Well i for one am very grateful for this thread, the receptionist at my vet didn't know about Milbemax and kidney issues, so if I wormed Zi as often as I should, she could have been quite poorly by now - the only reason I dont is that the only time she leaves the house is to go to the vets.

Teresa I wasn't suggesting that something had happened at your own rescue and you were keeping quiet about it, I was meaning that you might of heard something of consern and reason for posting this thread!

Teresa, can I ask what sort of symptoms you were meaning?

Rossi had his Milbemax (1/2 tablet and he weighs just over 4kg - vet said 1/2 tab was fine for that weight as 1 tablet treats up to 8kg - so the correct dose) on 14/9/10 and on Sunday (26/9/10) spent the entire night vomiting and had a worryingly high temperature but all bloods (kidney, liver, wbc, etc) were normal.

He spent 2 days in the vets being monitored and has had various antibiotics, an anti-emetic, anti-inflammatories, and appears to be OK now but we are waiting for the (hopefully) all clear on Monday.

Thanks for that Teresa.  I didn't know and have always given Freddie a whole tablet before now and he is certainly less than 4kg nowadays and just above normal range on kidney tests.

I was talking to the receptionist and they have offered to help me get Drontal into mine, so we shall try Drontal next time they are due

We use Drontal too, but I can honestly say I can't remember when we last did them, may have been June/July time. We only do it twice a year really.

Always used Drontal and never had a problem with it and found it always works every time very quickly.

Yep, and while his bloods show both those organs are fine, he does have anaemia, protein in his wee and kidneys on the large end of the normal scale, all of whcih would indicate kidney issues. Better keep a close eye on him and speak to the vet tomorrow.

Isnt Buster the one being investigated?

Buster has just been done today with Milbemax - he was weighed on Tues before the vet dispensed it due to a typo on his weight last week!! I was shocked at the price though - it was £12.22 for a Milbemax and one tin of A/D. The girls were done with Stronghold and Droncit earlier in the year, they dont get wormed very often though as they dont leave the house. I think i generally order one when they get vac'd purely because they get weighed at the same time. I really struggle with Drontal, and the one downside to getting it online is you might not know the weight of your cat.

I use milbemax because its smaller, I don't use it every 3 months though probably twice a year

Have to say ours are all weighed twice a year at the vet on injection/Programme visits them Programme only visits - all except Ace and Blue cause we can't get near them  - but both are about 5.5kgs going by the their sizes compared to the others

I gave Jaffa and Mosi a drontal tablet a week or so ago.  I have always used drontal for worming for no other reason than that is what the vet has always given me (I buy online now as it's cheaper).  Never had any adverse reactions and I find it fairly easy to pill them.

I always worm a couple of days after treating them for fleas as the vet said "Otherwise I may as well not do them" I use Drontal on all my cats and no side effects although it is a wrestle to get them down some of them as they see them come out and leg it lol.  My cats do not go out but are still done about 3 or 4 times a year.

Nothing for anyone to worry about. However I would make sure that cats/kittens are weighed acurately before being treated with Milbemax.

Don't do it often, may be once a year and get one from the vets after their health check and I'm given Profender.

I am worried about this  cos Misa is off to be checked out on Monday and will be boostered, frontlined and wormed..............this only happens once a year and he is givem alittle tablet for worming, cant remember if its drontal or millibax, but its tiny.

Then Sasa will be going......sigh, will be boostered, given a worming injection and stronghold.

Should I be worried about any of this and change Mondays arrangements?

Sasa is usually given a sopt-on wormer but because I want her strongholded this time, mainly for her ears, she will have to have a worming injection, which she had two years ago when she was sedated to have closer check.

I haven't yet wormed Noah as he is indoor only and I get to inspect all 'doings'.  I did buy some wormer from VetUK but have since lost it. Am I a very bad meowmy?

Only use Milbemax on the "big" uns now as Drontal too big and obviously tastes horrid from previous reactions.  A bit hit and miss; maybe every 6 months or so.

9 week old newbie just vaccinated (inc Felv) and really knocked him for six for most of the rest of the day; was quite worried but much better by next morning.  As it happens, I forgot to pick up the panacur sachet altho vet prescribed at same time as spot on flea/wormer the week before only covered roundworm.  I collected it 2 days after vac and then young un refused to eat the 1st meal I applied it to (doesn't seem to like cod Felix kitten food) so panacur given about 3 days after 1st vac and no side effects.

I haven't voted as Rossi hasn't been wormed since 1st July, but when he's due for his (3-monthly) worming tablet in a couple of weeks, it'll be Milbemax. The vet gave him his previous one in June at the same time as his 2nd vaccination and he didn't have any reaction to that.

Used a shop-bought one (Bob Martin?) with Bazza in the past but as there are something like up to 12 tablets (depending on cat's weight) that you have to get into them at intervals over a 2/3-weekly period, the Milbemax seems a much easier option!

Before I knew of the ineffectiveness and risk involved, I used shop bought. I now use drontal.

We use Millibex - easier to hide for the ferals and small enough to hide in various things as worming most of the Clan ferals is an artform with a spreadsheet!

We use Drontal on the big domestics - all 6kgs plus and use teh trusty Pill popper for that

Baby Charlie has had Panacur and a Kitten Millibex

Riley and Harper have both been profendered whilst having the boy bits removed and will be getting Millibex in a nice treat

We worm every 3 months although it sometimes takes me a tad longer with the ferals as they are naturally suspicious of some of the things I try to bribe them with

September is the start of wrming for us and I do worm the indoor outdoors inbetween times if they having been eating what they have been catching

I use Profender from the vets. Spot On. The only problem we have with it, is that it leaves their black fur with a chalky looking patch on them.

Just coming up for boosters this month as well as wormer, but will do it seperate.

I tend to use Milbemax for the rescue cats, and Drontal for our own cats.  I love the small size of the Milbemax, but it is pricey in comparison to Drontal.

I don't ever vaccinate and worm the same day, I just feel it is too much for a cat's system.

Don''t worm that regularly as none catch anything and don''t go out that much -but have only ever used Milbemax -no bad reactions from any of them .

Used to use Drontal but same as Mark I just could not get it down in one and ended up with the cats foaming and a soggy tablet. So was glad when Milbermax was introduced at my vets - so much easier.

When my cats are vaccinated, the vet also gives the Milbermax - no adverse effects (Also used to administer the drontal previously). Cats are 14 years and 8 years old and have been wormed since kittens.
In fact Chelsea is going for her boosters and wormer next week - should I be worried 

The only thing we do not do at the same time as vacs and worming is the spot on deflea.

I selected Drontal and Milbemax but also use Advocate inbetween.  I only use wormers every 3 months as cats are indoor but do eat some raw.

Mine are a bit strange because Raffiki is always off colour if he has milbemax so has to have Drontal but Mellika is not good with Drontal ?  So 5 of them have milbemax and Raffi has Drontal.

I know our Bengal breeder does not like to use Milbemax.

Have never wormed or de flead at the same time as boosters

I use Advocate - once a year for Trigger and Tiffany, who stay in the enclosed garden, and every three months for Tosker, who goes over the fence

I havent wormed since that date, I only do 2-3 times a year anyway, but usually Drontal or Milbemax. I also don't do anything at the same time as boosters (which are irregular too). Use to use Panacur Favourites, but don't know if they still do those? they were easy to give as cats thought they were treats! Drontal and Milbemax I give in cheese, wrapped in ham, or small cube of meat.

Did once have a bad reaction to Drontal - Joe went wobbly on his legs, but that was years ago.
