity of the situation since her long furs hide her feet and she looks like someone is pulling her along on a string!!!

The remedy is rarely as simple as said dangler dropping off for her,  but she must suffer the added indignity of having her a*+e combed!

Oh god, dangling poop. Bailey had that occasionally with him being so long haired.
We knew before we saw him as he'd come through his catflap wailing with the indignity of it.
Then he'd insistently present his bum to me for it to be removed.
He always managed to make me feel like it was my fault

Hi folks, sorry for worrying you but I've not been myself for a few days.
I have been lurking and popping the odd auction bid on though.  ;)

I actually have Bipolar Disorder and recently my mood has been declining so I had to put the brakes on and go and get some help. I sometimes don't deal with stress and life events very well and it impacts on my illness so there has to be a bit of medication juggling to get me back on track. I'm meant to rest but that's like asking tigger to stop bouncing!!

Well all my bounce has gone for now but there have been a couple of things that have kept me going over the last few days. One, my little Indie the cuddle monster and two, you guys! No, I'm not kidding. When I'm unwell I don't tend to have people round, so keeping up with your threads has passed the time and given me some company. So thank you.  ;D

I have some photos to put up (classy quality phone ones again Andrew) so I'll go and adjust them in Photobucket.

Yes this place keeps us all slightly sane but I would stay away from the auction cos thats as stressful as hell  :-[ :-[

Its gonna get worse over the next week toooooooooooooo!!

So pleased that Indie is looking after you and we are up for world class pics from a mobile

Hoping your bounce is back soon

I dare say there's quite a few people here with depression, myself included. Mine isn't as strictly delineated as bipolar, but I get similar mood swings, and sometimes can't be bothered with anything, so you're not alone.

Thanks for caring everyone. Just a blip, will get there once the new meds eventually kick in.  :shy:

Indie is doing great. More confident every day, or should that be more 'crazy' every day!

She is now on one third Felix and two thirds Bozita which is going down very well so far. She drinks water too. Solid little sausages coming out the other end (well I couldn't go without mentioning the poo subject could I?) She also seems to have mastered the skill of not stepping in it either so that's always a bonus!

On her adventures she has discovered the book case, the window seat and more concerningly, under the wood burner which by the end of the night is warm but not sure what we're going to do when it's roasting after we light it??!! Her cat tree is still too big for her but she loves being on one of the platforms surveying her estate! I'm starting to see that with maturity comes confidence and with confidence comes mischief!

I love the fact she knows her name. You can shout on her at one end of the house and she comes scampering through like the cavalry. It also still amazes me how she knows both litter boxes now too. We were cuddled up in bed this afternoon and she jumped down and ran through to the bathroom, used her box and ran back meowing to get back up to resume cuddles. Proud mummy.  ;)

Aw Gill you're such a softy, thank you. I was needing it small enough as my signature. I tried to find another smaller one instead. All my work Photoshop is in the office so I'm stuck with this iPad.

I haven't even looked at the other one I just put on, I'm just fiddling about cos I can't sleep, that's with sleeping tablets! Think they'll need a mallet instead.
