Quick update on Sophie -she had her stitches out last night and the ones above her eye have dissolved .
She is doing well and back to normal

Sophie continues to do well - has been for her check up this afternoon -her eye is still slightly swollen , but its only been 3 days !
She is eating and been out for a brief time this evening too - she is pretty tough and does well for her age -just over 16 now .
She is also back to talking to me and letting me know if she wants anything-if she wants milk she taps on the fridge door

She goes back in 10 days for her stitches out .

M&S started that silly thing with having to ring their vet line before using out of hours vet. As if anyone is going to mess around ringing M&S when they have an emergency on their hands. If I want veterinary advice, I'll ring my own vet not their helpline.

re paying the vet. Bear in mind that most companies are willing to pay the vet direct, but it's down to individual vets whether they will accept that. Many won't and will insist on being paid up front by the customer.

Sophie is out from under the bed and has had another drink of milk ,hoping she will eat tomorrow !
Back at vets Friday to check how its healing -looks ok to me and have bathed her eyes with some Optrex as they were really gunky and she looks slightly better .

I dont know what M&S are like any more because many of us here were with them but left for AXA when M&S started playing around with costs etc.

They used to financed by AXA as are a least one other company but AXA dumped them, this is about 3 yrs ago now so they may have got back on track.

I am with marks and spencers and they have been excellent with all the problems I have had with Ollie and his epilepsy. I have the premier cover and even after £4000 claim last year his premium did not go up much and he is £10.25 a month now. They have £7000 per year not per condition so they will cover Ollies Epilepsy every year, They pay his medicine monthly and his blood tests. The pay vet direct and are always really quick. they are slightly cheaper if you quote through web site. there is also free 27/7 access to a vet nurse by phone. They also were bery helpful with me when Ollie took really ill during the night and refunded emergency out of hours charges also

My Mum had her we dog with Tesco and had no problems there either.

Guess you will always get bad comments about every company

Just heard they take a few months to pay out that was all ,but it put me off!

Sophie is in the big igloo now ,still not eaten anything and is not happy with me -i am sure in another day or two though she will be ok.

Just spoke to Axa and its £7000 per year cover per condition -which i wasn''t sure of -but have had it explained and its looking the better one up to now.

Argo looks like its per condition and per year with the platinum one which is £13.66 and excess is dearer at £65 -Axa is £50
Sainsburys is also per condition and once the money has been spent if there was another problem with the same condition the next year and there was only a few hundred left -you would have to put the rest to it yourself.

Look like Axa then.

I can vouch for Axa, they were fantastic with Max's ongoing conditions, and always paid the vets directly and by return, can't speak highly enough of them

That's good news.

Is the Argos cover per year or per condition? Make sure it's the former as per condition payments will stop as soon as you reach the max amount which is not good for chronic or long term conditions. With per year cover, the pot is replenished each year. £4000 isn't a lot of cover either - I'd prefer £6000 - £7000. Consider that if you need an MRI scan or something like that, you could be looking at about £2000 just for that procedure.

Thanks everyone -she is a bit jumpy and has been hiding under the bed ,but thats to be expected .She has had a drink of milk (one of her very occasional treats) but nothing to eat yet .

Looked at Axa and Argos up to now -i do have papers for Pandora and her PKD negative test paper too.

Its roughly the same price -Axa is £9.27 for £7000 and £50 excess -Argos is £6.96 for Silver cover -£2500 cover and £65 access-Gold is £9.09 with £4000 cover.

I was told Argos pay out very quick too.

Please look at AXA for insurance, at least compare what it gives against any other. I think you will find all insurances are more for pedigrees although if you have no papers Pandora is technically a moggie but dont know if the vet or insurance compant will understand that........sigh

Well , Sophie is home -looks very sorry for herself -very long scar down her side stitched with proper stitches and the lump from above her eye removed and has dissolvable stitches in -and a lampshade ! Which as she is still so dozy , i have taken off for the time being and will see how she is without it.

The lump itself was cancerous -BUT it hasn''t spread anywhere else -he said occasionally fatty lumps do turn cancerous and thats what happened and it suddenly got bigger over the weekend and looked sort of bloody -thats why i got her straight to the vets as i knew it didn''t look right . So Good News

She has to go back Friday for a check up and then next week for stitches out .

The bill was £250- i have paid him £100 up front with the rest to follow over the next few weeks .

Pandora will be insured !Just been looking -Argos has some good reports .

Pandora looked in horror at Sophie as if to say - is that what happens when you live here ? and hid under the bed

When Alice had the tumour on her neck & face removed, she was fine in no time and eating straight away as if nothing was wrong - it was quite radical surgeryl to make sure it was all removed
