Alternative worming preparation

Sasa had a spot on wormer as usual yesterday but now has a red spot on neck, very unusual never seen before could be jab site but watching now

There is liquid Panacur and granules which can be added to wet food for 5 days

Advocate spot on or in our case when visiting the vet we get the vets to do it as the cats freeze at the vet and we are paying for a visit anyway might as well get your monies worth we do with some of our feral

Thanks I can at least have a go. Our Myshka is a very hyper, nippy kitten, we barely get a 30 second stroke before she launches an attack,  so getting hold of her for a worming tablet is nigh impossible at the moment. She's also very fond of her food so with luck she may just see it as a treat!

Dexter eats it freely, Denzel is a REALLY picky cat, so have to give her it, but it is SO much easier than Drontal and less stressful for us both.

I never thought I would be able to give a cat tablets, but its not so bad. You can also get those tablet dispenser thingys, but not used one myself.

emmy_lou does your puss take Milbemax freely or is it still a throw it down the throat job?

I didn't like profender, it leaves a greasy residue for about a week 

Drontal is too big, milbemax is my wormer of choice, it goes down just like a treat as it has a flavoured coating and is nice and small. Littlebear it is safe for kittens if you use the right dose.

Or what about Panacur? Not used it myself but someone else may have.

She seems much better now, thank goodness. Would be interesting to know why customers weren't happy.

Now that's interesting Mymblesdaughter as when I rang the vet today they said they won't prescribe it as customers weren't happy but wouldn't elaborate on that. So I'll knock that one on the head then! I do hope Buffy soon comes around. xx

I'm not happy with profender so far. Buffy has been very unhappy since I gave it to her and won't let me touch her. It could be just that she is allergic to the spot on treatments.

Thanks guys, I think Profender seems to be the way to go then. I'll ring our vet today to see if they have it. Or maybe try one of the granule formulas that are around. Myshka has a healthy appetite  so she may not notice it in her food! Never had this problem with our old girl, she just took the tablet...end of story!

Mmm, wonder why they didn't offer me Droncit?

Don't think Droncit treats roundworm whereas Drontal does both.  I use Milbemax as they are not so big or bitter as drontal but Milbemax is prescription only.

Our vet 'gave' me Profender for Alfie last week. Haven't used it yet though as I need to get something for Cleo and use on the same day (Cleo is with a different vet, need to change that when I have decided which one to stay with).

I have just wormed my two. I gave Xander the tablet yesterday. After 4 attempts at getting one down Buffy's throat I decided to give up. I went to the vets earlier and was given Profender as it seems to be the only spot on that treats tapeworm.  She is very jumpy at the moment has had it on for about half and hour. I'll let you know how she goes.

She had advantage flea treatment last year and was for jumpy for 24 hours, I think she has sensitive skin.

I'll let you know how she goes.

I use this one my gang and it seems effective with no side effects:   Do not use on cats weighing less than 1kg.

Hi, Does anyone have any experience with spot on treatments for worming?? Our kitten is a bit of a handful and we are just winning her confidence so I don't want to stress her with a tablet, in fact I think it would be practically impossible as she only lets us touch her for about 20 seconds before she launches an attack!  Up until now it's always been the vet whose given Drontal. She's as good as gold at the vets!
