Title: PayPal
Post by: Corporal Smokey on November 01, 2007, 10:14:20 AM
Hiya. I have a Paypal and eBay account of my own but I was wondering how easy it is to get one of each for our shelter.

Obviously being a lowly volunteer I don't have access to financial details but I want to help the lady in charge. I've done some eBaying through Missionfish but they do take a largish cut when you're only selling DVDs and stuff.

Anyone good on this? Do I just register on eBay under a different username?

Help greatly appreciated!  ;D

You do not need ebay to register paypal accounts, paypal used to independent until ebay bought them and many people use paypal without ebay at all

Yeah, that's a good point hOrZa, thanks for the advice!

I can probably set up an eBay account without needing financial gubbins and the PayPal stuff should be fairly self-explanatory for the boss-lady to do.

Yes Horza is right and Paypal works fine without ebay  ;D

You can set up different sorts of accounts, and you need to consider how you want to use it but their instructions are quite good and also they have a help number and when I used it last year the lady was really helpful and aided me to get around having more than one account with them and some probs I was having.

I think you have to put your address on to register and if you do have another account, it helps to spell say your road or something different, say Road or Rd, Avenue or Ave etc. If you have two email addresses that also helps  ;D

I run our set up for the ebay / missionfish / paypal stuff so if you want any advice feel free to drop a line.

Wud defo recommend that you get the boss lady to register the charity / branch with Missionfish and add you as a direct seller.  More benefits that way... and an extra bit of cash for the charity.

Yeah, I've done stuff using just CP's national Mssionfish jobby to see how easy it is but (and sorry if this sounds really selfish) I'd like to see some of the funds come directly to the cats at our shelter.

I know how much the vet's bills have been recently and it's horrific compared to what comes in, although CP HQ have been great. As you may have seen from other posts, most of our cats are sick and elderly and I'm on a bit of a mission!

don't know how CP work... do you not have a bank account for your branch???  if so, just set up a new missionfish acct for the branch???  no???  would have thought you could???

All you need is the bank details and a copy of the pay in slip to send to them if I remember correctly from setting ours up.

Also, if you do sign up with them you can request a reduction in fees from Paypal for being a charity.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers

Sarah

If I remember rightly... once you register with Missionfish you will get details of how to contact Paypal.  You have to email them including certain info about the charity and then once approved you get a mail back to say that your fee's are discounted to x%
