Hi I have an 8 month old fitted with an e-collar which naturally she hates. It's to stop her chewing a wound on her back paw she sustained after being chased up a tree where she also damaged her knee ligaments. She's had it on 2 days and hates it. I don't know why vets give them these - she can't clean or eat with it on and has not used her litter tray much because it gets in the way. I take it off when I can monitor her but the last two nights have been awful. I've slept downstairs with her, though sleep is one thing I didn't get to check if she needed anything. Both nights she's bedn crated but I've got her up to check if she needed the loo and food as she's not been much in the day. I am totally shattered and have another 8 days/nights of this. Can anyone give me some advice. I have had so little sleep I can't go to work but couldn't leave her anyway as she can't feed herself etc. I'm at my wits end and facing a house move next Thursday!

Comfy collar is the way to go rather than the dreaded cone of shame

Had the same advice from Rosella Moggy.
So ordered a small one which should be here tomorrow morning fingers crossed!!
Have you used one and are the effective,comfy and mon stressful???

When Eleanor first arrived with me she too had a cone of shame to stop her nibbling her spay stitches. She was also in a crate and I remember well the banging of the cone along the bars - it was like living in San Quentin :Crazy: :rofl:. Fortunately, she seemed to cope with it okay (better than me!).
I've since invested in a couple of comfy collars - a small one for her and a bigger one for either of the boys. I haven't had to use them yet but I know people who have swear by them.

Fingers paws etc all crossed it'll be a success.
I look a bazillion years old at the moment with Louis Vuitton sized suitcases under my eyes!!!

When our late Billiejo had her eye removed she wore one for 8 weeks with no issues and could run, jump and eat just like normal

Another fan of comfy collars here too. You my find she can still nibble at her extremities so keep an eye on her, but she won't have the awful sensation of not being able to see or hear what's behind her - the main reason cats hate e-collars - so she may settle and not bother with her damaged claw.

It's her back Leg so we may have similar issues arghhhhh!!!!

A couple of Martha pics to more clearly explain the problem.
TBH the Elizabethan collar isn't the worst I've seen and the smallest comfy collar may still allow her to interfere with her back leg; not sure. You'll need to fit it and see.
I know Bob would have needed the next size up comfy collar but he is very lanky as mentioned previously.

She/I had slightly better night she's getting used to it a bit more so will probably leave her uncrated downstairs tonight and go back to sleeping in my own bed!!!! Bliss!!! Maybe I'll get more than 3 hours sleep tonight!!!!
