So sorry hun to hear about Rolo my sisters 6 month old kitten has been diagnosed with wet FIP and i was wondering if the Interferon injections are working yet i know Rolo has only just started his injections but any info will be a huge help my sister is in total bits so we can understand how you are feeling at the moment

Hello everyone hope you are all well me and my boys have been at the vets today, well news is much the same his walking is slightly worse he is knuckling slightly on his other front leg now which is devastating news, we have started on interferon injections today every other day then we will drop down to once a week at £83 an injection we are soon going to reach our vet fees limit on the insurance. his weight is the same so no better or worse. His eating isn't as good as it has been we had one day were he ate hardly anything better again today but that could be the fresh salmon. he has had his staples out and all is well with healing. his eye exam was normal and temperature.

My cat with FIP was on antibiotics too, not sure if she was on steroids as well though. if his stomach can tolerate it, it might also be worth trying him on kitten food, but if the weight is down to FIP, you might not be able to do much about it

his daignosis is based on his high titres proteins in his blood the antaxia weight loss enlarged lymph nodes.

I'm only speaking from experience here & not knowledge, but our CP branch had a Siamese cat in a couple of years ago. She had a very high titre, but it hadn't turned into FIP. Brigid at Siamese rescue offered to take her. From what I remember, she was kept in a separate pen, and within 6 months, her numbers were down so much, that she was able to be rehomed

What are they basing the diagnosis on - is it just from the high coronavirus titres? if so, that isnt a definitive diagnosis of FIP, its only confirmation he's been exposed to coronavirus, which is a very common virus, many cats carry it. If your cats have previously been close then its highly likely your other cat has coronavirus antibodies anyway - that doesnt mean he will get FIP. Your other cat can't 'catch' FIP from Rolo, FIP itself isnt infectious, only the coronavirus that may, rarely, cause FIP. Do look at Dr Addie's site it will put things in perspective.

I think its good that they are treating with antibiotics and steroids, its what Gwynnie was on when they thought it was FIP with her. I have no experience of interferon, but its definitely worth trying and the fact the he is still bright in himself and eating is sounding positive to me.

Have you tried Hill's a/d? it is high in calories and usually given to convalescent cats. Royal Canin also do a convalescent food http://www.royalcanin.co.uk/vet/clinical_diets/feline_clinical_diets/convalescence_support.aspx

If he will drink it, cat milk is good. The supermarket stuff is OK but just lactose reduced cows milk. The best stuff is cat replacement milk usually given to kittens - it is a powder you make up. There are a few brands, cimicat, sherleys (available in PAH), and Royal Canin babycat milk are a few.

He is on antibiotics I have no idea why and he is going onto steroids & interferon on Wednesday he is still bright any one any ideas on how to get him to put weight on any diets etc?

I am sorry to hear this, I too have lost a cat to FIP and kept mine separate once it was suspected, but the vet said it wasn't worth testing my other cat, as it only shows if they have come into contact with the Corona virus, and most cats can shrug it off. I am sure Dr Addies site gives tips on dealing with things like scratching posts and surfaces. I have only heard of Interferon being successful with dry FIP, not wet.

I too lost one around 10 years ago to FIP .

I did have Sophie at the time (who was 5 years old -but i had no idea Bonnie had FIP then although we were at the vets most weeks .
I only had her about 7 months before i lost her but in all honesty as i didn''t know till the end , my 2 weren''t seperated , but they weren''t close either .

I still have Sophie (as well as 4 others now ) and i was extremely lucky that she was ok and is now almost 17 !

I can only send you loads of these

You must keep them apart and have your other cat tested at some point

Having lost a Mum and 3 kittens to FIP I know how devestating it can be - I have the soul surving kitten baby Beijing she is now 2 and a half but is a Corona carrier so stayed here with us and has a happy life

Gem lasted 6 weeks after diagnosis and was gently put to sleep when she stopped eating our thoughts are with you

Words cant really express how i feel he is like my baby i love my cats more than anything i cant bear the thought of losing him it breaks my heart he is my best friend and the thought of losing him tears me apart at the moment the only thing keeping me going is that he is a very happy cat the vet has said to keep our two cats apart but the are very close and missing each other does any one know if this is necessary?

Its bad news I'm afraid they have now ruled out all other possibility's and are saying he has FIP. Our vet has told us treatment is unsuccessful and pointless so we should just keep him confortable until a time when we will have to put him to sleep. I'm devastated. does anyone know of anything we can do please let us know.

Not much to say he has put some weight on he is now 4.09 so thats something. One of his staples came out he caught it on the litter tray ouch!!

hes back at the vet wednesday 20th to have his staples out keep up the vibes it wont be long before we know xx

Update
My boy is home

hes had his tablets ground in some tuna which he wolfed down

his muti vits and is currently fast a sleep next to me while we are watching hancock

so nice to have him home and he is very settled and calm I have tryed up a rota for my family so he is never alone as he has to be barrier nursed, kept totally seperate for our other cat, so we are all going to take turns to stay in here overnight.
