Our current 3 are insured MM (and Tom RIP until last September) with Axa and we have been happy with the cover so will stick with them for next 12 months.  We initially went M&S route and changed when M&S premiums went through the roof.  Our new wee uns have extra toes  :Luv: which perhaps may complicate cover, (who knows?) but can hardly pretend they grew after cover started  ;)

OH told his Pa today about newbies. He is more of a doggie chap and we expected more than a raised eyebrow but Pa seems to have accepted the inevitable without too much hassle. Not as if he lives here of course but not sure he fully appreciates this means hols with him this year not likely to happen unless only a few days much later in the year :-:

Good luck with Gooey and Dexter.. Love the name Dexter (Philadelphia Story?)

Am effectively putting off the final decision for another year MM by getting insurance for next 12 months and putting the dosh to one side. Have I told you before what a ditherer I am?   :innocent:  Have to say didn't realise you had 6 MM.

I dithered with insurance first time round too, i left it too long and spent a few hundred on young simons mouth, then went for best price with m&s and got screwed over with them, then dithered again as couldnt choose who to go with, ended up with petplan. Hopefully thats that  :tired:

I technically have 8 as although Gooey and Dexter dont live in the house with the rest they are chipped to me etc but are up for adoption :wish:
My dads in denial and still thinks just the 6   :evillaugh:

We have an acount with our vet and pay an amount by standing order - this usually covers the 3 dogs for all their basic stuff - annual booster, Program tablets and wormers and the cats we know how much exactly they will cost as injjections and Program for uis are normal wormers are about £140.00 a quarter - we also do the outside cats in wet food and we never know how many of them there is till summer cause of the dark nights and morning

We also have a spare credit card for the really big stuff - like gems's FIP last year but always try to pay ech bill when they occur

Most vets now also wilol let you pay for stuff if its really big on a weekly/monthly basis

I cancelled the dogs insurance as they wanted £25 a month for Sky and 20 a month for Sunny - neither is near traffic and neither seems accident prone or has any exisiting condition and Sunny will be done in May so no wandering from his hormones

We haven't noticed much change is going from 37 to 43 foodwise but they do seem to eat more biscuits in the winter and the wet food depending on the flavour can go from 9 to 10 tins but we buy in bulk and this helsp and they eat special offers to!

Hi there!!!  :)

Me and Phil were discussing a standing order into a separate untouchable puddie vet bank account for £100 per month but that would be intended to cover vacs also.  Was going to start standing order this month and get insurance for first year so at least we have a fund to start 2010 with. I think that may be the way to go. Kittens and elderly puds are more vulnerable and insurance for peace of mind for kittens 1st year would be nice.  Axa is very good cover but 6 puds this year is going to cost almost £600 and we still would have to cover excess of £50 for each illness.

Nice to know we have your blessing on this arrangement. Hope you are enjoying the babes  and Momcat still chillin despite Lucy and Neo's departure :Luv:  I think of them virtually ALL the time......

I think the bit about putting some money aside each week or month for the cat/cats is the best one, as long as you do.  I have worked out over the years that I have had cats, and that is over 30 years, that most of the things veterinary costs have been for, would probably come under the minimum amount you could claim for.  Others sadly have been lost to the road, and a lot of things are not covered anyway.  In rescue we obviously are dealing with pregnant females, and I doubt that would be covered.

Remember these companies are out there to make a profit.  I think if you do your best, feed well, don't let out after dark and good management, i.e. if they miss a feed, don't panic and rush straight to the vet it could be something simple, but on the other hand if you think you can recognise a potential problem get it sorted sooner rather than later.  One of my older foster youngsters came up with a lump on his neck on Sunday night, deep breath, thought about it, and realised it was his injection site!  Had another injection 2nd kitten vax, and here we are again, lump has come up again.  I know they will go down without calling the vet out on a Saturday night.  If it has not improved by Monday then I may well call them about it.

Some people feel better knowing they are covered, but it can be costly, and annoying when you find the thing you thought was covered isn't.

STOP IT!!!!!!!

You lot scaring the life outta me!   :scared: :scared:  It's 6 right?  That's the limit. No more. Nada. Zilch. Right?

I'll lock this thread. I will!  Well OK so I dunna how to  :-[  Jeeeez Louise

Was actually goin to ask you a serious question at some point Liz about your arrangements for insurance/other arrangements for vet fees when numbers of babes start to increase above what may be considered the "norm"  :innocent:.  I googled cost for kittens with Axa and it's almost twice cost of our Billy aged almost 5.  With Momcat as well, it's gonna be pretty pricey and thinking, with that many, it may be worth risking putting money into a kitty account instead?

Thoughts anyone esp anyone in my predicament?

Hi JS. Not sure how often Madasacatter comes on to this section. She mainly goes to Rescue and Rehoming section.

She is based near Coventry altho not sure where little Tabby's new parents live.

Those 'photos are amazing.  They clearly capture the extra toes!

It was great to meet you both today, and you know you are welcome ANYTIME!

If anyone knows of a little boy any colour about the same age as these, I need one to go with their tabby and white sister as a companion.  Will be doing a home visit for the tabby and white this week as she goes to live with the new family at the weekend.  If there are more than one, i.e. from a litter, we will take any extras and find homes for them too!

Thanks.

Will try and think of some names....do you prefer "cat" names or "people" names? (Hmmmm, Billy and Freddie. I'm kind of guessing "people!" ;))

Monsters?  MONSTERS?  Those sweet little babies?  ;)  You bet your life they are  :naughty:

They were all over the pace at Madasacatters. Dancing, fighting, running, skipping, flying     Had to shuffle everywhere to make sure we didn't stand on them coz they are so fast. They just whiz by. Wot have we done? :scared: :scared:

Can't wait  :Luv:.  Couldn't sleep last night thinking about all the potential dangers that need to be removed from their room before they arrive.  Started imagining them falling behind the radiator and getting their toes caught in grill in top of radiator but one of them actually showed us how easily they haul themselves back up if they slip slightly down the back of radiator  :scared:

Have to start hunting for a decent sized scratch post for them now so they don't feel neglected in their new home.

Have to say the difference between having to leave Freddie at RSPCA for a while and leaving these 2 with Madasacatter till end of the month couldn't be more marked. They are living the life of Riley (and Lucas  ;) ) with her and we will have our work cut out providing as good a home.

Gosh dont say that, they'll be skin and bones coming to you on Feb 1st :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
