Im currently using Sophisticat choice 5L. It comes in a plastic tub, i have 7 cats using it and im starting to aquire alot of plastic tubs which isnt very economical.
Does anybody know of a large sack of clumping litter, 20L would be good. It has to be the ultra fine stuff thats almost like sand.
Iv tried Cleanpaws but it turns almost black when wet which is no good when you have a cat with bladder issues, as you cant see if theres any blood.
:thanks:

Have you tried the chick crumbs I posted about before? They come in 20kg sacks for about £7.95 where I get them at Jollyes. They are pretty fine, not quite sand like, but very much like Worlds Best in texture. They clump well, don't leave a claggy mess in the bottom of the tray, and they are quite light (in colour) so you would see any blood.

Gillian, I can't find that stuff :( been to a few pet shops and PAH :(
-
I have worlds best down aswell but the boys are picky about what they use and wont use it other than a quick nibble!

Hi, I get it from Jollyes - do you have them in your area? Otherwise, any animal feed type place, possibly places like Scats, Countrywide. I'm surprised PAH don't have chick crumbs I would have thought they'd have poultry feed.
-
Nope, I just did a search on the Jollyes website :( nothing near me! no Scats either! lol
Good old Manchester, eh? I will keep looking - I did walk around every aisle in PAH and couldnt see it. Our local pet shop is quite small so I didnt think they would and couldnt see it in there.
Thanks anyway ;D

Oh what a shame :( Maybe you could do a search for poultry feed suppliers, you may even find one that delivers! - and sometimes some of the larger garden centres have pet food departments that may carry poultry feed - I know the one near me does.

Whereabouts in Manchester are you? There's a Jollyes at Fallowfield retail park

I don't know what chick crumbs are .... is it actually chicken food?

I am in Worsley, I will have a look in my A-Z to see where Fallowfield retail park is!
There is a Garden Centre not far from us in Warrington, maybe they might have some? I think they do "pet supplies" according to the sign!
Thanks for the help ;D

It's not too far. Not exactly walking distance but a shortish jaunt down the M60 (I think the quickest way would be to come off the M60 at J3 and follow the A34 to Fallowfield (Retail park is just off the A34).

Yep, exactly right - its a starter food for chicks, so basically corn, which of course is what WB is - well corn kernels ;D

What's the advantage of these chick crumb thingies? I use grey fullers earth cat litter from Jollyes - £7 for a 25kg sack, the crumbs are a similar price for slightly less weight, although I guess slightly more volume.
Just interested why you would use it over normal cat litter?
-
Chick crumbs are the cheap version of worlds best, both made in the same way and absorb water the same. 15kg of WB costs £40 so the crumbs are alot cheaper.

Exactly as Millys Mum says, its almost exactly like WB (which would be my favourite cat litter if it was cheaper!) - just more affordable. Hate fullers earth cat litter with a passion! :) Chick crumbs clump exactly like WB, don't get gluey in the bottom of the tray, are light for the cats to use, and light in colour to notice any changes in urine colour etc. Its taken me years to find the perfect cat litter for multiple litter trays - and this is it for me (and the puss cats ;D )
-
oh ... I think 'll stick with my Wilko's fuller earth stuff for now as they seem to use it OK ;)
-
well it looks like this thread has been useful to someone! I tried to buy some chick crumbs on Saturday and the guy at the feed shop said he just couldn't understand what was going on but he had completely sold out because loads of people had been buying it up this week!! I'll go back next week and give it a try, he will probably put the price up though!
-
He he, ;D hope it doesnt mean a global price rise for chick crumbs! :) Maybe I should have kept quiet :evillaugh:
