The test results came through this morning, they weren't lost just took longer than normal for some reason  :innocent: His anti-seizure medication is within the correct range for the therapeuetic level at 'steady state' which is good but in a way I hoped that it would be a bit high meaning the meds could be reduced slightly to try and get a bit more of the old Riley back as he is still only 60% of his former self  :shy: Saying that the change in him in 7 days is marked, I would say he was about 25% himself a week or so ago so he's moving in the right direction but as those who have epilieptic cats have been telling me, it's unlikely the 'old' Riley will ever be back 100% as the meds will always make them more sedate. I'm just thankful to have him alive and home I guess!

The kidney parameter was at the high end of normal so the vet recommended retesting in around 3 months when we'll need to re-test for the anti-seizure med levels too so makes sense. So all in all I'm happy with the results and just got to hope that Riley remains seizure free for as long as possible and that we have many more happy years together.

:thanks: once again to everybody for all your support at what I can safely say was the worst 3 weeks of my life, maybe I've led a sheltered life but I really don't think I could go through that again.  :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

Helen I copied this post onto the Purrs page on facebook just to update everyone.  There are quite a few folk who don't come on here as much nowadays but they still keep uptodate on events via the facebook page.  Michelle (furbabystar) sends all her love and big hugs to you so I'm passing them on

I'm so pleased that Riley is improving each day we all knew he was a little fighter and had it in him  :Luv2:

Very positive news Helen.  Sooo very very pleased for you all.  Hopefully you will be able to put most of this nightmare to the back of your mind and enjoy some proper rest now

How is Lu getting on with Riley now?

BTW, whilst Riley is not 100% just yet, his former Da Mousie performances, so expertly caught on video by his mom, continue to help sales in the Purrs Shop.  My mate put in an order yesterday after I showed her the video of the boys with Da Mouse  :)

Oh that all sounds so positive Helen.  And as you say, whilst Riley may never be 100%  his "old" self, the main thing is that he's here, he's getting stronger day by day  and he's already made huge strides, bless his heart.

We all want you to have many more happy years together yet - as much a trio as the Three Muskateers.   :wow:   All for one - and one for all!   (hope everyone's joined in, in the manner of Muskateer films everywhere!  :shify:)

It sounds like Riley is coming on in leaps and bounds  ;D  And I suspect he will never be banished from the kitchen worktops again!

I hope you can get to the bottom of the missing blood test results soon - it must be worrying waiting for results and them not seeming to have them.

Helen, it's awful when you're having to patiently wait, while suspecting that a sample may have gone missing.  I would tell them of your concerns if they can't give you the information today, and ask them outright.  Is it missing?  If not, what's causing the delay - there hasn't been this delay previously, and you're worried the level of care remains a priority as it is vital to you in your efforts to keep Riley at optimum stability.      have my fingers crossed.

:thanks: Sheila, I know loads about the drug itself, problem is without knowing the level at which it has reached 'steady state' in his system means knowing the rest is as useful as a chocolate fireguard  The vet who saw him Thursday is back in tomorrow so I'm going to ring him early-ish to see if he can chase it up.

My vets are great but in a way I wish the specialists were still taking primacy in his care, they have a full lab on site (not just the in-house machines my vet has which aren't as accurate) and when he was having blood tests there I had the results back the same day.

Helen, I'm feeling your pain with this one.  You could Google the name of the drug he's on and see if there's a Forum for it (there are forums for mot things these days ya know!)

Try to relax now and enjoy having your boy home, safe and improving.

Well I didn't get the blood test results today  :tired: I'm hoping they've not been lost because the sample was collected by courier on Thursday evening and by Friday afternoon they had the results back of potassium & sodium (potassium normal, sodium very slightly high but of no concern).

Neither of those were the important ones which are his kidney parameters and the phenobarbital levels - I rang today at 16:00 and had to wait til 18:45 for a vet to ring back... only to tell me the results weren't in yet as the receptionist had looked on teh screen and seen the potassium and presumed that was the result I was waiting for, seems odd that the kidney/pheno results aren't back if the potassium was back within 24 hours  :shify:

Today was the first day I had left Riley for a full shift, was very nervous as due to the length of my shifts there is no choice for his 8 hourly tablet to have a gap of 9 1/2 hours  :scared: He seems Ok but I have no real way of knowing if he's had any 'episodes' whilst I've been at work  :shy:

Great he is slowly finding his feet again  ;D ;D

I so remember rushing out of bed, upstairs or downstairs cos I thought Napoleon was having a seizure, every little noise that was not usual had me searching for him.

Won't get the results til later today, and even then the vet who I saw on Thursday isn't in today so if the anti-seizure medication levels are too high/low I think I want to wait til he's back in tomorrow to get his direction on a potential dose reduction/increase rather than have random vets deciding as I think continuity of care is important, especially with such an uncommon condition.

On a positive note there are little glimmers of the old Riley creeping back in... heard a noise last night and as with all noises I now have to investiagte in case he's having a seizure  :shy: Now I don't allow them on the worksurfaces in the kitchen, Lu has never been up there but Riley frequently used to - despite it not being 'allowed'. Guess where he was last night? I have never been so pleased as to see him up there  ;D This morning he started to try and sqeeze himself down a small gap in between my bed and the bedside table, he was trying to get to the standalone Da Mouse toy that had slipped down. He didn't play with it but just being aware enough to want to get to it is an improvement  ;D
