Title: Advice on found cat
Post by: Tigger91 on August 16, 2011, 18:41:07 PM
Hi I need some advice. The other day I drove passed a cat on a wall, which looked to be asleep. I went passed again today and it was on the wall. I stopped to check if it was ok, but its dead. It doesnt look as if ithas been hit by a car or anything. There isnt many houses around but knocked on all the doors to see if it was anyones. One person said they had lost 2 cats but it wasnt theirs, and apparently a lot had gone missing recently. The cat has been there for a day or two. Is there anyway of seeing if it is microchipped or finding the owner? I know if it was my cat I would like to know.

It sounds like someone may have put the poor puss there  :(

The best thing would be to take it to a nearby vet to check for a microchip so the owners can have closure.  If there is no chip then the vet may know, or be able to trace the owner.  You could also let rescues know in the area in case anyone has reported a cat of that description missing.

Bless you for caring  :)

RIP puss xx

eta, you could also post in the 'Found cat' section here.

Thanks. Am I able to take it in with it not being alive? If it was old age I would of thought it would of gone somewhere quiet, so not sure whats happened. Is there a rspca number I can ring too?
Thanks

Yes you can take it in for scanning, not sure that RSPCA would be interested to be honest.

Poor cat and hope it didnt die in pain RIP

You could try ringing the council and asking if they scan dead cats found at the roadside as they will be the people that would come and collect him/her anyway - I know my council do but sadly many don't. I would also ring the local CP and RSPCA as they will hopefully keep a lost/found register and the owners might have reported him/her missing.

Good on you for caring

Thanks never thought of that. Just waiting on a phone call back from the vets. Hopefully they can find out who it belongs to and how its died. Apparently a few have been found dead recently

It might be worth having a look on the NPR to see it a kitty matching the description has been logged as lost ... you can search by county  ;)

Just thinking:
if so may cats hav e gone missing in this areay, this one should mpst definitely be checked for poison and violence. It might shed a light of n the other disappearances....

In all these cases of cats going missing, this one might be a clue

The cat was still there today. Took him/her to the vets and there was no micro chip and he was unsure how the cat died. They said they could take the cat but my partner decided to bury him in the forest near us. When he picked the cat up he said his mouth looked a bit strange. As if it had been hissing at something  :( I hope the poor thing wasn't in pain...
