Title: Shadow - she has been here a month today!!!
Post by: Desley (booktigger) on November 17, 2006, 07:50:43 AM
Title says it all really!! She is doing well, every morning when I go to feed her, she climbs onto my knee, and we have lots of nuzzles - she has taken to biting my necklace though, so a typical kitten now!! She is fascinated with my face though!! She is very playful now, but still skittish when I walk in a room, despite me ignoring her, and she has started to get a butter at going in her cage, have had to try and catch her the past two nights, which I hate - WEd though, she ran into it herself, so then I had to take her back out, cos if I have had to catch her, I give her cuddles till she purrs, and then she gets a treat. I think she is looking bigger now, and she is due to be wormed next week, so have made her an app to be weighed first, partly cos I am curious and partly cos I have no idea how wormers for kittens work, so dont know if they only work on a certain weight!! My vets use Milbemax for kittens, I prefer Milbemax.

Bless her - looks like she's coming out of her shell and turning into a typical kitten.?

How close to rehoming her do you think you are?

Ah Des, she sounds adorable.? Well done you.

Looking after youngsters is not really my field (or yours, usually... ha ha) so cannot advise on anything there.

I'm sure Ela or someone else on here will help you out though. Glad to see you on Tan's site.? :)

Lots of love to you both

Roz

We use kitten Milbimax and sometimes 1/4 or 1/2 a drontal depending on size

She sounds lovely and typical kitten. ?I didn't realise you had a youngster in care. ?How old is she?

I remember that when we had the four hooligans running around, no plant pot was safe, nor my curtains or washing. ?The worst bit was when George, Buddie's brother, decided it was much more fun to wee in the large plant pot and dig up half the plant rather than going ?to his own kitty toilet. ? He did find his manners again in the end.

Depending on how old shadow is i think that they normally give you a paste instead of a table and it comes in a syringe think it is called ....errrrm sorry can not remember ...(i'll go home tonight and see if i have any left) failing that i can pop into the vets and ask them.

She looks sooo cute and seems to be coming round ..sounds quite similar to my moggs ..he is a skitty little thing :)

The trouble is not many treatments treat tapeworm which is often necessary.

She is growing in to a lovely young lady Des and is a credit to you.

I'm sure the perfect Slave is there somewhere for her and I think you want an oldie for Christmas.  I'm sure your 2 would prefer a quieter life!

Good luck and she is a cutie.  Our Shadow is home now and is a boy!

Did someone mention pics?? WEll, I have been snapping all night, so here are a few for you, hope there aren't too many!! I still think she is a small 5month old, esp looking at Portia - all these pics bar the one on my ironing board were taken tonight, do excuse any clutter. WE have had a good evening, she still runs from me when she is playing, but she popped back in her cage for some food, so I picked her up, and put her on my knee, and we had lovely cuddles (as you can see) and she even willingly laid on my knee - so she loves affection, but playing seems to take over!! I doubt she will be rehomed before X MAs, as it is only 5 weeks off, and we dont home after the first week in December, which only gives me a fortnight or so. We do have an 8yo longhaired tabby that I would love though!! none of mine like her, they all spit at her, but she does come bounding up to them!! Wormer isn't an issue, I want her to be weighed, and last time the vet popped it down her neck for me, and all I was charged was the price of the tab, nothing else.
Roz, this is one of my probs, I have never done anything like this before, so no idea on what the signs of her being ready are etc, and the rescue have just said it is when she is like a normal kitten and handleable - she is in the cage, but not loose in the house, so I still think there is work to do.

It is odd Lisa, but very theraupetic in one sense!!
In a way I think it will be good for her to be here till after X Mas, I dont have family round, and we aren't having a proper X Mas this year, so wont be out too much, and I am hoping she is just about right before it, and then I have a couple of weeks to just fully make sure./

Well, after a conversation with someone on another forum, I have decided to put her in the cat room, and move the cage so Tiger will feel fine in the front room. This way, she has more room to play, and there are less hiding places, so I might be able to make more progress on her having fusses. Just got to get her used to going back in there and keeping Tiger out now!!

She does seem to like it, I get loads of affection in there too, just a shame she loses that when she is loose in the house. Tiger hasn't liked giving the cat room up though, so everytime I open the door she is in there, and then growls and spits at Shadow!!

Title: Re: Shadow - she has been here a month today!!!
Post by: Desley (booktigger) on November 23, 2006, 07:26:53 AM
We are still doing really well, Tues night I even managed to pick her up twice downstairs!!! She wasn't too keen at sitting in front of the computer though!! And last night she came back in her room of her own accord! I did do a test last night, and it seems that if I try and play in the cat room, she goes like she does in the front room, so not sure if I should only play with her in the cat room so I can try and stroke her in the front room or vice versa. She is up to be weighed tonight, and her next wormer, so we will see what weight she has put on.

Now my only prob is getting Tiger to stop sulking at the loss of her room - she runs in there as soon as i try and get Shadow back in, cos I use food to acheive it!! And then sits and growls at her!!

Might have had a breakthrough with Tiger too, she is now back on her cushion in the front room!!! And i think she has used the tray, which is better than her trying to use Shadow's. Suspect I will have to sit on the other sofa tonight so I dont disturb her though!!

 that would attract the others to the most dangerous sofa and I keep trying to stop Franta from stealing Sasa and Misas special places. Sofa is hers and desk is Misas.................poor Franta is feeling victimized again, cos last night he hopped onto Misas desk when he had gone to litter tray and when I looked down Ducha was on the cushion by the radaitor, need another cushion now grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

not a true feral REbecca, despite coming at 9 weeks from the streets. She is just very shy and timid and skittish. In her room, she is super affectionate, but it doesn't extend to downstairs yet!!

Vet says she is the size of a 4 month old if that, esp if she didn't look at her teeth. but, she weighs 1.71kg now, she was only 1.16kg a month ago - she doesn't feel like she has put that much on though!!!

I am so proud of baby girl Shadow, I have had nearly a week of getting her back in the room easily, she either goes back in to eat, or she allows me to pick her up and take her in - I have picked her up from the front room floor, the sofa and the landing now, which is excellent. She will also allow fusses when I lie on the front room floor, and then lets me pick her up and put her on my knee. And she even jumped on me twice last night when I was sat on the sofa, I did ruin things the first time by trying to stroke her, and the second time she was more interested in finding Tiger than me!!

Wed night she jumped on my knee!! Am really pleased with her. She met someone new again last night though, and hid all the time, but was then a bit wary when I entered the room by myself, so she still isn't 100%, but hopefully by the time we home after X Mas she will be. She was fascinated with the computer though!!

I'm glad you pointed me in the right direction of this thread, Desley! :)

It really does sound like Shadow is coming on leaps and bounds!  That's great that she's taken to jumping on your lap and getting used to your cat room!  I can just picture her fascination with the computer - my lot still get that at times, especially Willow and Annie!

I'm sure Tiger will get used to having the lounge as hers - it did take her a while to adjust when the cage was removed!

How do Molly and Pebbles react to Shadow now?
Title: Re: Shadow - she has been here a month today!!!
Post by: Desley (booktigger) on December 01, 2006, 21:34:26 PM
She is coming on really well, am looking into getting a friend for her, as all she wants to do is make friends, but Tiger spits, and has chased and batted her, Pebbles alternates between showing an interest and sniffing her, and pushing her away!! Molly is consistent though, it is always growling, hissing and ears back!!

Another excellent night last night, we had lots of cuddles while I laid on the front room floor (she prefers affection if you are lying down!!), and she also allowed me to pick her up when she was on the landing, take her down and pop her on my knee, but she didn't stay for long!! We had a good play session, and she is looking a decent size now, although prob still too small for a 5.5 month old. Here are some pics

She is gorgeous, I bet it wont take her long to find a home when we start homing agian in Jan - she is still slightly skittish and wary, but as soon as you lie on the floor, she is all over you - she just has odd ideas where her nose should go!! And now she is climbing things, she really is acting like a normal kitten and making me remember why I wouldn't adopt a kitten. She is hopefully getting spayed after X Mas, as long as the vets think she is big enough. I am pleased that she has come round so quickly.
Title: Re: Shadow - she has been here a month today!!!
Post by: Desley (booktigger) on December 21, 2006, 07:30:31 AM
Another update - she is still doing really really well, she nearly sniffed my friends hand when she was looking after them, but didn't seem too bothered when I got back, apart from being all over me and refusing to let me get up for about 10 mins!! On Tues night she willingly jumped on my knee twice and stayed for ages, and then used me as a landing place to get into the front room quickly from the stairs!! She is being spayed next Thurs, she will be 25 weeks old then, so as soon as we start homing again in Jan, she will be ready. She does follow me quite a bit, she loves coming into the bathroom with me. I am sure that she will do wonderfully in a new home, esp one with other cats. I will have to take some more pics of her.

She is - she has become a bit of a lap cat this past couple of days. She is going in to be spayed tomorrow, I do hope it doesnt set her back any. And then hopefully she will find a home when we start homing again in Jan, as she is only 6mo. I feel sorry for her that she has been in a rescue situation so long really.

Well, she is fine and I am picking her up in a couple of hours. Just before I had chance to ring and find out about her though, I had a phone call from someone wanting to adopt her!!! I am hoping to go and see them tomorrow, but they sound ideal for her, and sound willing to give her the time and space for her to get to know them. So, fingers crossed, she will have a new home when her stitches come out.

Well, the people were lovely, and she will really really enjoy the garden. They are coming to see her tomorrow (very keen!!), and if they still like her, they will be picking her up on the 9th Jan, which is the day after her stitches come out. I am really pleased that this little girl might finally have a home of her own, she really does deserve it, and she has certainly waited long enough for it. The vet said that if I had left her another week, she would have been in season, despite still being small for her age and only just 6 months!!

I have asked if they will come on here and keep us all updated, and they have said they will, I just need to let them know the addy. I know how much you lot like to hear about her.

WEll, she has met her new owners and did really really well - she let them fuss her while I held her, and then just laid on the chair rather than hiding, and allowed more fusses, she ate a treat off her new mum's hand and even played mousey with her. they are hopefully coming to see her again before they pick her up on the 9th January!! Some more pics of her - incidentally, I didn't give her the piece of cauliflower, the little minx pinched it off my plate!!

She seemed to have a hard bump where her stitches were, so we have just been up to the vet, and the muscle is swollen - vet says it is only the second one she has dealt with in the last 2.5 years - and isn't surprised it is one of mine, dont know why!!! She has had 2 jabs, and we are back on Fri, and the vet might take the stitches out then, in which case she may be able to go to her new home on Mon.
She has met another new person, and while she initially hid, I did coax her out, and she did end up playing, although incredibly wary. So, it is looking promising for her new home next week.

I couldn't understand what the vet was talking about at all!!

It wont be sad at all, she deserves to finally have a proper home of her own, she is 6 months old now, and has been with us since 9 weeks old. I am really pleased for her, and am already planning the next foster!! You just have to have the right mindset for fostering, and realise that they dont come to you to stay, you are their 'aunty' until that wonderful forever home can be found.

I suppose I have, and she is ready for her new home now, she has proved that with the new people she has met this week, although wary, she has tolerated everyone.

Desley was just about to email you when I found this thread!! Wonderful news about Shadow, she looks adorable in the pics, how can you not be sad to part with her?

You have worked a miracle with her, you should be very proud, and she will have a home of her own, I'm so happy for her I'm in tears!!

Good luck to you little Shadow, you will be missed! x Claire and Felix x

She is adorable, but I know they are never here to stay, only a temporary home till that forever home can be found. I am pleased that she has finally got that home of her own, and am excited for her - she keeps being told how many days till she gets to go to a home of her own!! I have the next foster lined up too!!

WEll, I do have to give the addy to her new parents, so they can keep us updated!!

Well, she is going tomorrow - her stitches have been taken out today, so the rescue have agreed for her to go tomorrow, it is only 2 days earlier, and we dont have to worry about trees or parties now. Am just about to start a new thread though.

WEll, she has gone to her new home, so I thought I would post the pic of when I first met her in the cattery, as a scared 15week old, and the ones taken this morning, at 6 months old and a confident(ish), friendly, affectionate kitten.

Hello,

This is Becky, I am shadow's new mummy. We have re-named her Tinky as she is just so tiny and cute!!!

As I type this she is sat on the floor by the side of me playing with a rolled up receipt I was going to throw away but she was very inquisitive about it, so I gave it to her earlier. It seems to be providing heap of fun!!!

She has settled in fine, she hid the first couple of days (she foudn all the possible hiding spots in our house!!! she even hid in the fire which resulted in the fire having to be removed, a job we were intending to do but just not so soon, but it was very funny!!!) but now she is a wonderful confident kitty and we love her very much.

She has taken to her new Daddy (Karl) too and doesnt seem to mind the fact that he is a bloke, even though we do gang up on him occassionally as it is now officially a house of girls!!!

We have some good pictures of her but I dont know how to stick them on here so when we get chance Karl the computer whizz will post them so everyone can see how she's doing. We also have a really good video of her playing with her scratching post, but again, I dont know if you can put videos on, but if we can we will.

Take care and we'll keep you updated on the adventures of Tinky,
Love,
Becky, Karl and Tinky x

Ooh and I forgot to say, we are going to the vets this afternoon to have her micro-chipped and the first of the flu jabs.

I'm not looking forwards to it as I'm sure it'll distress her and I hate seeing her upset but I'm sure the vet is very nice and she'll be ok.

I'll let you know how we get on!!!

I am glad you have found us and registered Becky, can't wait to hear more about her settling in and seeing pics of her. Sounds like she is being her typical self wanting to play with bits of paper - gave me a good excuse not to put rubbish in the bin!! I am glad that she is ok with Karl, seeing as she was a bit wary on the initial visit. Pics are really easy - either resize or use something like photobucket.

Post by: becky on January 18, 2007, 17:31:16 PM
Hello everyone,

Just thought you may like to see a video of Tinky in action playing and one of her chasing the wrong kind of mouse (the one on the screen!)  ;D

Click the link below:

Everything was ok at the vets yesterday, nowhere near as scary as I thought !!! So she's now chipped and had the first one of the flu vaccinations.

Thanks for all the kind messages, it's lovely to meet you all,
Speak soon,
Becky

Hello,

Glad you like the pics and the video.

She's settled in so well that she woke us up at 3.30 this morn crying outside the bedroom door coz the piece of paper she must have been playing with had rolled under our door and she couldn't get to it.

Very funny and sweet but blummin heck I'm tired today!!!  :tired:

Aww, she sounds like she is so happy, and it is great to say she has only been with you for 2 weeks. I am so incredibly pleased that she didn't have too many issues with being rehomed, and I bet she is still preferring paper to proper cat toys!!
