Kats, I'm sorry to hear that your employers are being less than understanding.

When I lost Lily last year it was actually at the beginning of a weeks leave but when I went back to work my 1st line manage said to me that she was surprised that I had actually managed to come into work as she knew what my cats meant to me. I thought it was very sweet of her and I do think if I had taken a couple more days off sick she would have understood.

I think you've probably been too honest, most people would just say they had a cold and take time off as sick leave

That is a lovely lovely poem and has made me blub lots.Thank you.

I can't believe at work today they've told me it is 'inappropriate' to have taken 2 days off sick and I should use holiday. God people don't realise how much animals are a part of our families do they?

Mind you this is the same NHS that wouldn't give me a compassionate day to go to my own Grandfather's funeral so I suppose nothing should surprise me any more  >:(

RIP Harvey, safe and sound at the Bridge by now xx

The Greatest Gift

I always knew this time would come,
From the very instant our eyes first met.
How I loved you then! How I love you now!
I made a promise then, and I will keep that promise now...
You will not suffer from a pain that will not heal;
You will not know the loss of a life remembered, now gone.

It is for me alone to make this decision,
The price for the bright joy and pure laughter
You brought me during the time we shared.
I am the only one who can decide when it is time.
When my hope dies, and my fear rides high,
Just when I need you most, I must let you go.

It is for you alone to tell me when you are ready
For without your guidance, I will not know
When to lay my grief, my guilt, my anger
My sorrow and my selfish heart aside
And give you this last gift, this greatest gift.
Your eyes will speak to mine, and I will know.

The pain of this moment is excruciating.
Tears stream down my face in a river of sorrow.
And my heart drowns in a pool of grief.
For you have spoken and I have listened,
And unlike other decisions I have made
This one brings no relief...no comfort...no peace.

For if there´s one thing you´ve taught me,
If there´s only one thing I´ve learned...
Unconditional love has a condition after all,
I must be willing to let you go, when you speak to me
I must be willing to help you go, if you cannot go alone.
And I must accept my pain so you can be free of yours.

Go easily now, go quickly now,
Do not linger here, it is time for you to leave.
Go find your strength, go find your youth.
Go find the ones who've gone before you.
You are free to leave me now, free to let your spirit soar
Rest easy now, your pain will soon be gone.

I pray I will find comfort in my memories...
In the dark and lonely days ahead.
I cannot say I will not miss you, I cannot say I will not cry.
For only my tears can heal my broken heart.
But, I promise you this; as long as I live,
You will live, alive in my mind, forever in my heart.

So I give you this last gift, all I have left to give,
And this will be my greatest gift...sending you away.
It is the measure of my unconditional love...
For only the greatest love can say,
"Good-bye, go find the bridge, we'll meet again,
Loving you has been the greatest gift of all."

Forever and Always... Until Rainbow bridge....

Thank you all  :thanks:

Harvey left very peacefully in the sunshine lying in my garden yesterday lunchtime. My vet was fantastic and gave us both time and made a huge fuss of Harv which was lovely.

I've taken him to be individually cremated today just outside of Kidderminster to a lovely place and should get him back home very soon.

Thanks again for your support.

I miss my man  :Luv2:

Vet remains happy with how Harv is doing. He's perked up quite a bit and seems to want to potter round the house more instead of staying in his bed.His breathing is definitely improved.I know it's unlikely the interferon will cure him but if it's going to just improve his quality of life for a short while it's worth it.

Thank gawd for insurance is all I can say (although I'd probably still do it anyway.)

Forgot to say I phoned that vet in the USA that someone posted a link about earlier in this thread, Dr Al Legendre. He is the most lovely man.Unfortunately the announcement about FIP and the promising breakthrough is for dry FIP and Harv has wet FIP.

Great news that a breakthrough treatment has been found and let's hope some day one is found for wet FIP too.It really is the most heartbreaking disease :(

Hi all :)

Sorry my laptop at home is awful so I can only update at work.

Harv is ok,we have the vets again tonight. Last weeks vet visit went well and the vet was happy with how he is doing. He hadn't gained any weight so no extra fluid in his stomach/lungs which was great news. His appetite is good but I know that's the steroids. He manages to potter round the garden and has enjoyed the sunshine. He does have the odd day when I question if it's right to go on but then he perks up and looks happy and fine with life.I'll be guided by the vets who I trust totally.

At least I can do the injections of interferon which is good.He does squeak a bit though like the true manly wimp he is  :)

Jemima is doing just fine at the moment.

The other 7 cats are carrying on as per normal especially the naughty ginger CH boy  :Luv2:

Thanks :)

3 doses of interferon given now. On friday I was very close to phoning the vet to come and pts as Harv was so poorly. He's definitely picked up a bit though. He's behaving more like a cat again. After friday when I thought I can't watch him struggling to walk and breath and eat I can't quite believe he's still with us. I don't know if the interferon is working or if it's just that he had a bad day on friday but his breathing rate has gone down and he's walking much better without being so puffed out.
