Title: Vibes for Dillen please.
Post by: JackSpratt on April 15, 2011, 18:53:26 PM
Some of you may remember Dillen. She had aggression issues with her previous fosterer.

That seems to be much better now, but the poor girl is terribly ill and Andrea is at a loss what to do. The vets suspect lymphoma/cancer of the adrenal or stomach/intestines area. Dillen's on a steroid course for any type of cancer and that is all that can be done,  as she isn't well enough to have intesive treatments or undergo GA.

PLEASE send vibes, pray or whatever you believe works. This girl is only 14 months old and she's had such an awful start.

:( The poor girl it's so sad for her, that may be why she's been so temperamental if she's poorly.   Sending lots of love and cuddles and hope that the suspected diagnosis isn't what they suspect

What are her symptoms do you know JS?

The runs (from both ends), poor coat condition and a lump was mentioned. I'm not entirely sure what else, all I know is Andrea is beside herself with worry. I want to be able to do more, but until they've got her movements under control it's pretty difficult for anyone to do much.

I am so sorry to hear of her illness. It really is so unfair that our little ones have to endure such things. Sending healing vibes and thoughts and hoping she treads a gentle path. xx
Also to her carer - stay strong because she will feel you love around her x

Update:

"Did another 24 hour starve to stop the diarrhea and am weaning her back onto foods at the minimum amount to start; that's literaly a few bits every 4 hrs/5 hrs. Am adding Avipro plus into it which seems to be working really well and so far solid poos.. I have also put her on Doxy antibiotics for any infection that may be present and underlying.. Only thing Dillen isn't happy about is the small amounts of food at the moment bless her, but once we're in control of the situation we can build her back up slowly that shouldn't be a problem."

Sounds positive at least!

New update:

"Well Dillen seems fine and enjoying being out the cage.I've sussed what the jumping up at and grabbing you is now, she is grabbing me for attention to bring her down on her level. She hasnt been bristled up at all today and is really relaxed. Pauline popped round today so asked her to help me chip her in case she flipped out,but as it was Dillen was fine about it. I've noticed a shine in her coat today too!! I think things are looking up :) "

Newest update: (I nearly cried with happiness when I read this one)

"Dillen is doing brilliantly. Now I've got her digestion sorted she is thriving and even her coat has stopped shedding! She is really relaxed and I even left bedroom door open for a bit today whilst I was cleaning ferrets and doing litter trays and she wandered a few times onto landing, relaxed then came back to the bedroom to chill out.First vaccs this week and in all honesty I am happy to put her up for rehoming end of next week. I haven't seen any real aggression or anything similar. I've had plenty of strangers round too and she has been great."

Both. It's understood that there's nothing that can be done and she will eventually go blind. But she's happy enough.

My visit was postponed until the 24th of this month due to RACR moving location. Just had an update:

"Dillen has been diagnosed with possible diabetes or hyperglycemia. She has glucose and ketones in urine but she also concerntrating it. The vet is sending bloods off ASAP; she also thinks there's potentially kidney failure, which if there nothing at this stage can be done. Desperately need funds raising for her the vet visit today cost £100 alone. Is she is diabetic if and needs insulin etc. her medical costs will be ongoing. She now weighs 2.1 kg!!" :(

If she is to be on Canin Insulin and a box of needles works out about £30.00 a month - this was our cost for our 2 diabetics - we used the same needle twice a day then disposed of in a used coffe jar then took this to the vets for disposal.

I do hope that she can be stabilised my advice would also be let her eat what she likes it helps put the weight on, both ours loved Cheese and Cream so got both and anythiong else they faniced!

OK - good news. Definitely NOT her kidneys....  Waiting on the other results, but that's awesome news for both me and Andrea who have developed a soft spot for her.

Possibles are hyperglycemia or diabetes. If it's the first we're hoping to set up a sponsorship situation for Dillen as the vet feels this episode may have been triggered by the fact she had to go to one of Andreas fosterers while she moved house.
