Good luck for today I am sure Bonnie will be fine and it's only a fatty lump
Sophie had a big one removed at 16 and is fine
Smartie had one removed too and it was nothing either
Better to have them gone so they don't turn nasty

Hi Mary,

You could also ask for a tin of AD wet food to bring her home with, if they have it. Hi calorie, great post-op food. Great for a recovering patient![/color]

Thanks Liz.  So her usual Gourmet and Dreamies are not good enough?

Hi Mary,

The price they're quoting seems really fair. If she's 13, and you're happy to, I'd ask for her to be put on I/V fluids. It helps the anaesthetic, help the kidneys etc, and makes for a faster recovery overall for the older cat. They will no doubt keep her on the fluids the remainder of the day so she'll get the full benefit. I know at my mid-priced practice they charge clients £50 for I/V fluids, so it should be cheaper where you're going, plus you'll get your discount. It's really nice of them to offer instalments... not many vets do!!

I am sure she'll be absolutely, 100% fine  I've nursed 20 year old cats, and they've been fine under anaesthetic! It's really good that she has no underlying health problems, too. You could also ask for a tin of AD wet food to bring her home with, if they have it. Hi calorie, great post-op food. Great for a recovering patient!

I know she'll be fine... and the lump'll be nothing to worry about, I'm sure. The op won't even take long... so her anaesthetic'll be quick.

Have a relaxing weekend with the lovely Bonnie...

Liz x

Thanks everyone - you're all saying exactly what I would be saying to one of you and I know I shouldn't worry.  I know I'll be in tears when I leave her on Monday cos I used to cry when I left Smudge at the vet just to have her teeth cleaned  :Luv2:

Liz I was going to PM you so thanks.  She is 13 and I got her from RSPCA when she was 10, she'd been with them for 9 months as they removed her tail and gave her treatment until she was able to be fostered - I failed asa fosterer after 4 days and adopted her  :Luv2:   She also had to have lots of injections to make sure the scabs never came back - so I was backwards and forwards for over a year - fully clean now, bless her.

The vet that comes to the RSPCA have a surgery near the RSPCA and as they did her op and looked after her for 9 months I will be using that vet.  They are also knocking me 20% off  - I've already been told it will be between £130 and £150 minus the 20%.  They even said I could pay in instalments. I have a Bonnie account in my drawer so I'll be ok.

Thanks again everyone - knew I could reply on you lot   :thanks:

Pointless telling you not to worry because I know you will, but as far as the op goes I'm sbsolutely positive she will be fine.  As to the lump, as has already been said, by far the most likely scenario is that its nothing to worry about.  But look at it this way, even if it is something sinister she has a far better chance of   full recovery if its removed while its small.
I will be thinking of you both on Monday and sending lots of positive vibes.

Ooooh such a difficult one this Mary

Both our Gandolf and Tommie had lumps as they got older.  I decided not to bother having removed just kept an eye out for any changes and to make sure they remained moveable rather than fixed.  They were no real problem although think they were a little uncomfortable if I picked them up squishing the lumps  :(

Their lumps were however on the sides of both puds and think maybe I'd also be inclined to go for removal if it were one of the girls and lump near a nipple but that's just me being a typical girl worrying like hell just coz of where it is   I've had a lump meself in that vicinity and ended up being nowt ta worry about  :)

Will be thinking of our gorgeous girl and her worrying ma next Monday

Mary,
I'm a vet nurse and see lots and lots of ops like mammary lump removals and mammary strips. In dogs and cats, these lumps are common, and nearly always nothing to worry about. They always take wide margins when removing them, too. If you're overly worried, ask the vet to send the lump to the lab for histopathology. That way you'll be happy in your own mind when the results come back.
I see things day to day with client animals, but when it's your own, it's a different matter!  And lumps... we always assume the worst when we feel a lump, but most animal lumps are nothing at all, just lipoma's and cysts. Is Bonnie an older lady? If so, as the vet to put her on I/V fluids, too, as it will help her recovery hugely.
Do try not to worry (I really do understand how hard it is!) but I am sure she'll be absolutely fine

Thanks guys  - I know I'm probably worrying for nothing but you all know haow much she means to me after loosing Smudge.

Gill, Eddie did say 'to have it removed and see what it is' so I presume they will do tests or whatever - not had anything like this before so no idea.

She was so good bless her she laid down for him and not a murmer out of her.  she had a fuss of him and me and some Dreamies in her carrier on the way home.

BONNIE'S Had the op and lump is ok AND SO IS SHE
« Reply #1 on: June 23, 2011, 12:54:19 PM »
I found a lump next to her nipple about 5 weeks ago and forgot all about it until last week when I felt it again.

I took her to the vet this morning nd he said it's a mamary lump - as she's having no problems and it's not got any bigger he said I could leave it or have it removed.  I went for removal - so I take her on Monday at 9.00 a.m.

I'm so scared she will hae cancer and I will loose her, can't stop crying.
