you can only do your best hun to try and get them back and without any sightings at all its very difficult.

you never know they may just turn up one day when you least expect it...

Well the meat went untouched. I then took 2 night off to get some sleep.
Started again last night and the midnight check revealed I had caught my neighbour (back of me) cat - or at least it was a ginger tabby. So I let it go (I should have checked its rearend really 'cos it smelt of tom and I know her cat has been done.....). Had baited the trap with some Orijen

go figure.

I've had two calls from local people to ask if I've got them back yet but no sightings - just about ready to give up. I'm sure they will probably find good homes locally.

well 3 lots of food gone last night. so the word must be getting around!
going to try Teresa's suggestion tonight with some beef and a rock. Then I'm not going to trap for a couple of nights 'cos i need some sleep.

Oh well, a few months like this and I'll get whatever it is eventually when its too fat to get out of the trap.

On a nicer note, been with our newest fosterer all afternoon as her first foster cat had 5 kittens, think its 3 black, a silver tabby and the last one was a beautiful creamy colour so it will be interesting to see what that develops into. I can guess which ones will be reserved first!

Try not to let it get you down,they will soon become over confident and slip up.
Are you using the big heavy duty trap? if so the pin at the top can be adjusted to a hairline but I am sure you already know that so apologies in advance.I have at times weighted plate with large pebble with piece of meat slightly under it when dealing with lightweights.Only time I have had this sort of trouble was when a chicken went in

Have some trapping to do myself so can sympathise.

Had to go up twice last night to replace the food in the trap.
Both times all the food had gone and the trap was not sprung.

Have tried all sorts to make the trap more sensitive to the slightest pressure on the plate.

At least it means something is still around to eat the food but its getting a tad frustrating! Never had this before, the trap has succesfully caught 8 week old kittens with no problem.

If anyone has any useful tips then please let me know.

Tried a bowl balanced on the plate last night hoping that if it tipped backwards it might encourage a cat to lean forward more to finish off its meal. The bowl fell backwards at an angle alright and the meal was finished but nothing caught!

perhaps whatevers going in to eat will get careless one night.

no luck overnight, though ALL the food up there has gone this morning and the trap did not set.
PIlchards tonight do lets hope its 3rd night lucky. Have checked the trap and it is in working condition so someone is being careful.

Polly has been groomed and is now blocking my access to the keyboard - good thing too as I've got my trays to do!

no luck last night - not a bean, hog or neighbourhood cat, was checking every 2 or 3 hours. Will try chicken tonight - obviously no one wanted the tuna.

Got some more leafleting to do later as well.

Had to smile when I read your post.... I had a totaly feral cat escape from me as well and have never been able to lure him back into a trap yet thankfully he was nutered.....He is now living in the primrose colony with 50+ cats most who are nutered.....He was due to be released the day after he escaped the the place where we trapped him from....Guess he knew he was onto a good thing in my area as the cat are fed every night and are waiting for me when I go with there food

Dont beat your self up over it....It happens to us all at some stage or another.

I have five hissy spitty scratchy monsters in my hall and given have a chance I bet they would bolt out the door

and they are only 6 wks old

i know how you feel, I managed to lose my first foster cat a fortnight ago, he went to ground so quickly I didn't think he was going to come back at all but he turned up 2 days later - we decided then that he could be allowed his freedom as he knows where to come back, but he is only allowed out at weekends cos he hasn't grasped the come home at bed thing yet - I know where he hangs out though, so can cope with that and he is wearing a collar with tag now.

Poor Angie, I don't think you are a fully paid up member of cat resuce till you have had an escapee. A couple of weeks ago, one went past me and slipped thru the safety door of the run, which muggins here thought she had closed properly. There was me chasing this cat up and down the street at 5am, with a torch and wearing pink PJ's. not suitable attire for cat catching!

Do hope you get the little blighters back soon, tell you, some of these so and so's don't know when they are well off, do they.

Took 3 in last night and they had to go in our shed overnight till I had a shuffle round today. The silly things got out, saw one running up the garden as I went to feed them this morning and thought it looked like one of the three.....

They had broken through a panel in the side of the shed and escaped through a tiny hole.

Just got back from home visits, homing and collecting our trap.

Leaflets to print and deliver this evening and trap to set to start trapping all the neighbourhood cats.

Oh well, first ones I've lost but lets hope the tuna does its thing tonight and I don't catch too many of the neighbours cats.

poor things, I hope they haven't gone too far.
