Title: Cat Emergency Evacuation Kit
Post by: Purdy Bear on January 04, 2014, 10:24:17 AM
Tempest's thread on cat carrier covers made me think of posting this cat emergency evacuation kit video.  With such weather we are having at the moment, some of us may have to evacuate at the last minute and most importantly we must think of our pets too.  In the video the lady tells you of her experiences evacuating with her pet cat Sebastian and their pet Guinea Pig.

Sebastian and his family had to evacuate due to a fire in the next condo in their block, and they lost their house completely, luckily they soon found another home to rent.  Sebastian passed to spirit some years later but this video still stands good stead.

If anyone is interested/or not I have a thread set on YT for all the pet emergency evacuation kits, here's the link to the first of many listed :

PPS there isn't that many specific for cats which is a shame.

Opps  I gave you the wrong link for the second one, that's for human kits, here's the right link for pet ones:

Jackson Galaxy, on his Facebook feed, has asked all cat owners if they would be ready in an emergency.  I thought it would be a good idea to bump this thread for anyone who needs some advice on it.  If you scroll down to my first and second post, you'll find the links for kit advice.

So far this year we've had:

1.    3 day evacuation due to the Holborn fire
2.    800 wild fires in Wales.
3.    Earthquake on the Kent Coast - luckily no one was hurt etc.
4.    24 hour evacuation for a WW2 bomb in Wembley

Oh and an example of a printable pet kit tick list - sorry I can only find it on Pinterest.  I can't find it on the original website which was for a Veterinary practice.

No, at the moment I am not ready to evacuate all my cats.
Problem is that they would have to share carriers, as I cannot fit more than 4 or 5 carriers in my tiny car, even if I did not bring anything else.
And Tosca, my little wild girl, would be in the park, anyway, and I have no idea how I would catch her, I only manage to grab hold of her very occasionally, most of the times she will slip right through my hands. She gets her flea and worm treatment in her food instead of spot-on treatment for that very reason.

Bumping this thread due to the awful weather the UK is having with evacuations already.

In the UK, so far this year, there have been 20 occasions where the top media TV station shave reported people having to evacuate.  The 800 grass fires in Wales were only counted as 1.
