How is she getting on?

Post by: girlinleeds on January 08, 2013, 21:25:24 PM
Shes fantastic, had a bit of a scare at the vet as he found a heart murmur. He said to try not to worry and he'll check it again when she gets her 2nd set of vaccinations. Shes really settling in now and her very cheeky personality is begining to show, shes started to get very playfull. Our daughters begining to believe bella is here to stay and has asked for a picture of bella to put in her bedroom with her picture of barney and shes started to talk about her nice memories of him and not just how much she misses him. I think bella has alot to do with that and our daughter is finally sleeping through and not waking up crying for barney. She is so spoilt, everytime we go out our daughter buys Bella something she really is the worlds most spoilt cat

That's lovely. So glad your daughter has started to smile again.

glad to hear she is being spoilt!
hopefully the heart murmer is a slight one, our vet does check them before neutering so I am assuming it can't be too noticable (although i know its easy to be anxious especially when you lost Barney too soon).

its really great to hear how Bella has helped to heal the hurt with your daughter, you are both a good advert for finding room for a cat in your life  :)

attached is a picture of bella when she was here and another of her two kittens that i think were both rehomed already when you met Bella. One of our volunteers is a photographer and she couldn't resist taking a photo of Bella and her little ones.

Quick update, bellas had her 2nd jabs and the vet said the heart murmur is there but he thinks shes had it all her life but that shes well in herself so to try not to worry too much and take her back if she has any issues. Pippa told the vet all about barney being in the stars and that she misses him and says hi to his star, but barney wouldnt want her to be sad and that he'd like it that bella makes her happy. I was nearly in tears and the nurse looked like she had a tear i think with the help of bella she is getting there. Even dh has started fussing over her so i think shes making a place in his hear too

.. and me with a tear.. gulp!
the photos are really super - thank you. especially the last one of Pippa and Bella. We sometimes get people thinking cats are not good with/for children. rot!!

What lovely pics  :) Sounds like Bella has fitted in just perfectly  :Luv2: Did the vet say what 'grade' the heart murmur was? They're normally graded 1-6 with one being the mildest. My childhood cat was the biggest, strongest, healthiest cat I'd ever seen and he had a heart murmur - it never caused him any issues whatsoever as it was a low grade one.

They love playing together although who wears out who first is anyones gues. I really cant believe how much bella and dd get,  its really lovely to see them having fun together and i dont have to worry about bella or dd hurting each other as bella is such a softie she wouldnt lay a paw on pippa and pippa is so gentle with bella

super pictures  :)

and hasn't pippa grown in hardly any months!

i was wondering whether we could use the last pic of bella and pippa nose to nose (or others) in our photo archive? which would mean it might go on the website or be used in publications. totally up to you.

That photo made us realise that she may well be looking very loved (dh said tubby) so think we're going to cut back on her treats a bit as she is a small cat and being overweight cant be doing her any favours. Think they run a weight clinic at the vets so may take her just to check

it really is amazing how well they get on, dd loved Barney and he loved her but he did scratch her a few times when he'd had enough. Bella on the other hand has never once scratched her and they completley adore each other. dd does still talk about Barney and sent him a balloon the other week to play with (she let it go to his star) but shes always saying barney did a good job helping her pick bella. At the moment shes training bella to be more dog and has taught her to sit (only when she has a bowl of food in her hand mind) chase things and fetch and bella is putting up with it so well, although she drew the line at rolling over, even when dd demonstrated it

Thank you, bella is amazing she really has helped dd cope with losing barney. She fits so well into our family I cant help but think barney had a paw involved somewhere. Cant believe we've had her for nearly a year, its a year tomorrow since we lost barney time goes so fast

all weekend she's been at most a foot away from dd, think the paramedic scared bella a bit of friday as she was cowering under the table when he was seeing to dd. I shut her downstairs as normal on a night and she just cries until i let her sleep outside dd's room  :Luv:

What a delight to see the amazing bond these two have. My daughter was the same with her cat Kennedy. We used to call him the nurse cat! It will colour her whole life and all the better for it.
Get well soon DD xx
