Hi guys!
After arguing with myself on the South East Social thread (lol) I decided it would be an idea to start a thread for suggestions for a midlands based Purrs Social. This could be Birmingham puurhaps, or any other ideas???
Cheers guys!
-
I'm in! I'm more of a Notts girl but travelling over to Brum ain't no thing.
We could rope the Northerners to pop down too. I get a nose bleed if I go south of Coventry :evillaugh:
-
The more the merrier! Brum is about an hour on the train from me, but I commute there every day so its no biggie. Also thought its a good base for people.
Any northerners interested? :evillaugh:
-
I am a midlands girl at heart :naughty:
I can go if its anywhere like Coventry, Birmingham, Nottingham, Derby etc ;D
-
I can get anywhere that I can get a direct train from Leeds (otherwise I'll get lost in a train station).
-
I'd be interested if there's a meet in Coventry or Brum & Mr 'J' wants to ask if he can come along too if it involves any drinking establishment which serves real ale :)
-
Just noticed this thread :see: :evillaugh:
I am in Rugby so Coventry, Brum or the like would be ok :)
Hopefully it will be in the warmer weather ;)
-
Just thought i would hijack this thread..
Well done for getting the ball rolling on this.. Having arranged a few things like this.. Its often once one is out the way all the others follow. You never know in the future we could have one "VERY BIG" Purrs social, may need to make a weekend of it..!
-
I enjoyed the mini-manchester area social we had at mine - but I must admit I do like the idea of pub too
Not sure how Amy will think of that after giving up beer last night?? :evillaugh:
-
I can take it. There's always Vodka ;)
-
Maybe we can add a midlands location poll? So people can vote for where they'd prefer to meet :)
Edited to say: I have had a look for any "Cat" themed pubs just out of curiosity but this :censored: off-site network I am on blocks everything by the looks of it except purrs!! :tired:
-
The only one I can think of is the "Cheshire Cat" pub in Chester-leeeeeedle bit out of the way!
http://www.cityofchester.org/cat.html
Not sure about Cat themed pubs in Brum though......
-
http://www.pub-explorer.com/wmids/pub/catandfiddlegreatbarr.htm
Just typed "pub" and "cat" into yell.com and there are hundreds. Hows about this one in Great Barr? The location may or may not be an omen...
-
Still a little bit too Souf for me :)
-
I've been to the Cheshire Cat in Chester - yum yum :evillaugh:
LOL Amy... Great Barr.. sounds good (or, er, great!) - where is it? :naughty:
-
Lol Dawn :evillaugh:
Amy that looks good and it's just off the M6 so I think even I could find it :evillaugh:
-
Oh just realised it actually let me view the map :evillaugh:
Reckon its commutable by rail so I don't have to drive and can have a drinky?
-
Maybe there will be a Northern one as well? :-:

-
We have a "Fat Cats" in Nottingham :innocent:
-
Or how about the "Old Cat" in wordsley http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/29/29098/Old_Cat/Wordsley
or the Cat and Fiddle Great Barr Birmingham http://www.pub-explorer.com/wmids/pub/catandfiddlegreatbarr.htm
The Romping Cat in Walsall
I could go on but this site might help with a venue choice: http://www.purr-n-fur.org.uk/fun/pubsign/sign1.html
-
As long as you can get there by train i dont mind! (I can't drive-me useless)
-
Maybe there will be a Northern one as well? :-:
LOL Manchester is not North you gotta get past Scotch Corner before you can even think you are travelling North
-

-

-

As for the midlands one, we need more people! Come on guys! :wow:
-
If Manchester is not north then what is it? :P
I am only a plastic Northerner anyway, haven't got the accent (and no haven't got a Brum one either even though everyone thinks Coventry people do) ;)
Nottingham is good, I am there lots of weekends anyway :) (like tomorrow, but perhaps short notice ;D )
-
I may in fact be in said Fat Cat's tomorrow...
-
count me in too! i'm in nottingham but willing to drive those local drinkers to the venue if need be.
i'm not a big drinker at the moment, so i'm quiet happy to be designated driver.
-
I can't guarantee I wont end up in Rock City tomorrow, although its supposed to be a night in! :evillaugh:
-
If Manchester is not north then what is it? :P
Its only known as North by Cockneys, up here its Midlands
-

Not only Cockneys I fear, I live in the Midlands and us round her consider Manchester as North West (ish)
We are in Derbyshire and it is known as the North Midlands.
Just looked on the net and found:- 'North West England is one of the nine official regions of England. It has a population of 6,853,200[1] and comprises five counties of England – Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire'.Although from many parts of Cheshire it would be easy to get to the Miidlands (if you drive of course) via the M6 although that could apply to Cumbria, Lancashire & Greater Manchester as well.

Born and bred in Scotland I call it the Midlands :evillaugh: The North to me is anywhere after Carlisle
Ruth I am in Rugby :) just about 5-10 mins from Jt 18 M1 if anyone is near me or needs a lift I would be happy to be a driver as I don't drink ;D
-
I'm Notts like CS but up for it
-
Born and bred in Scotland I call it the Midlands
When people talk of the North/South devide etc it is referring to England not the UK, that is possiby where the confusion arises. ;D
-
Really? Being a foreigner these sayings escape me sometimes. I am sure I am like many, who whenever they hear "up north" they include Scotland in that. I did of course come to live in the UK, not England so I guess that's where my confusion must reign.. ;D
Edited to add: if the timings are right I might drive up for this meet.
-
I was born in Gateshead raised in Consett and have returned to Gateshead and Manchester to me and my friends is Midlands :)
Up here people believe this is where the north starts :)
-
Lancs is up north and thats where I came from ;D
-
Like Ruth I thought that the North/South divide included Scotland according to the link below so do other people ;D
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North-South_divide_in_the_United_Kingdom
-
The South in this image is composed of the South East, London, East, South West, East Midlands and West Midlands, with the North encompassing the rest.
Not according to their map which is as I would think of North/ South and clearly Manchester id in the North ;D
-
Wales is also in the North according to the map :evillaugh:
Ah, bless.
I vote meeting in the South then :evillaugh: (as the Southern interloper to this social)
-
;D I know Gill confusing isn't it  I just wanted to check that the North/South divide included Scotland :evillaugh:
-
Wales is also in the North according to the map :evillaugh:

According to the AA route planner Wiltshire is 2hrs 9mins away from Rugby :tired: Well the golf club in Swindon is  :evillaugh:

Ellie, are you going to crash them all?
-
Going back to the Midlands based social, have people decided whether they would be interested? Need some numbers! ;)
-
Depending on the date and Location (and no kittening!) I am sure there may be a few representatives of Coventry Cat Group........
-
Fantastic! Will add you in (depending on situation of course!) any ideas for dates anyone? Some time in April perhaps?
-
Ellie, are you going to crash them all?
Might do :P :evillaugh:
