Hi.
One of my ragdoll girls Skye has been sitting in the litter tray (as in for a long time).
Wondered what was wrong and noticed some white/greyish fluid around her anal area either side (a bit light when you burst a white head).
Realised it was causing her some trouble and so looked it up and found out her anal glands might be causing her some discomfort.
So with a pair of gloves i managed to get all the fluid out and now she seems comfortable again. I cleaned the area thoroughly and made sure there was no further fluid that needed to come out.
The fluid didn't look infected and had a very slight fishy smell. I think I have caught it in time. She has eaten and is now asleep on the sofa.
Should I take her to the vets anyway or just keep an eye ? I'm guessing from the research I have done that the glands purpose is to provide lubrication for the passing of stools. She seems content now though.

no experience of this philip hopefully someone will know, otherwise are your vets the type who you can phone for advice?

This really should only be done by a vet, I know phillip works in health care so maybe has more knowledge about this. A vet has done Sasas in the past but thats all I know, sorry

Gill I spoke to my vet.
Her anal glands just had a little too much fluid in and were getting slightly swollen. A more common problem now that modern cat foods contain more cereal bases.
I did it correctly and all is fine. Have one happy Skye today.
Thanks.
