Ela, I know it's a little out of your area but Alfreton Park have an out of hours service and have always been reasonable. I know it's asking an awful lot of the fosterers/volunteers but maybe it's worth a few extra miles, even if you have to reimburse for fuel.

The vets are lovely there too.

Small claims?

We have been down that route before it is usually like throwing good money after bad.

I am seriously considering changing to a 24hr vet so I never have to risk using them. [/quote

Trouble  is Mark that many vets are gradually going over to Vets Now. The two vets that do their own 24/7 cover in our town I would not take a dying flea.

Ir is not as if they had an initial huge outlay as mosy usually use such clinincs as PDSA clinics when they close.

I accept that it costs more to run a 24hr surgery but that is robbery and should have been no more than £150.00 - I am even more amazed that they can charge a charity that kind of money. I am seriously considering changing to a 24hr vet so I never have to risk using them.

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

Vets Now - high fees!

We have just received a bill from Vets Now for a cat we authorised  to be re-stitched as the owner had no funds, she agreed that she would to pay us back weekly. Now job done she will not pay a penny. When this happens at our own vet they have to sign a document, but it is difficult with Vets Now.  They kept the cat  in for the rest of the night, re-stitched, bangaged, gave her an injection and some antibiotics.  I nearly dropped ofF my chair when our Treasurer told me yesterday how much, it was almost £400.

Last night it was necessary for one of the Fosterers to take a cat to the vets, she rang Vets Now a few times and was immediately cut off when connected then on 3 occasions each time a voice answered to try later as they were busy. In the end she rang me in tears so  I phoned Eric our own vet  (he was at a party) and he left immediately and went to the surgery to meet Donna. I just wish our vets did not use Vets Now but they just cannot get the vets to work nights.
