A cotton ball will be fine but be careful not to use the same cotton ball on each eye otherwise you may end up transferring the germs across.

Put the ointment along her lower eye lid so that it goes into her eye.

anywhere in the eye will do make sure you don't touch the eye with the container though

Both these eye ointments are "human" eye oitments so I would imagine they are available in Canada ... I'm sure a good pharmacist will be able to advise you.  The easiest way to apply the ointment is to squeeze a tiny bit onto a clean, washed finger.  Then just hold mimi and transfer the ointment into her eye.  It's easier doing it from your finger rather than direct from the tube as there is les risk of poking her in the eye  ;)

When my little lad occasionally gets "gunky" eyes after speaking to my vet he said it was OK to use optrex eye oitment http://www.clockworkpharmacy.com/optrex-infected-eyes-eye-ointment.html  or  Golden eye ointment  http://www.peninsulapharmacy.co.uk/product/331/golden-eye-oitment/

Obviously you will still need to see a vet but if you have a 24 hr pharmacist near you this may help Mimi in the meantime.

OK, Canada is a big old place, I assume you're a long way from the vet.

Do try and get her vaccination record from the lady who supplied her to you, you need to know which needles she has had and when. The rescue should be able to send you a copy of her documents (or her computer history) by post/fax/e-mail.

If they don't have them I would use the date of adoption as her key date for repeat boosters.

The shelter will have a vet on its books, do call them and ask if you cat bring Mimi back for a check-over when the vet is in attendance, as her eye is causing concern, and has been for two weeks. Hopefully they will arrange things for you.

Eyes are tricky and untreated damage can lead to blindness or the loss of the eye - so best to get a professional opinion asap.

Meanwhile, occasional wiping with sterile (boiled and cooled) water with a clean cotton pad may help her to open her eye, calm the irritation and help start the tears working properly to clean the affected eye.

i was told she had her needles,i got her from a shelter last december and i have to wait till 27th for my cheq, unless the shelter i got her from can pay for it. which i happen they can help me with the vet as for the bathes Mimi will not let me near her with water.

the watering coming from her left eye is clear does that mean something?

and also when i have my fan on she sneezes and watering of the left eye is more noticeable

Mimi is black and White a tudexo cat

do you have a vaccination card for her? Else you won't know when her boosters are due.

re bathing, its a piece of damp cotton wool wiped over her eyes. You can also try a newly used t-bag as the tanin is supposed to be good, and of course if it comes from a fresh cuppa (no milk!) it will be sterile.

I would pop Mimi along to the vets as it could be a number of things and will probably require some treatment. I would go sooner rather than later as some eye infections can be difficult to clear up if they are not seen to promptly.

its possible its allergies but only a vet will be able to tell. Have you booked her in for a check up, has she been vaccinated against flu? Flu can cause sneezing and bad eyes.

What colour is she? Cats with white fur often look pink around the edge of the eye.
I have started to leave my cats to it for about a week but if it goes on longer a check up is a good thing.

You can try bathing it each day with boiled water to see if that helps but if the eye is infected she may need antibiotics and eye cream.
If the eye is infected and not treated worse case is the eye can ulcer and may ultimately need to be removed... or as you say it may be an allergy.

I'm not sure what Mimi did, but she has been keeping her Left eye closed a bit and it seems a bit watery and it is red around the edge of her eye. Her other eye is fine and it doesn't seem to be bothering her much, she is still eats a whole bowl of food, drinking lots and has spent most of the day sleeping and happy in sun beams as usual, she also plays alot to and want to be cuddle and sleeps with me,  she also going to the bathroom normal too, She does open the eye partly on occasion, there seems to be nothing visibly wrong with the eye. what should i do, i cannot get her to the vet right now? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. could this be allegies? BTW this is my first cat

thank you
