Not sure what thread this should go under.
But i have been thinking!! Wouldn't it be nice if we could organise a Purrs Convention! Somewhere central (if there is ever such a thing) where some of the rescues, and indep people on here could met up and talk feline!"! I am sure that there is s wealth of knowledge out there that we could all learn from. All informal, but a great way to impart knowledge onto people and put faces behind names.. Now i here you say? Cannot we not do that already..? Well its true that the internet makes us a smaller world but i for one would be up to imparting knowledge and a good chat, laugh if such thing were to get of the ground. Indeed i would even be prepared to pay for a small amount for some well known speakers to attend.
All just a thought, i would share with you all. May sound abit to grand, but you never know.. And with nearly 1000 members i think a few of us would turn up!!
Apologies if i am talking rubbish... ! I am sometimes full of wacky ideas....
-
BRILLIANT idea - would it be too much to all bring our cats too?!
-
Its a great idea but the closest we may get I suspect is the Supreme Cat Show at Birmingham on 17 Nov. It is sorta central countrywise.
I am hoping to be there if I think I can manage the journey back, having a kinda test run by coach on 7th to Art Show, going with a party. It would be great if a large gang of Purrs people would be there ;D
Thought of asking Tannibal to make some badges for us with a big Purrs logo :shify: :shify: :shify:
Only edited to take out names :Luv:
-
Eh Gill isn't there some rule about not announcing in advance what cats are showing?
Might need to take them names down :shify:
-
Indeed there is - us exhibitors might get into serious hot water if advertising cat's presence at future shows. I just hope this post can be edited. You can say you are going to a show, but you cannot say that a) you are exhibiting and b) which cat(s) you are taking.
-
Sounds like a good idea to me. It's always nice to put faces to names!
-

A trip to the vet gives me a headache as they make such a racket and thats 6 miles away, please don't say bringing cats will be essential as I will problably have a breakdown
-
;D ;D ;D badges ....... no problem ;D
-

Errr, no! You will however be able to enjoy the some 1500 cats in competition and on exhibition in club row, where there'll be furry ones (or even furr-less ones) to everybody's tastes. :evillaugh:
Oh yes, and spend all your money on the assorted stalls... ;)
-
Leeds is central right?
Not that I'm biased in any way shape or form ;)
In dublin on the 17th November! For another form of convention (comic books).
There can always be what other forums that I'm on call Drink Ups (mostly cause they end up being in pubs), group of folks from a forum get together once in a while just to chat. Normally ends up being anywhere from 5 to 50 people.
-
I was hoping to go to the Supreme this year, don't think husband is up to that though, Curfts is okay but I think he would say no to cats - Tan do you want to come?
-
Sorry been on the phone and only just got the message about the names.
Humble apologies, I had forgotten you could not say who is showing, thanks Tan for taking offf names. :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
-
i am going to the supream i would love to meet some of you , i think getting badges organised in time by someone would be good
and maybe if theres a few of us then we could pay and the money go to purrs :wow:

Thanks Gill, it's too far to the kitchen to check the calendar :tired: :tired:
-

-
a big badge with our name on and purrs , so we know who were approching :wow:
-
Yes but that is Tans ickle job, although I will help with advice
I need to remember that the Chrissy auction does not start on 17 Nov!
-
a big badge with our name on and purrs , so we know who were approching :wow:
Real names or Purrs names, or both? I don't want to get any funny looks ;D
-
i was thinking that should it be
cosmic creepers or boring sasha :evillaugh:
-
i was thinking that should it be
cosmic creepers or boring sasha :evillaugh:
If I were you I'd go with just Sasha rather than Boring Sasha - don't be so hard on yourself
Perhaps we should have our cats' names - everyone would know who we were much more easily than if we used our own names!!
-
Pin badge is a good idea! ;D Though I think if Tanni tried to put on our Purrs name, actual name plus all our cats names, we'd be walking around wearing A-boards...
The 17th November is a Saturday and the show is open to the public from 10 am though judging starts at 9:30. Show closes at half 5.
Would suggest a good place to meet up or lurk is near the household pet pens as they are together in a corner of the hall. The area near the stands and club row gets sooooooooo busy.
-

Great idea, we'll have no problem recognising each other!

I need big humungous badge then :evillaugh:
-
I am going to the supreme and would love it if everyone wore a badge so we could meet up - I would be a bit afraid to walk up to people otherwise in case it is not really who I think
-
I'm really bad at finding my way around - how easy is it to find NEC from motorway (M40) and I presume there is lots of parking????
-
It's really easy from the M40 Dawn and anyway it will probably just be follow the queue of cars, and there's loads of parking and then buses from the car parks to the entrance. That's what it is like when I go to Crufts so would assume the Cat show will be similar.
-
The NEC has its own motorway exit on the M42 and it's well signposted - it's pretty self-explanatory. As Lesley says, there are shuttle buses from the car parks to the show halls, which this year are halls 17-19.
Recommendations to take are a backpack, a packed lunch and very comfy shoes. :sneaky:
Here's the provisional hall plan for the show just to make things a little clearer: http://www.palantir.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/hallplan.html
And some additional blurb about how to get to the venue: http://www.palantir.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/nec.html

Hi Everyone,
I was going to go to the Supreme and badges sound like a great idea.
Dawn (cheesecat) and any others from the North West is it worth us going together to save petrol? (carbon foot print and all that! :evillaugh: )
Iv'e got to practically go past Manchester on the M6 so i could leave my car at yours or pick you up? Jon won't be going anyway so it would be nice to have some company!

It's really easy to get to - as has been said, it's signposted from the M6 and the M42 so you just follow the signs. It is worth checking out site and hall plans though as, in my experience of going several times, the car park people are hopeless at directing you and the signage isn't too good. So it helps to have an idea of which car parks are nearest the halls. For anyone who is disabled it's also worth getting there early as there aren't many disabled spaces, and you can't rely on the car park staff to direct you to the next nearest car park. One year I ended up parking miles away in a non disabled space (after several staff had sent us all over the place), didn't see any shuttle buses and ended up struggling through the mud to get to the halls, only to then see car park staff directing newcomers to (non disabled) spaces near the entrance.
In addition to Reynard's suggestions as to what to take, I recommend a credit card!
-
how early can you get there? I'm not disabled just really easily lost and would rather be there 2 hours early than 6 hours late!
-
Although the actual halls don't open until 10am you can get into the NEC complex and have a coffee at one of the cafes just outside the entrance to the halls. I usually get there about 8-8.30am! No need for most people to get there that early, but you can get inside at that time. The later you get there the more you get stuck in traffic and it takes you ages to get around the place. I think the good food show (usually the same weekend) is a different weekend this year so that should help traffic and parking wise.
-
I've just been looking at the list of trade stands etc, I think I better take two credit cards. :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
-
Yes def up for this too :) Have spoken to Les and we are going up together and it will so great to meet ya.
So how many badges do we need and what we putting on em :) I can do them in the same format as a fridge magnet easy :)
-
Perhaps the badges should just say Purrs, then when you see someone wearing one you have to try and guess who they are
-
I use a website for some of our statiionery and they are doing t-shirts with your own design logo for £4.79 up to 25 in number or £4.99 for up to 50. Maybe some peeps would like to wear a t-shirt and then we could get new members interested when walking around the halls as well.
-
oooh badge please! I am taking my OH, my two sisters and my friend Lauara, so we have a car full!
Laura is actually allergic, but she said she would just "dose herself up woth piriton" Was great fun last year.
-
are we going to make money off the badges for purrs though . like da bird , i think its a good oppotunity to do that ;)
-
Just looked at the Supreme website...looks like a good day out. Gonna ask my Mum if she wants to go (she's a mad about cats as me). Will be coming from Wiltshire if anyone wants a lift?
-
any of the scottish possie going to travel down or is it up
Sarah, Ratsie wot u think :evillaugh: sorry dont know everyone from Glasgow
-
Sounds like a good idea Lesley and a shirt with a biggggggggggggggg Purrs logo on plus a badge
Can you send me the details are they decent shirts and do they come in big sizes?
-
can't go 'cos I is in London working on that day.....
wouldn't go 'cos I don't like cat shows and all the snobbery that goes with it.....
apart from that the parking and entrance fees make it an expensive day.
If you want to have a central meeting then why not somewhere like the birmingham cats protection shelter at Hollywood? I'm sure they'd be delighted to charge you all an entrance fee >:(

Sounds like a plan! Me and OH would be coming if that is okay? (got to take someone to carry the shopping!! ) will be good fun travelling together - you can do either (picking us up or leaving car) maybe take whichever is the biggest car if more people want to come along too ;D
I love the idea of a t shirt ;D as long as its not white! I don't do white as I am too clumsy and would need a purrs bib to go with it
-
me no do white either (not V. slimming darlings ha ha) :evillaugh:
-
Could we do the t shirt as a club shirt so we could have them for any future meets be it cat show or boozers
Girls could get extra large and wear as a nighty, wot would the neighbours say  (who cares)
-
i'm up for it angie :)
can try and get john to run us down :) i'll pm mags and see if she wants to come too ;D
xxx
-
I will liaise with Tan and get a sample one done so we can see what the quality etc is like. They are normally good for delivery so there should be time.
-
wouldn't go 'cos I don't like cat shows and all the snobbery that goes with it.....
Excuse me Angie, I find that quite offensive. >:( I suggest you come to a show and meet some of us household pet exhibitors - you'll find we are not snobby at all. We just love sharing our cats with other likeminded folk. Added to the fact that most of the HP at shows are all rescued cats.
And regarding the expensive day out, I can think of many days out that are more expensive than a day at the supreme; sporting events, rock gigs and theatre shows spring to mind.

I went to one show to do some fund raising and was not overly impressed with the standard of ownership. Sorry if you find it offensive, but then its just my opinion.
-
Reynard do you tend to go to GCCF or TICA shows?
-
Lesley Tan
I have just received this email about tshirts, dont know if its any use to you

They want extra money for XXL and it did look very white..............I dont do white either
-
They do Ash Grey as well as white by the looks of things, but I will do some more investigating and see what I can find.
-
T shirts sound great and me too not so keen on White Maybe we could get a lilac or blue to match the Purrs colours?
I wouldn't mind def we can find some good t shirts to have then in the shop too. ;D
-
Yes thats sounds good ;D

Parking is free and it's what, £10? to get in which makes it a lot cheaper than many days out. I easily get that £10 back due to savings I make buying cat food etc on special offer. There are also charities such as cats protection there so there are opportunities to support them too.
I've never found snobbery at cat shows myself. Where you get lots of cat owners together you will get all sorts and I'm sure there are some that leave a lot to be desired in many ways but that's folks for you! I've met lots that are lovely people and adore their cats. The supreme is very much a celebration of cats - all cats, not just pedigree cats - and there is so much stuff there that you can't buy in the shops that I'd go for the shopping alone.
-
T shirts sound great and me
They do to me too, I would love one but not to wear to the cat show as I don't do cat shows.
-
before i started showing i was worried about snobbery , nastyness ect but everyone i have met have been great and really down to earth with a genuine love for there babaes , takeing chicken and buying extra toys
i met some really nice people at the wyvern show it was greate
-
Reynard do you tend to go to GCCF or TICA shows?
GCCF Dawn, though I'm looking at trying TICA in the new year.
-
I love all the things you see at cat shows and there are so many deals that you can get, the only thing that worries me at supreme , is how do you get stuff back to the car cos I cant walk too far and also cant carry stuff.
I have not come across much nasty stuff if any as most cat people are so nice. When going to the National in London on the tube , you would see all the cat people staright away waiting at earls court tube and on way back it was just a mixture of cat bags and goodies all cramming into the tube, I used to enjoy it so much but just wished there were more places to sit ;D
-
Gilly, there are shuttle buses between the car parks and the show halls, though you may have to queue coming out of the show and jam into buses packed with exhibitors and cats... :evillaugh:
May be worth investing in a bag on wheels or something of that ilk.
-
I have those Witty but at moment couldnt drag it around cos arm is too bad and I walk with a stick grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Arm been bad since beginning of year and although much improved its not likely to be well enough :(
-
Actually, I've seen these lightweight shopping trollies with a built in seat - all luggage needs rolled into one! ;)
-
I really want a shirt, lilac or blue sounds lovely. :shy:
I wouldnt wear a fitted one, too "cuddly" for that.. wouldnt mind a small sized average shirt though ;D
-
Any takers for a lift up from London? I'll be taking me car and am up for a shirt too!
Tan, Claire R may have a contact for the shirts (we can have logo sewn on?) I can ask her?
-
what side of london are you on??
-
That would be good Ruth, looking into the tshirts. Not sure if it would be cheaper to do ourselves. We have t shirt print paper but never used it before?
-
North Dawn
Tan will ask Claire.
T shirt print paper :evillaugh: me want some!
-
We have t shirt print paper but never used it before?
We have used that a few times Tan but in all honesty it is not a patch on the printed t/shirts and comes off quite easily.
-
I've used the tshirt paper before and found it quite good, still have the t-shirt i made for my Bon Jovi concert.
-
I'm all for a badge, but not quite so sure about the t-shirt.
From my recollection of last year, you'll need more than a t-shirt in the supreme show halls as they tend to be kept on the cool side and they're a little draughty...
-
Cool, drafty....................................I not coming then :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
-

Last year me and my friend were sweating buckets it was so hot! Although it is back in the other halls this time and I don't recall it being unberably hot before.
-
It was very dry in the halls as I went through a couple of litres of water, but it wasn't warm as was wearing a thick fleece jumper and my cat waistcoat - a faux leather job picked up at a boot sale for 50p and stops my clothes being shredded by clawsies.
Maybe it's the fact that at shows I'm a fuffy nervous wreck so feel colder than I really am...
-
I wore a long sleeved t shirt and a fleece jacket on top of that. It wasn't long before I took the fleece off and tied it around my waist, but with a backpack making me hot too I was uncomfortably hot for most of the day and I don't recall feeling particularly hot in previous years. I usually keep my jacket on with a similar top underneath and am about right. I don't feel the cold though.
-
Never been to the Supreme but was never cold at National, T-shirts was warm enough I think.
-
Maybe Tan can make Purrs fleece tops and vests so there is something for all occasions?
Not that I ask much you understand ;) :evillaugh:
-

Sheesh, what are you trying to drive us out of business! :evillaugh: shall ask!
-
Just to say vista print are offering a free T-shirt now. The offer is open to 30th September and if you go for slow delivery it will only cost £2.70 delivery for a white T-shirt (up to XL) with an uploaded design.
It may be cheap and cheerful , but if someone does the design and shares with all , order your own and you to can go to the ball!
-
Damn you, Irish sea >:(
All sounds good though :)
-
LOL Karen, I just think grrrrrrrrrrrrrr dark nights cos if I cant go it will be cos of that >:(
-
I'm still not sure either, I know my way to olympia!! I do like the idea of putting faces to names though
