Aww thank you MrsR.

He's home now and he's sleepy. He started meowing as soon as he got him home. I let him out and he went charging around downstairs meowing his little head off. Then he ran upstairs and started digging on the bed so I picked him up and plopped him in his litter box. Poor boy was in the "wee position" for so long and not much came out. Then he had a little groom a bit of food and went back into the carrier and started grooming himself. Now he's asleep on my bed ... he still seems very out of it  :Luv:

Apparently he was very well behaved.
I was shocked that they leave the incision open.

Glad he's OK    Bet you can't wait until later on now to go get him and give him a huge cuddle  :Luv:

I would go with bland food for today, when Max had his teeth done a few years ago they gave us some pouches of food, and said he probably wouldn't be hungry after the anesthetic ............. boy were they wrong, bounded straight out of his carrier to his food bowl  :evillaugh:

I've volunteered [and worked - but we don't talk about that] in rescue. In fact at the same place Memphy is, I know them all very well. They do so many neuters every week, and I've taken care of plenty of neutered dogs/cats but it's so different when it's your own little one  :scared: :scared:

Den, all vet nurses go through extensive training on dealing with fretful meowmies and daddies.  :evillaugh: But sometimes the lure of a cheese and pickle sarnie does make them forget promises to call with updates.

I must have dropped dozens of cats off for the snip. None of them looked happy about it. Only one caused problems but that was because he was crypto and even so, he survived the ordeal and was still pleased with the bowl of prawns he got as a reward.  ;)

The vet usually tells you - I used to give Smudge some steamed fresh fish but he's an adult cat.

Whatever you give him I would only make it a small amount even though he might seem like he's starving.

Bet you're dead happy.

I went to loo then phoned them. Normally they'd have phoned so don't know what's so different today. He's fine and awake which is a relief.

What should he have for dinner today? ....... he was starving this morning as he couldn't eat after 6pm yesterday.

Den, phone the vet, they will understand you are anxious.  I used to phone quite often with Smudge and I just said sorry but I need to know he's ok.  I agree with Suzanne too - not good for you as you want him asap, but it will give him more time to come around.  Good luck.

It is horrible having to leave them - I'm sure everything will be OK and Memphis will soon forgive you.

Take phone with you - have to admit I've done that when awaiting for the vet to call  :evillaugh:

They should be phoning anytime now  :scared: :scared:

Surgery is 10:30-12 usually. I can actually pick him up at 2 but because of circumstances I'm not going to be able to do it until 6.

In some ways I think it's better to leave them there a bit longer.  That way the anaesthetic should have worn off and you won't have a wobbly kit trying to run around and bumping into things!

Its such a worry but I'm sure he will be fine.  Waiting until 6 seems an awfully long time, when Raffiki was "done" we dropped him off at 8.30am and he was ready to collect at 11am.  When he got home it was as if he hadnt had anything done.

Aw Den, I know how you feel.  When I used to leave Smudge at the vet for him to have his teeth done he would be meowing so loud and deep, like a screaming sound and Iwould walk out of the vet crying.  I had to do it twice in 14 yrs and each time I would always phone before he was due to come round from the anaesthetic and they would laugh at me turning up early to pick him up, but as soon as he heard my voice inthe reception he would start meowing from the other end of the surgery.  I too clock watched and it's not good for you.  I agree with others try and keep yourself busy and get out of the house.  He will be ok, they will keep him nice and warm and entertained I'm sure.

Cuddles all round tonight I bet - he'll forgive you.

Poor lad.  He'll be fine.  I hate leaving Jaffa at the vets cos he's such a scaredy cat when he's there so it was awful when I had to leave him for his dental a while back.  But however much he hated it, he was fine when he got home so I'm sure Memphis will be the same.  He might not be very happy while he's there, but he will get over it.

Yes any of mine would be on my mind all day and I'd be worried but it is a routine op and I am sure everything will run smoothly and he will be home safely and be loving the cuddles and attention.   Try and keep yourself busy and if you need to keep phoning the vets to see how things are then do it - will rest your mind a little.

Aw, he'll be fine, and be home again before you know it

Try not to worry (easier said than done I know), and try not to watch the clock as it will make the day go more slowly.

Keep yourself busy and the hours will just fly by

awww bless.   I usually work on the assumption that if I treat it as if its another every day thing rather than fuss with them it helps.  It is hard not to worry though especially when its your own.

I'm sure he'll be just fine tho.  Let us know how he is later tonight.

I just got back from dropping Memphy off at the vet as it's his neuter day. I should be used to it but it's still horrible dropping them off. To make matters worse I got to see him in the vet holding area and poor Memphis looked sooooooooo scared, I've never seen him look like that before  :( :( He's always so cheery. The hair on his tail was all stuck up and out and fluffy, and he gave me that "Meowmy come back" look.

I'm going to pick him up at 6 ... today's going to be a long day  :'(
