You dont have to stay with them cos of the condition but if you move, the new insurer would not pay for an already known condition.....but this applies who ever you insure with. So you need to try and start with the one that is best at paying and has the best terms and conditions.

Dont keep putting it off incase they get ill and then no insurer will cover that condition.

I now have to keep Franta with Axa cos of his newly discovered kidney problem but all my other cats could move insurers again......this is the 3rd one they have had............. I am not likely to change again after being caught by M&S.

However the payment that AXA has paid for Franta this week and also the one paid for Memphis, show why insurance is going up all the time, cos at the end of the day AXA or anyone else are not in business to lose money. More people are getting insured than ever before,,, so the amount of claims is going up.

Will try AXA, They seem to be good from what ya's have said.

BTW do they cover upto £7000 a year and if a cat did get a condition during this time would I have to stay with them for the rest of her life because of the condition?

Mine are with Direct Line at the moment but I am going to be changing Milo when it expires. I'm stuck there with Jess now though.

I did a lot of research before insuring my boys and Axa were best by far - boys are now 12 and both have re existing condition and are pedigrees and cost just over £11 a month each

I'm Axa too CC - I pay £7ish each for the boys. Axa underwrite lots of insurance policies but also do their own - the link Ruth has posted is the right one. I think Axa are a fairly safe bet as they are not likely to change underwriters since they underwrite themselves (which is what M&S did). They have a good payout level 7k each and every year and it's true lifetime cover ie they won't stop paying out when you've claimed a certain amount for a condition. Petplan are a good bet too but their cover tends to be more expensive and the policies they offer online are not as good as Axa's - think Petplan's limit is 4k online.

Memphis who is 1 is with AXA think it was around £94 for the year (I prefer to pay per year than per month). He's been insured with them since March and my vets have just put in a claim for him for around £800. So very good value and cover all the things you would want.

£7 sounds fairly reasonable to me, CC. Lexy's insurance when I first got her at 3 years old with no pre-existing conditions was just over that. Its gone up because I've claimed so much. It sounds like a good deal if you read their policy.

I got a quote for Lexy and it would be £15.55 a month. That's because even though she's nearly 6, she has a pre-existing condition (cystitis) which she's been treated for so any future treatment would be excluded. I pay about that with Direct Line but her condition is covered. Only prob is that they don't cover per condition per year, but per lifetime of the cat (wish I'd thought of that when I took it out).

I put Alice down as 10 and she costs £11 a month so I would assume it will be much less for yours. I am planning to switch the others over to Axa if I remember when the renewal is due. They pay £5,000 a year rather than per condition.

5 years ago, Petplan told me they were putting Kylies up to £13.50 a month and she was only 3 then

- that is when I switched to Lloyds but I didn't know about policies then.

CC go to www.axa.co.uk and go to the Pet Insurance section, its pretty easy to fill out the questions they ask are pretty straight forward. I'd expect you'd get a quote for either cat to be around the £10 but it could be more/less depending on your circumstances/post code/cats age.

You can only insure online with them so get a quote cos it does not oblige you to insure with them.

Right so, how much would it be for Macey, for example? She's 3 1/2 in good health except for her weight. I need to get this done incase she does become diabetic, I know I cant afford 2 cats meds for the rest of their lives.

I also want Harry insured as he is a roamer.

My AXA excess is £50 and they have just paid out nearly £700 for all of Frantas treatment, so would go with them cos all conditions they have compare well or better than any other company. Also the excess is the same irrespective of the age of the cat.

Just remember to insure as quick as possible cos there is a 14 day running in period at the start of the insurance, and no claims are allowed in this time.

Was thinking this morning that they have paid out all this for Franta who has only been with them a year and a bit, so already they have paid out miles more than they have received from me. Also been lucky with the vet cos they didnt ask for payment before insurance payout......have to ring them this morning to pay them!

For me, AXA every time. They insure per year per condition, and they have been brilliant paying out for Max when I thought his FIV would mean no payouts for his kidney and thyroid issues.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company? Im thinking of getting Macey and Harry insured.

Plus I dont really understand them so please give a simple explanation about terms or whatever lol
