Bonnie wasn't walking last night, her legs were all over the place, fod and water knockedover. She let me pick her up which she never does, I stroked nd kissed her and she purred a bit. She had some food and Iwent to bed with her. She was still likeit this morning so I took her to the vet and he gave her a right look over and said she'd had a stroke :( He gave her 2 injections and a blood test and wants me to go back tomorrow morning. I just can't loose her as well as my mum. She didlet me pick her up a hour ago andthen scratched hell out of me toget down, so that could be good news fingers crossed. She also hadsome food and water. She alsoripped oneofher claws out and Eddie put a bandage on and it has little paw prints on it

Her bandage sounds really cute.
I do hope Bonnie will recover quickly. I have known people whose cats have had strokes and they have made a good recovery - a little more wobbly than before, but certainly with a good quality of life.
-
That's really kind of you as you are quite new andnotseen you around
Bonnie alsowent totally blind 6 months ago.
Mary

Paddy had a stroke at 15 years old Mary. We had him a further 5 years, although it left him deaf. His quality of life however remained good until his last 6 months. Sending you both much love Mary. Know just how much you mean to each other. Her little bandage sounds so sweet. :)
-
This sounds like Lilli's episode in Dec. She's back to her feisty demanding self now. She's just trying to occupy your mind Mary. Xxxx
-
Our vet told us that if a cat survives the first 24 hours, most will go on to make good progress. It was true for us and hope it will be for Bonnie xxx
-
That's very good to hear Sue!
Mary, this is the last thing you need at the moment :( Lots of  to you and Bonnie.
-
Lots of healing vibes for a speedy recovery for the lovely Bonnie Mary
Take care of each other xx

Sending lots of get well wishes to Bonnie. It is good to hear that she has eaten and drunk
Ouch
-
Oh Mary you must be terribly worried. What a traumatic couple of weeks for you :(
We had a similar issues with little Chausette, she was the runt and never expected to live very long, but she went on for a year after her stroke, albeit she was deaf on one side and walked in circles some of the time.
I'm not trying to make light of the situation, and certainly know what Bonnie means to you, to all of us for that matter, but its worth staying hopeful until the investigations are complete. Every finger and paw crossed for her lovliness here.
-
Ouch indeed Alison - 1 scratch is 3" long on my boob :evillaugh:
Sheila, Bonnie was walking in circles last night but not today. Hope he doesn't godeaf with her already being blind,
:thanks:guys

Mary let us know as soon as you can what the vet says in the morning. Healing thoughts sent to Bonnie.
Julie.

Sending loads of good vibes for Bonnie and hope she has improved a bit by the morning
-
Mary, just popping by with massive hugs for you and for Bonnie. How's she been overnight?
She may not be left deaf - it depends what area of the brain has been affected. I have everything crossed here, and hope your scratches aren't too sore.
-
I'm sorry to hear this, Mary. As if you haven't got enough on your plate at the moment
In general, cats do tend to recover very well from strokes. Much better than people. We think Jaffa had a small stroke when he was poorly but he recovered from that. I suspect Bonnie's high bp was the cause? It may be that increasing her bp meds will help prevent it happening again.
I hope she's improved this morning
-
Sending lots of positive vibes for Bonnie . I hope her improvement is continuing.
Korky had an episode like the one you describe that was put down to a stroke and he recovered quickly and fully with Marbocyl which is an antibiotic. I think Gill's Franta Napoleon had these ABs for his seizures too so it might be something worth asking the vet about.
-
Sending lots of healing vibes for Bonnie and     for you Mary.

Poor Bonnie, I do hope she recovers well. Sending lots of get well wishes for her and hug and you too Mary
-
Aw bless her. I really hope she is better this morning Mary.
Cats do get over strokes much better than people do so hopefully she will back to her old self again very soon. Our Holly had one, it was very traumatic at the time but she had a long snooze and after a day or so she was ok.
:Luv:

So sorry I've not updated, Iwas shattered yesterday and went tobed with Bonnie all afternoon and most of the evening and been usy today.
WhenI went back to see Eddie on Wednesday morning he was pleased with her and when he saw that she was walking a bit better he was surprised. I also said that she had meowed in the car all the way to see him which was her usual self and not quiet like the day before.
Unfortunately her blood tests showed a few things like potassium and somet else levels are up or down and could start diabetes offand she is starting with kidney probs. He recommended renal food.
She's had another antibiotic injection and another oneand I've got a weeks supply of antibiotic tablets. I take her back next Wednesday.
Still confined to the bedroom and she's not complaining ;) :Luv2: :hug:2

Mary - if you want some renal food I have loads left from Jaffa (still in date) so I can send you some of each if you want to see if she will eat it.
-
Susanne that would be brilliant as it's such a waste when they won't eat it. I rememberbuying a sack of something for Smudge many moons agoand he wouldn't entertain it.
I think you have my address but if not I'll PM you.
:thanks: a million forall the   for me and my Bonnie
Mary

The only person that matters in being there is you Mary. Think only of you and your love for your dear mum and let this be the time when you send her on her way with your love surrounding her. I hope it all runs smoothly and will be thinking of you then xx
-
Sorry to hear that Mary, it's very unfair. Shame we can't choose our family the way we choose our friends, eh?
On a practical note, I can recommend Rescue Remedy - it's really helped me at times like this. You can get the spray from Boots, and it really does work.
Sending lots of
-
As someone said its just you and your mum that count to hell with the rest of family and love to Bonnie

Thanks Jane
It was hard to let her go but she was in pain after the 2 strokes and it was worse with her going blind last October.
Looking forward to the 2 oldies that I'm getting when they have the all clear from RSPCA.
