He is currently chasing a big spider, I'd say he's on the mend. He certainly is a fighter!

The vets have just called, he’s perked up quite a bit. I could hear him meowing in the background!

(Sorry - TMI) He’s formed solid poop and isn’t throwing up anymore. He still hasn’t eaten properly but is happy being syringe fed. She think he should go back to normal at home. She’s going to give us some special food for him to try for a bit. I should be picking him up afterwoork, but I’m going to ring later on this afternoon just in case anything’s changed. They are going to keep trying to feed him in the meantime. Fingers crossed!

Well he's now at the hospital. He looked a lot more active than this morning, but still hadn't eaten. They are going to try him with an appetite stimulant to see if that helps. I took him some dreamies to see If that helps. I also took him Mr Lion to keep him company. Fingers crossed for good news in the morning.

Thanks for that Gill, I'll keep a close eye on it. He has been showing intrest in food, so I'm hoping he'll go back to normal easily. He has been eating a tiny bit (a few multi vitamin treats), but it's not enough. They've been trying to feed him at the vets all day. Going to call for an update in a bit, fingers crossed that he's had something.

I'm so worried about the little blighter.

I hope they keep on trying to feed him little and often cos the drip rehydrates but does not feed. I always thoiught it did but found this out when Napoleon was in hospital and after nearly a month, much time on a drip and on meds etc he had been refusing to eat. Because of the staff changes every day the message was always given to me that he was eating a little but one lick is not eating and think the staff did not totally realize he was not eating.

They get out of the habit so quickly and it needs to be sorted very early on because after a time like with Napoleon it becomes too late........sorry not trying to scare you but its so important for them to eat again asap.

They’ve just called with the results. Nothing too major, his kidneys are fine and his pancreas is normal, but he is dehydrated so they are putting him on a drip. He’s going to have to stay in the animal hospital in Hartford tonight and then they’ll see how he is tomorrow. Please keep your fingers crossed for him.

The V-E-T gave him the once over, poor little thing kept trying to escape off her table. He wasn’t at all sloshy anymore. She said that she could feel a hard poop in him, so that’s got to be a good sign. He’s still hydrated at the mo, but they wanted to keep him in so that they could try feeding him throughout the day and then when the blood tests come in they can start treatment right way if he needs anything else. Poor little Maru Face. Going to ring up for a bit for an update.

So far he's turned his nose up at cooked chicken, felix, some dry food and some licky treaty goo stuff. He however has eaten a few vitamin treats, which is better than nothing. He's had a poorly tummy but there is no evidence of it is his tray, only on his fur and a little on our bedding.

Fingers crossed that he's hungery and feeling better in the morning.

Gastroenteritis is a bit of a generic term with many different causes so impossible to say how long it might take for him to fully recover. Hope for his sake it's a simple bug and the antibiotics do the trick.

I would defo claim on the insurance, it'll be classed as a pre-existing condition from now on in whether you claim or not so you may as well get what you're paying for!

I did a scientific test last year - I claimed for Riley (similar thing to Akamaru but it went on for ages and he got seen lots of times including being hospitalaised and an out of hours appt so cost loads) but not Lu as I think Lu only got seen twice so it wasn't much over the excess. Both boys are obviously same age, same sex, same postcode, been with them the same length of time. When the renewals came through they had both been raised by the same amount which was literally pennies.

Definately claim.

It maybe a good idea to ask your vet if Hills Gastro-intestinal pouches would help him to settle and probably if so a pck of 12 plus the abs he is getting may do the trick. They are very acceptable to cats especially hungry ones.

They have done wonders for Lupin but he is very sensitive to all food it seems and has been on them since mid to late July although now he is also having other food but cant tollerate the normal ones.

Oh right! It might be worth me doing it then as that's why I'm paying for it.

I'll wait until the blood test result though as he might need more treatment if that shows anything up.

I just hope he feels better soon and that it isn't anything serious.

Star had a dental on her insurance over £300 and Amber has never had a claim and both of the insurance premiums are the same so it shouldn't make a difference

Poor Akamaru has had to go to the V-E-T this morning. He ate hardly anything yesterday and then turned his nose up at his bowl this morning. That's totally unheard of for him! He's also been throwing up.

After a bit of a check up the vet said that he's got gastroenteritis (you could hear sloshing coming from his tummy when she examined him), but we've also ordered some bloodwork to check that it isn't anything else. He's had an anti-neusea jab and an antibiotic one. Any idea how quickly I should expect him to recover? If he hasn't eaten by the morning I've got to take him back in. The poor little thing. I'm really worried about him.

I'm also wondering if it is worth claiming on his insurance for the bloodwork. The bill was £52 over the excess on his policy, would you claim for that amount? Would it raise the premiums much? I'm not really sure how these things work.
