Hi people.
This is just a thought.. But it would be so nice to met some of you all.... I realise that this little community is widely spaced apart, but if anyone is in the SE area of the UK and fancies meeting up somewhere inbetween perhaps on a Saturday or Sunday in the not to distant future then let me know.
In between perhaps depends on where you are coming from.. But ideally somewhere with good transport links for those of us that rather let the train take the strain...
Nothing firm here, just a thought....
OH yea,,, if you are keen then can you just give me a hint where abouts you are based, so i can do abit of searching to find somewhere that is going to be okay.. Thanks
-
I'd be up for that!
-
Canterbury would be a good place :evillaugh:
London would be OK but not too many places where a group could meet up easily.
-
I would be up for it, college assignments & OH moving to South Africa permitting! I am in Ealing, London.
-
Yep works for me, Feb is a good time. Cantebury is fine, I can get there easily but would be nice more central to where everyone else lives. Oh dear... I just realised.. I get to meet Mark!!! :naughty:
-

:scared: I need to double check my diary - I may be busy all weekends in Feb :evillaugh:
I was thinking it might have been nicer to do it in March as Feb can be bitterly cold. End of March, we could eat outside etc.
-
You playing hard to get Mark??
-
A game I never played in case someone called my bluff :evillaugh:
-
Depending on when and where I'd be interested ;D
I'm in Woking, Surrey
-
Hi all
Well this is looking good... Most of you are London based, its a pretty easy journey for me to get to Victoria etc.. So it could be London is fine to met... Does anyone know a nice place between Ealing and Woking?
Actuall a year or so ago i organised another met up with some pals 44 turned up at a lovely resturant in Islington, then we went to the pub.. A great day so all possible...
Any more want to join us...
-
Depending on where it was and my financial crisis at the time and if I dont have to drive in centre of London, I maybe would come LOL
-
Not sure if Leigh has seen this thread yet, but he's in Kingston, so may be up for meeting ;D
-

Etc. being....have a ciggie! :evillaugh:
-
And that :evillaugh:
Not sure if I can go far as OH is only home at weekends usually depending on the contract so can't be away a whole day :(
-
Half-way point? Honestly I don't care where it is, I'll find my way there, can pick peeps up if it helps them.
Kent way too far East though, Surrey too far South/West, so South London where train lines can all get there (south of the river), Say London Bridge or Waterloo? That way peeps can get Tubes or drive.
Mark... to your earlier comment (you know the one :sneaky: ) .... poop! :naughty:
-
Hi folks,
Just saw this, I'm up for a meet up, sounds like good fun. I can get into London by public transport. Please keep us posted on plans.
Cheers
Leigh
-
oh :(
can i please be there in south east spirit??? i would like to include myself in the arrangements, but i wont actually be there cos i'm in stinkin aberdeen! (love it really... really i do... ) would love to have met you all though! i'm so homesick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :tired:
ps i think you should all go stay at marks!!!! i hear he does a great breakfast!!! :evillaugh:
-
I would love to join this merry band. I'm sure black cat and puddy would be interested as well. We are all in Medway.
-

Not any more I don't - it's funny but I am still getting a few calls despite removing the B&B from as many sites as poss. - It's so nice not having to be polite to everyone. I speak to people EXACTLY how they speak to me :evillaugh:
-
Seems we have a nice little gathering now.. Being that i am not from London does anyone know where abouts would be a suitable place to met up then perhaps we can find a nice pub for lunch....?
I It would have to be a weekend...
I did think of Bromley as that has a good few places to eat and is relatively easy to get too without some of us going right into London and thereby incurring costs of underground...
What are your thoughts pls...?
At the moment mid to late Feb would be better for me but flexiable. However, i have discovered that as with all these things its best to stick on a date otherwise we go round in circles...
-
Sharon, either way you see it, if we do Bromley, then the people from London are incurring costs, be it petrol or train... so London itself seems a more practical location so no one person is more out of pocket to get there than others? Don't mean to sound mean but if I get a tube I still have to pay for it, drive.. I have to pay for parking and petrol from North London... so to be fair to those in Ealing, Woking etc.. which are as far from Kent distance wise as those from London or west London it seems easier for peeps to meet in London.
I did suggest London Bridge or Waterloo earlier for those travelling by train and London peeps...?
-
London itself is probably easier for peeps to get to, especially if relying on public transport.
Waterloo would be a good meeting point in terms of being very central with trains from most areas arriving there, but don't know what else is around there in terms of pubs etc to get some grub.
I've no idea about London Bridge, never been there lol :)
-
As long as it is this London Bridge
(http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/uk-london-bridge.jpg)
and not this London Bridge
(http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/0175_london_brlake_havasu_az_s0001393.jpg)
as I can't afford that much shoe leather ;D
Cheers

-
Get the point entirely Waterloo seems a happy compromise...! Its also a place we can hopefully arrange a good meeting point to...
Will be back with some dates asap...
-
Even if we organise a time to actually meet in the station itself, can either be outside a particular shop or by the Eurostar bit, anything like that really :)
-
There's a lot more outside Waterloo Station than inside it, but a good meeting point is in the station, Clare, as you say, then we can wear our crazy cat lady badges :evillaugh:
-
Yay, sounds like a plan :wow:
-
What we need is a mascot. Something large and visible that we all recognise... and a schmuck to hold it high in the air!
When I arranged a similar event a few years back, I took my large Teddy Bear and everyone attending just looked for the gaggle of people standing around the Bear. No one got lost or faced the embarassment of going up to the wrong people. 8)
-
So I'm guessing a giant fluffy cat toy is the choice then ;D
-
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you..
Can anyone do
Sat 23rd
Sunday 24th Feb
Or 8th March
If we say met up 12 noon for lunch, natter and then most people will be able to get home before nighfall if they need to .
-
So I'm guessing a giant fluffy cat toy is the choice then ;D
Or one of us can dress up in a "Puss in Boots" costume hun ;D
I'm busy this weekend (24th/25th) so the 8th March sounds good to me.
Cheers
Leigh
-
I can do 23 or 24th
-
I can do any of those (yeah sad I know) :-:
-
I can do any of those dates so far.
Leigh, are you volunteering for the job of dressing up hun ;)
-
Leigh, are you volunteering for the job of dressing up hun ;)
Only at the weekends hun ;D ;D
-
-
We're still in limbo with OH's move, so 8th March may be better for me. But I can't really plan anything too firmly at the moment - so I really hope I can come whenever it is!
-
This weekend is way too close ( I already have two alternatives I could be doing). but 8 March is achievable. I agree (sadly) that London is the obvious choice as all public transport routes lead to London. I will put it in my diary now so I can be sure to get there .... ;D
-
Not this weekend Jo, Sharon means weekend of 23/24 Feb.
-
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, sorry, confused. Can not type becaues a) smigeen is on my annds and b) sahadiw s leaning on the keyboard with his head looking ucte and appealing - apparently toad in the hole is dog food???
-
Hi all
If we keep it March 8th it would seem that only Dawn would have a problem making it.. Everybody else can do the 8th but not the only dates...
Dawn is the 8th totally out for you...?
-
March 8th it is for me.
-
Mmmm, I might be lurking in London around then - if so, I hope I can join in! ;D
I *am* rather skint though. :tired:
-
I sadly am just too broke now and the car is sick to add to the problem :'(
-
my oh gets back from italy on 7 March so I think it might not go down too well if I rush off to London on 8th! Not a problem next time!
-
I'll pencil it in...
-
I'm due in Spain the following week so will have to watch pennies too, but it doesn't need to be expensive at all. Even a morning tea or something like that.
-
I still can't decide until the last minute as OH has been away all week most of the time for the last 2 years and Saturday is our only full day really - Sunday is preparing for the next week. Also I have to watch money as I only have some money left over from the B&B which is depleting rapidly - a cheap day return to London is £20 as well
-
Parking for me will be about that too Mark. Its why I say we do something cheaply so everyone gets to enjoy it.
-
Defo agree with cheaply here too ;)
-
March 8th it is then... No worries people i wasnt thinking of going somewhere really posh to have lunch or anything.. Besides it was a few months back since i raided a bank.. and no i am just living on interest....
The reason i said noon is then you dont have to pay the early rate for trains... If we can meet at Waterloo, that would be good.. Lunch, natter and then if people have to leave no problems..
Mark weekend cheap day return is about 12.00 but it may of gone up since last year.. I have one of those network rail cards and they are def worth the money..
Forms of identification to be sorted out later.. But in the meantime pls make a note in your diaries be nice to see some of you..
-
Might be able to make it on 8th but not sure yet.
-
the 8th works for me, I'm also with the "cheaply" bit so I'll start walking now ;D
Cheers
Leigh
-
Apologies I have been offline for a while, is it too late to gateceash this gathering? ;)
-
Nah, the more the merrier. Imagine the waiting staff's faces with all of us together. Seriously we need a big kitty plush. I have a orange Garfield but no way could you pay me enough to be standing there holding him
-
Hi all
I will try to put a list together a week or so before the met up and if need be PM you mobile number..
Would appreciate if anyone local to Waterloo can let me know how to get their via Victoria line.. or London Bridge (as i can get a train direct to london bridge) i dont know London that well.
Thanks all, so we agree on any kind of cat mofit.. Clothing, scarf, badge....etc... Just so all know..
Can anyone tell me if there is a cafe that people can wait at outside or inside the station... I have only been there once at it was very late..
Ta

sorry, I refse point blank to appear in london wearing cat motifs!! :shify: I do have a small black stuffed toy cat that I might be persuaded to carry but perhaps if we choose alocation in Waterloo station that is easily recognisable even for newcomers that might be a better choice ...
-
I'm going up to Waterloo tomorrow evening so I'll have a wander and see if there's a suitable meeting point where peeps can get a coffee or summat, its proabably easier to stay inside the station until we're all together, then we can wander off to get some lunch thereafter?
-

actually that has enough style and idiosyncracity I might be tempted. But getting on and off the train could be tricky cos I would forget my head all the time. Also, I suspect I would make a rather cuddlier kitty than she does.
-
What a pity it's not the summer or I'd wear my new "The Mogfather" T.Shirt although this one would also fit the bill....................

Canterbury Cats - from London Bridge just take the Jubilee line tube to Waterloo, it's really easy. If all are welcome, hope to see you, but can only decide at the very last minute if that's ok?
-
or if you catch the Charing Cross train, instead of the one to Cannon Street, it will stop at Waterloo East and you just follow the signs....
-
Thanks all.. If i take the victoria route and end up at Victoria station that i know well do i just head towards Waterloo on the underground there or do i have to change..!
Sorry London isnt me, i hate the crowds...! But then again thats what cities are like...
The more the merrier!
-
I'll be there!
Waterloo is great choice as I can get a direct train from New Malden.
Shall we meet under the clock wearing red carnations Del Boy style?
-
If you end up at Victoria you will need to get on the underground to Green Park on Victoira line North bound.....one stop, and then change to Jubilee Line and go southbound to Waterloo.......3 stops.
-
or if you catch the Charing Cross train, instead of the one to Cannon Street, it will stop at Waterloo East and you just follow the signs....
From where we live, the train only goes to Victoria at weekends. Weekdays, during rush hour, alternate trains go to London Bridge/Cannon Street. I suppose chaging at Chavham is an option :evillaugh:
-

Hi Lyn-Su,
I forgot we lived so close to each other as I'm only in Kingston so I'll be doing the same and getting the train from here.
Cheers
Leigh
-
I forgot to look for suitable meeting places last night as I was rushing to and from trains :evillaugh:, but still reckon the top end by the Eurostar is probably less busy than the other end (near Platform 1), and there's a Costa Coffee up there too as well as the loos, so all bases are covered
-
Hi hun,
whenever I've met up at Waterloo it's always been under the big clock in the middle, I'm usually the one with the red carnation and a copy of the Gaurdian ;D ;D
cheers
Leigh
-
Haven't heard anything on this for a while, is it still going ahead? ;D
-

-
Hope so, but will be babysitter dependent for me as OH will be in South Africa by then.
-

-
Defo a yes for me, and I'm working on Tessa as well to see if she'll come too :naughty:
-
Good heavens is this close?
8 March if memory serves ... it is now the 22 February and we are in a leap year so that makes it two weeks one day by my reckoning, or two weeks tomorrow ... :wow:
-
All being well, I should be there. Am thinking of sporting one of Pearl's red show rosettes... ;)
-
Yep I'm there. Looking forward to it.
-
I'll be there
What time are we meeting?
-
Hi All,
Sorry to jump in on your post but hopefully this may help....
The most famous meeting point in London has to be under the clock at Waterloo Station, that said if you are going to be arriving at different times you may want a sit down wait. There are various bars at Waterloo... http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/29/2968/Reef_Bar/Waterloo is on the station concourse, as is a Burger King (yuk!), Costa Coffee (though I tend to think Costa is rather expensive) and The Wellesley pub downstairs opposite platforms 3&4..... http://fancyapint.com/pubs/pub3347.html Here's a pic of the station http://www.urban75.org/vista/waterloo3.html
I belong to a social networking club that frequently meet up in pubs, the organiser prints a couple of A4 sheets which are put on the pub table so we can be easily identified to newcomers. Yours could say something like PIOH Meeting Point.
Whenever I meet people near Waterloo we tend to end up at http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/restaurants/the-fire-station-review-1804.html which is very close to the station. It's trendy fusion food not a traditional pub and the prices reflect this, so may not be best for those on a budget. A few minutes walk to Blackfriars Bridge brings you to a famous pub... http://www.doggettscoatandbadge.co.uk/index.html. It's popular with tourists as it's right on the river, the food is reasonably priced but nothing to write home about.... just typical pub grub. If you walk along Upper Ground instead of Stamford Street to get there you'll pass Gabriel's Wharf on the way that has various eateries, but I haven't been there for several years so I'm not sure what's open at weekends and can only supply a link for you to research... http://www.london-se1.co.uk/places/gabriels-wharf. You'll also pass http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/30/3089/Mulberry_Bush/Southwark which was my regular lunchtime haunt when I worked in Upper Ground, but that was 15 years ago and times change! I've never been but believe this place is also popular http://www.timeout.com/london/bars/reviews/11577.html
Of course Waterloo is also right next to the Southbank Centre if you fancy a stroll after lunch, there's normally plenty going on there. Plus the London Eye is just a few minutes walk if you fancy it. Waterloo station is also very close to The Cut where there are quite a few bars & restaurants, http://www.london-se1.co.uk/restaurants/info/111/the-cut-bar-and-restaurant at the Young Vic has had good reviews though I have never been.
Anyway, have fun :)
-
Hay Clare, what you roped me into now
-
Oh I'll be at Crufts on that day otherwise I might have come.
-
YOu'd miss a purrs get-together for a dog show!!! where are your priorities
-
YOu'd miss a purrs get-together for a dog show!!! where are your priorities
I plan a year ahead for Crufts .. in fact I'll start planning for next years one when I get back from this years    I gotta support Molly's flyball team who have qualified again .... we won last year! Well the team not us, because Molly was naughty.
-
ah, well if you are competing that is a completely different matter! :wow: I always felt that Shadow had an aptitude for agility. If we had stayed in Brisbane I would have had him in the comps ...
-
I havent yet managed to get a list of those that are coming but the other post (thank you) can we agree to met at the Costa Coffee place at Waterloo station at noon on March 8th... We will hang around for 1/2 hour or so before moving on..
All those that are coming i can PM you my mobile number if you want it.. as will not be too sure where we move onto. But it will probably be a nice local restuarant..
Going to be hard to make sure everyone knows everyone else. I dont have a purr badge....I think out of everybody i have only met blackcat.... I have a Cats Protection badge if thats any help....
-
I think you will all have to wear red roses or something
Or maybe a placard saying Purrs peeps here :shify:
-
I did have a Purrs badge, but can't find it  Will have to get another one lol
-
Clare you had it last at the cat show :evillaugh: I was thinking of bringing my white cat with me... No not Frank but the one I got for Christmas
-
Clare you had it last at the cat show :evillaugh: I was thinking of bringing my white cat with me... No not Frank but the one I got for Christmas
Yeah I know lol, somewhere between then and now I've had a major tidy up at home and its gone Awol..... no matter, I've made a new one ;D
-
I can definitely come - OH's relocation has gone back yet another week so no problems babysitting. You'll know me - I am the one with the scratches all up my hands and covered in cat hair!
-
Remember we want pictures and verbatum report of what you all talked about , ate and did

I have direction to London waterloo I am coming from the SE way and it goes to Waterloo East.. So i hope that this is the same place everyone else has posted about.
I have a CP badge so perhaps other people can wear a badge or something.. Meeting at Costa Coffee noon.. Sat 8th March... Claremax has my mobile number just incase you may be late and wish to know where we went off to have lunch..Of course some of you may already know each other..
When i find a suitable photo (i.e not horrid like) i will post a photo of myself so you know who i am..!!
-
i would like to be there in spirit please - as an awol part of the south east massive
have heaps of fun - like gill says, we want to hear all about it :)

-
My pic is in the gallery too.
By the way, its Tessa, not Teresa, unless there is another Teresa coming?
Really looking forward to next week ;D
-
Yeah, I said I'd be there all being well. Will be bussing it to Waterloo. :) Have attached a pic of myself, but unfortunately I won't be bringing Pearl... :evillaugh:
-
I have now updated the list..!
Also. Is Waterloo West the righrt place because thats where i am heading too.. Be abit daft if i ended up at a different place... !!!
-
waterloo east is a separate station but they are so closely linked it is not trouble to get from one to the other. The main Waterloo station is easy to find as there are heaps of signs to show the way. I too will be coming up on the kent line so we may even be travelling in the same carriage. I could always bring Shadow who would be easy to spot, but that would restrict us to outdoor venues to meet, which may not be favoured by the weather. Have only been into Waterloo a couple of times myself but it is not that complicated ...
-
Hi blackcat, thanks for that... Will you be coming from Chatham as thats where i have to change? If so perhaps we can met up....? So i dont end up in Coventry or something... !
-
yep, travelling up from Chatham that morning. Perhaps we can agree a carriage to travel in? I have a friend who is convinced she absolutely must travel in the second carriage from the front so perhaps that would do?
-
Will probably bus it too, drove past last night and parking is going to be a nightmare around the Southbank. Witty getting the 76 down on Southgate Road.
Mark, are you not joining us?
-

That would be good blackcat will come back mid week with times that my train leaves. I have to change at Chatham so if you let me know what one you aiming for..
Ta
-
crikey. you're organised, left to my own devices would probably have looked it up on the night before. Ho hum. Will get onto the national rail site and see what I can organise ... 8)
-
OK, the 10:48 from Chatham (Charing Cross service) gets into Waterloo East at 11:54. It is a stopping train so a long trip, but the only one that goes direct to Waterloo East. Since it is my ambition in life to avoid the tube where-ever possible, it seems the most attractive option to me. What do you reckon?
-

Unlikely as I get so little time with OH that it would not go down well me disappearing off for the day. He complains that the weekend is too short as it is :tired: Shame it's not midweek but I understand most people have jobs :evillaugh:

Is the Costa coffee on the main Waterloo station or is there another at Waterloo East? I only know main Waterloo, and am easily confused! I am sure I can find wherever so long as I know where to aim for!
-
just to confuse you further Lucy, I thought we were meeting under the clock! I suggest that on the friday night we post a clear agreement as to what we are doing when ... It was my understanding that we met at noon under the clock at Waterloo (the main station). If anyone arrives early they can easily grab a coffee and wait elsewhere as long as they are under the clock at noon ;D
-

Sounds a good idea.

Ruth, I was planning on getting the 341. Can always change that if you fancy bussing together?

Blackcat.. Couldnt log onto NRE yesterday so will be in touch re times.. Hopefully we can met up ...

Of course forgot 341 goes that way. I was just going to pick up the 76 but the 341 at Newington Green? Happy to meet up there if you're keen.
-
Say hello to my old flat as you pass it :)
Just off Newington Green, in Mildmay Park, where the train line crosses over on the right, south side. A raised ground floor flat - I do miss it :(

Thought i have better post a photo here.. This is me and Leo..!

Mildmay South or North in fact.. those houses are gorgeous Mark!!!! Drive past them now and again when I take my short cuts ;) Nice part of town to be in right now.
-
My road was mildmay park. Mildmay grove north & south run either side of the train track. They are lovely but I only had a raised ground floor garden flat, not a whole one :-:
My road was the one the bus runs along.

Of course forgot 341 goes that way. I was just going to pick up the 76 but the 341 at Newington Green? Happy to meet up there if you're keen.
Yeah Ruth, why not? I have to walk a couple of stops back towards Newington Green but it's an excuse to walk off the walnut cake I've consumed this evening... :evillaugh: You getting a 141 and then changing?
I know where you mean Mark, it's just beyond the library if you come in from the Balls Pond Road end of Mildmay Park. ;)
-
OK, the 10:48 from Chatham (Charing Cross service) gets into Waterloo East at 11:54. It is a stopping train so a long trip, but the only one that goes direct to Waterloo East. Since it is my ambition in life to avoid the tube where-ever possible, it seems the most attractive option to me. What do you reckon?
Blackcat i am trying to work out where that train somes from.. I am coming from Herne Bay and will need to change at Chatham but have yet to work otu if i can join you on the 10.48... Timetables are not my thing!

That's it ;D - I was on the corner of Mildmay Park and Mildmay Grove south
I miss the cafe in Balls Pond Road. They did a huge all-day breakfast (Which we often had at 6.30pm) with a mug of lovely Lavazza filter coffee for about £3.50

Okidoke. I'm 141'ing it down to Newington Green and can wait for you there, will PM you so we can time it.
Mark, I know the one. Yes, those are still nice main road and all. They're selling for a bomb now though, you can sometimes see inside when you're on the bus and some of them look absolutely stunning.

Hello all
I am posting this today so that you have time post if you have any queries.
Therefore we are meeting at noon at the clock tower Waterloo Station Saturday 8th March.. There is apparently a Costa Coffee nearby should you arrive early and no one standing that looks like us by the tower.. we will hang around for 15 minutes or so but then move onto for lunch to be decided by the group.
Some of you have my mobile number, but some of you are travelling together. So if you need to track us down to where we went if you are late then please do..
I have posted a photo of me and will hopefully be travelling with Blackcat as we are coming from the same area. I have a CP badge on a usually wear a white sharf (as it gets very chilly in railway stations)...
This was the last up to date list of people attending... My train gets in at 11.54am so hope to see you there.
I hope thats it, but if i have forgotten anything pls post. Black cat will PM you later with details of my train, but it looks as though its the same one!

That's a pity Lyn-Su, maybe another time. Hopefully others will see this, but if not, I'll let them know when we get there.

Hope everyone has a safe journey home

Hello all, we had a lovely (if chilly) day in London, taking in all the sights and having a good old natter. It was soooooo good to meet some of you and to have chance to put faces to avatars and to get to know you as people rather than as entities at the other end of the computer screen!!! We even had a small supporter who got dressed up especially for the occasion!
we arrived at Waterloo and managed to find each other easily and then off to the London Eye, where we paused for a photoshoot
(http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee203/shadowtalker/014.jpg)
and another one with less of the Eye and more of Witty
and so on to Eat at Festival Hall, where we had to take an outside table as it was so crowded. Here we all made complete fools of ourselves
(http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee203/shadowtalker/016.jpg)
before crossing the river to Trafalgar Square where we found somewhere a little warmer to sit and enjoy some particularly ravishing desserts. But not before another photo opportunity
(http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee203/shadowtalker/020.jpg)
all in all a great day out in beautiful frozen London!
-
Well done Jo, great piccies ;D
I just knew I was going to regret that one when we were eating
-

never trust a blackcat with a camera!! :evillaugh:
-
I really enjoyed meeting up and chatting! Nice to see there are real people behind the computer screen. Hope you all had OK trips home. I can't believe the pics were up before I got back!
-
Pity it was so cold BUT here in Yorkshire it's also been raining and very windy all day too.
Glad you all had a brill time - was going to ask if it was Leigh in the cat suit BUT then I saw him in the other photos!! :naughty: :evillaugh:
Mary
-
Glad you all had a great time :wow: Who is who? Can you do a L to R on the second London Eye pic perhaps?
-
see if this works - not sure if the font size is large enough ... nope, not big enough - back soon with another version ...
-
Glad everyone had a good time.. Nice to met everybody and good turn out as well
Got home around 5.30ish.. Now off for a cuppa!
-
Evening all. :)
I had a bit of a snooze when I got home, my chest was pretty awful, as poor Witty could see, and it had nothing to do with chatting away for hours!!
I had such a fun time meeting all you, so bring on the next one!!!
Another photo, in front of the London Eye, since Jo took the ones with me in them, I took one with her! (you thought you could get out of that! Ha!) And you shall pay for the photo of us eating.. didn't even see you take that! :shify:

L-R: Clare, Sharon (back), Lucy (back), Witty (front), Tessa, Jo and Leigh.

Hope you're feeling a bit better now Ruth, you didn't have much voice left by the time we all said our goodbyes !
-
Fab fotos we look cool  :Luv2:
-
yes, barely a hint of crazy cat lady there ... lol. And Leigh, I am still tickled that you thought it necessary to introduce yourself -the lonely petunia in the onion patch ;D
-

Great image!
-
Hi folks,
I really enjoyed meeting you all earlier and had a fun time chatting with you all. It could have been a bit warmer but what the heck it's England and it's March so what can one expect? the conversation was warming :).
"Petunia"! (Clark) :), wish I had her money and her voice for that matter, no one's ever called me that, well in the week that is but I supose it is the weekend :), oh you mean the flower! :) :)
Great pics, we shall definitely have to do that again before too long.
Thought I should introiduce myself as I was in cogneot 5n cogneto incornetto disguised
All the best
Leigh
PS. Just got a spam e-mail inviting me to "Become more elegant" these pics posted on the internet get everywhere don't they?!, :censored: cheek! that was my best "man about town" look!, oh well back to the drawing board. :)
-
never trust a blackcat with a camera!! :evillaugh:
Hey Jo, that's usually my line! :poke: :evillaugh: :pic sneek:
Actually, it was brilliant fun, I thoroughly enjoyed the day - was great to spend lots of time talking cat with a bunch of like-minded folks. Was soo good to meet you all, some for the first time, some once again after the National. :agree: Thanks for making the bus journeys enjoyable Ruth, hope you feel better soon and please give Princess Lexy a chin tickle from me.
I think we must have eaten and drunk all the healthyfood in Garfunkels... :evillaugh:
Hope I managed to purrsuade some of you to come to Cam Cat in Stevenage on the 29th. ;)
-
Great to see you all in the pictures.......at least London was dry LOL,
Pleased you had a good time and you did a lot of walking!
-
Great to see all the wonderful purrs people in the photo ;D So glad you had a good day ;D
-
Glad you had such a great time and it is nice to put faces to names. Hope next time I can make it.
-
...at least London was dry LOL,
It might have looked it in the photos but it was wet. And cold. Ergo our escapade in Garfunkles to get out of the cold :evillaugh:

-
Sounds like you all had a good time - I couldn't make that date but would love to join you when you next meet up.
-
The more the merrier ;D
Hopefully the next one will be when its much warmer, and the day much longer, so can take it more sight, maybe even a gallery, go for a mooch around Covent Garden, loads of possibilities :)
-
How about the London Wetland Centre at Barnes? Easier to get to than it sounds and a brilliant day out ;D
-
How about the London Wetland Centre at Barnes? Easier to get to than it sounds and a brilliant day out ;D
Is that a place that requires swimsuits, or one where wildlife hangs out? If the former, you can firmly count me out!!!
-
Defo no swimsuits here either

It is reportedly the best urban site in Europe to watch wildlife: http://www.wwt.org.uk/centre/119/visit/wetlandcentre/.html and I am a member so can arrange group rates ;D
-
dang, and i thought the RSPB's site at Rainham Marshes was that!!! Sound like a day I would enjoy, don't know about others. Do they have a centre there that does food? (my other priority for entertainment, lol)
-
Here here!! And a day when we're all in good health too. Achoo!
-
snuffle groan - am actually feeling better (well, physically at least, won't even begin to start on the work situation ... >:( )
-
Me not. Been in bed since Sunday. No happy. Christine I like the location.
-

The food there is actually rather good (roasts, pastas etc as well as a huge variety of delicious salads, sandwiches and excellent home-baked cakes). No, I do not do the PR :evillaugh:
-
so Ruth, I am guessing you didn't do the three cities tour then. Poor you. It was a particularly nasty cold, I have to say. I am just lucky that i have the sort of system that wards off that sort of thing fairly rapidly ... YOu must be feeling really miserable
-
Actually, that sounds quite cool - but may necessitate bringing a
camera brick on my part. :evillaugh:
Other suggestion is either science / natural history or V&A in my old stomping ground of South Ken.
-
Actually on the way back from our meeting.. I thought about another venue.. Considering we are all involved in rescue (one way or another some of us equally may be interested in rescue if not actually involved hands on) i thought it would be nice to visit s rescue.. The only one i could think of was Battersea.. Maybe they do educational tours etc of their faciliites.. I would find this particularly interesting.. I am sure there are others more centrally based.. It maybe that some are not so keen but it would be great PR for them.
Anyhows just a though... !
-
So glad that some of you managed to meet up and wish I wasn't so far away :tired:
The photos are fab and it's nice to see faces to put with the names :) maybe one day there could be a meeting in the Midlands ;D
Ruth I shall meet you one day missus :evillaugh:
-
All good suggestions for our next meet, particularly the idea of visiting a rescue. Trouble is, how many babes will we have signed up to take home by the end of it :evillaugh:
-
I like that sound of that Sharon
-
I am not sure i have the time to research London rescues that would in principal host "Purrs" people for a few hours. It would also have to be easily accessiable via public transport.. But if people where in principal up to the idea a few key rescues could be approached, they can always say no!
Some of the larger rescues i thought would be only to keen to get the word out about how they work and i am sure they all do an educational program. Perhaps there are Purrs people here with links to some of those rescues that could suss them out and see what they think.. Even if they asked for a small donation i would be happy, as i am all up for abit of networking..
Anyhows over to everybodies thoughts
-
One more thing.. This would obv be for the summer months...
-
I have been to Battersee but only as a member of general public and of course theybare so much more into dogs than cats, although they take in a lot of cats.
Being very close to the Battersea Park it would also make a nice day out if the weather was good.
If you can find a way to see the non-public part Of Battersea that would be nice and I really hope I will be able to afford to come cos this is close to where I used to live and would have time to go back maybe and be nosy LOL.
Battersea is one stop out Of victoria and the Norbury trains stop there, I used to live Norbury/Streatham.
There is of course Celia Hammond Trust, dont know if they would let you visit and not sure where they are based.........East London??
-
In the early 80's, I went with a flatmate to get a kitten from there. No questions were asked, and he was handed a kitten alive with fleas. I hope they have changed since then >:(
-
Lexy came from Battersea, as did my mother's cat. I think they're pretty good now, and have an equal sized cattery to kennels.
-
I think it's all different now Mark, I've had dealings with the branch at Windsor and they seem pretty good
-
Definately Mark ;D
Its quite a performance to rehome a cat from there
-
Even then I was amazed that they had flea-ridden kittens - now it is beyond belief
To finish the story. I had met this flatmate as there was a room to rent on the noticeboard in the club I worked in. After a few weeks, I moved out as he turned out to be a complete psycho. After I moved out, he started spreading stories that I had thrown the kitten from the window (it was a tower block :scared: ) I wondered if he had and every now and then, I wonder what happened to that poor kitten :'(
-
The photos are fab and it's nice to see faces to put with the names :) maybe one day there could be a meeting in the Midlands ;D
I'd be well up for a bit of a Midlands meet!
-
The Mayhew would probably welcome such a visit, but it is a bit inaccessible :(
-
Battersea would be interesting and we can then retire to Battersea Park which is a lovely place and worth a visit. There are also venues for food round there that are worth going to...

Where I lived for a long while as a kid (not actually in the park you understand!) . It would be great to have another outing wherever once the weather improves though! :wow:
-
I remember going to Battersea Park around 1976 or so and they had a fun fair there. They were filming for a hospital TV series called "Angels" - we got to go on the carousel for about an hour while they filmed. Theis ended up as about 3 seconds on screen :evillaugh:
-
So glad that some of you managed to meet up and wish I wasn't so far away :tired:

Great suggestion! I am in Shrewsbury-do you know it at all? Is there anyone else near the Midlands?
-
Perhaps I should start a new thread for suggetsions of a Midlands based Purrs Social?
Hmm yes, that sounds like a good idea! (really must stop talking to oneself lol!)
-
Going back to SE Social, anyone up to ringing Battersea and see what they think.. !
-
I don't mind emailing - can't ring anyone here is is quiet as the grave!!
-
That would be much appreciated Dawn..
-
this is what I heard back from Battersea - what to people think?
Dear Dawn,
Thank you for your email.
We conduct talks and tours of the Home between 10.00am – 12.00noon Monday to Friday, usually lasting for 1-2 hours. Do you have any dates in mind? How many are there in the group?
Once we have a date agreed I can send you a confirmation form and also an information sheet on what to expect on the day.
Kind regards,
Marion Jones
Information Officer
Battersea Dogs & Cats Home
-
Unless its a bank holiday I can't do weekdays so will have to give it a miss I'm afraid.
-
I think most people will feel the same Ruth, maybe we should approach someone else
-
Same here I'm afraid, I'm at work all week.
-
Maybe Celia Hammond or Cinnamon Trust?
-
You could always go to see the wildcats at wildwood ;)
or how about the CP headquarters in Sussex.
With either of those, a SE & SW social could be done at the same time?
-
Where is Wildwood Mark?
-
It's Between Canterbury & Herne Bay. There is a regular bus from Canterbury. As far as I know, it's the only place outside Scotland with Wildcats.
-
All sounds very South and SE to me
Not sure how SW got involved ;D
-
CP HQ is somewhere near gatwick so that's a bit more west? :evillaugh:
-
Just a bit
Maybe you were meanong SW London :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
-
Cp HQ want be open over a weekend. Tried that already... Could maybe ask Howletts Zoo although not for anyone they do wonderful work with rare tigers and gorillas releasing them back into the wild.. Just a thought..
-
I want to go to Howletts but probably too much of a trek for London and beyond people. May be possible to do Port Lympne in the same day?
http://www.totallywild.net/howletts/

If anyone from Purrs fancies a cat-filled afternoon out on Saturday, there is the Cambridgeshire Cat Club show in Stevenage. It's at the Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre in Lytton Way (just opposite the station), show open to the public from 12:30.
