Finally got Peewee into vets for check up, first vaccinations and microchip today; clean bill of health although a little on thin side and vet thinks her bald bits were down to overgrooming due to a flea infestation which we sorted last week, so all is well with her.

Peter is beautiful. Am so glad she wasnt PTS. It just emphasises all the more how vital the likes of Teresa and all of the other sardine suppliers work is.

Nice one in taking him in Teresa, always nice to hear of the oldies getting a 2nd chance. I agree whole heartedly on the 'madness' thing... I think if you didn't have that then you'd really struggle with this calling of rescue work!

hopefully something will come up for her soon and she can be settled again in a new forever home.

Actually it is not always that simple. My mother had two cats when she went into care. I had three, plus a dog and was planning to move to the UK at that point. My sister had three cats plus dog also. To take on both cats would have given one or both of us five cats, and in my case, the additional challenge of moving them internationally which at ages 12 and 15 would have been difficult for the cats. Fortunately (well, actually rather tragically), one of my sister's cats died so she was able to squeeze both of them into hers. So it is not always that the will is not there. It is sometimes simply that the capacity does not exist.

The woman gave up the kittens a while back but not the mum. She told Sharon today she now wants the mum taken in. She was told that now we are full and she will have to wait until there is space. She said if we don't take it, she will dump it at the vets and leave it for us to deal with. I sometimes google names and googled hers - it turns out the council had refused to take some bagged rubbish (as well as her wheelie) so she had dumped it at the council offices. She was on the BBC news page - she was fined £75

- This leads me to believe she wil keep her word with the cat

Edit - I read it again and she refused to pay the fine, was taken to court and the magistrate imposed an absolute discharge - so she got away with it

Speaking personally, I started off thinking it might be cool to go down to my local cat rescue and tickle some puds.

Trouble is, when you start looking into the problem of homeless cats, you discover just how big an issue it is and you realise the incredible workload rescuers have and if you are any kind of decent human being with emotions and principals the only thing to do is roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. If only I'd done a tad more research and considered just how much I'd age in a year.

Because her owner had died and family unable to give her a home.

That's how Jasmine my black/white girl came into me. She was approx 2 years old and was taken in to be pts, the woman was adamant she wasn't going home with her, she was being pts or I take her, no inbetween

I know if my vets had refused and I'd refused to take her, she would have just been dumped somewhere so sometimes I wonder if putting to sleep in some situations is the better of 2 evils.

I'm glad Peter has managed to get her feet under the table and has been given a second chance

I always worry in instances like this, what happens if they are adamant and the vet refuses? What happens to the cat then?

Hi, Peter looks great and very lucky to have been "caught in the net" so to speak.
What really worries me is that we must be missing hundreds of these healthy looking 8-14yrs old cats whose people just take them and have them put down.
I'm way over my numbers now this year and it breaks my heart.
I was informed of one Tues, a 12yr old, whose only fate if I didn't take him was the needle. I had to say yes, what else? SHE is beautifu and healthy, she certainly didn't warrent PTS, and I sincerely hope no vet would have done this.
My only answer was please don't tell me of anymore until my numbers are more stable, a case of what I don't know about etc. But that is pathetic really.
How oh how can this be stopped or at least slowed?
