Hello,

I have a kitten, 10 weeks old male who is very vocal, at night time he settles after about 20 mins but when my hubby goes to work at 5am he starts crying and does not shut up so i therefore have been getting up to sit with Ozzy (my kitten) but he is still crying. i play with him he crys, i cuddle him he cry's i talk to him and guess what ? he cry's....also when i leave to go to work at 8-30am he sounds heart broken but i have left him with toys, food water litter tray nice fluffy blanket an old t-shirt of mine hot water bottle and clock !!!! i am seriously at my wits end, also we live in a flat and i'm so worried we are going to get complaints because of his crying, i love him so much :shy:
Please help me :tired: :'(
-
:welcome: to Purrs.... :)
The kitten will be lonely through the day....have you considered getting another kitten for company as that should help greatly! ;)
-
Oh yes i forgot to put that we get our second kitty on 22nd july, is there anything else i can do in the mean time ? will he cry until i get 2nd kitty ?
:thanks: for the :welcome: i'm so pleased i found this place ;D
-
:welcome:
Until the 2nd one arrives, maybe bring the little one in with you? Sorry, not sure I read it right. Normally for an older cat I'd recommend letting them just get on with it, they catch on quick and figure out a way to entertain themselves.
If you haven't left toys out of Ozzy to play with, and he's still a baby, then I'd say for now to bring in him with you so that you can sleep and he gets the company he craves.
Erm.. also.. be prepared for early mornings... :naughty:
-
yeah he has toys, do you mean to let him sleep with us ?
-
:welcome: to Purrs. The little one hasn't long left his mum and siblings, so it will take him a while to adjust to you. He will certainly enjoy the company of another kitten, I should think.
What is his name?
-
Have you had him to the vets for a kitten check?
Thats great you are already getting another kitten for company.....I would try some new play games with a laser that you can get for a very small amount from the Purrs shop! ;D
Purrs Shop = Blue tab near the top of the page in between "Chat and Arcade"....you should have a look inside as they have some amazing toys that cats go mad for.....Hope that helps!
-
I was going to suggest getting him a friend too so it's good to hear there is one on the way ;D
You might find that he is OK after you have left the house, when my boys were little I set up a live webcam which I linked to a website so I could see what my (two) kittens got up to when I was at work. It covered most of the living room (they had full run of the whole house) and 95% of the time you could see them, fast asleep, kicking out the Z's on top of their climber/scratcher!
-
You could take his bed into your bedroom at night. I think he's just wanting attention as any child does. I think he will be much more settled when kitty 2 comes. :)
Do you have a big teddy he could snuggle up with? This might help fill the space in his bed.
-
well you lot are brill did'nt expect all these replies!!!!
the little fella is called Ozzy as in ozzy osbourne  he has a big teddy that he seems to be in love with !!
off to look at this online shop thingy
-
As you stick around you'll note that many of us have no lives and live in here... :shify: so there will always be a reply somewhere... :naughty:
-
thats super then cos i pretty much live in my laptop ;) by the way my name is Ruth 2
-
oh and another thing, he has started scratching the kitchen floor and his food bowl....whats that all about ?
-
 he has a big teddy that he seems to be in love with !!
Ozzy is missing his mum. Give him masses of cuddles. He will be happier with a little playmate too, of that I am sure.
-
oh and another thing, he has started scratching the kitchen floor and his food bowl....whats that all about ?
One of mine does that too, I'm told it's an instict from their wild days - burying their 'prey' to hide the scent from others and eat later.
-
ohhhhh see i know nothing lol
-
ohhhhh see i know nothing lol
You'll be an expert before long :evillaugh: I used to think he was doing it because he didn't think much of the food as it looks like he's burying it like he would a poo in the litter tray! Purrs is a mine of information sometimes ;D
-
it sure is.
he is wild at the mo !!! just ran up the curtain lol
-
Hi Ruth and Ozzy and :welcome: to Purrs,
Now I don't want to get all "jobsworth" on you but there are rules on this site ... and the most important one is PICS PICS PICS! You can't come and tease us all with "kitten" talk and not let us see the young man we are talking about
As Kittybabe has said there are always loads of people on this forum whatever time you come on (that's one of the things that makes it so successful) so whatever question you ask (however silly yu may think it is) you will always get a quick and helpful answer. That's the other wonderful thing about Purrs ... we never mock or look down our noses at people that ask questions. We all had to start somewhere and the more questions you ask the more you will learn about the joys of a cat slave so please don't be afraid of us.
Look forward to chatting more and hearing all about Ozzy.
Sam, Foxy, Zephyr and Rossi xxx

What a cutie!
Our youngest cat Gizmo (he's 5 months old now) loves our snuggle safe Bruno (it's got a heat pad thing in it), he's got friends but we keep Bruno on the bed for Giz to cuddle.
-
Hi and :welcome: Ruth. Ozzy is such a little cutie-pie :Luv:
-
:omg: i'm so sorry to come back again but my kitty is such a vocal lil thing that ive been awake since 3am !
he just cries, i'm so tired
-
Keep coming back, hun, we're excited for you.
Where did you set him up to sleep? With you?
-
ge wont sleep with me so he has his bed in the kitchen, he hasbeen ok but last night he woke at 3am and not gone back to sleep since :naughty:
I am worn out, maybe im just not a good kitty mum ?
-
:evillaugh: welcome to our world!
He is young but he will test your limits even this early, he's probably not used to being alone for a while but he does need to learn eventually. Leave out loads of toys for him to play with in the kitchen. But sometimes its just that he wants to play and can't understand why you're asleep when he wants to play, therefore, cry to make you get up so you can :naughty:
He needs to learn early that you won't respond when you're sleeping. I would though, because he's still a baby, pop his bed in the room with you (doesn't need to be in/on your bed). Sometimes that reassurance of you there or your hand on him will encourage him to go back to sleep. As he gets older you can slowly change the pattern. The important thing is to make sure that you don't get him in the habit of knowing he can cry and you respond all the time. Otherwise you are sunk!
-
Thanks honey i will try putting his bed in our room tonight anything for a good nights sleep !!!
oh i do have to tell u this....he did his first sneeze this morning..it was the cutest thing ever !!!
-
Aw. Bless him. :Luv:
Now you are tasked with getting more photos.. iz the :rules: you know. More more more!
-
lol i shall see what i can do just for you :)
-
OMG he is gorgeous. He will be crying but he isn't used to being on his own ... sometimes a small soft teddy (the sort of thing you'd give to a human baby) is enough to give them a bit of reassurance and something to snuggle up with.
-
OO! Another gorgeous kitty! :Luv2:
-
Ozzy is simply delish :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: :welcome: to Purrs. How old is the newbie due to arrive on 22nd, a girl? boy? What colour? Any pics of him/her? Ozzy is going to be so happy to have new company :)
-
:welcome: to purrs :) Ozzy is gorgeous :Luv:
-
Mmmm - just seen the delightful Ozzy - was meant to be comparing energy price plans, but this is so much more fun!
Hope he's settling in better now, and that you're managing to get some sleep!
-
Hiya, Sweet Rose
Have you tried a radio with Ozzy? Radio 4 is good because there is a lot of talking voices. Can I ask how old he was when you got him?
He is clearly missing his mum and sibblings. :'( I am sure things will improve when he has a pal to play with. :)
-
he was 10 weeks old, only had him a week.
x
-
It's early days, then.  If he's only been with you a week, he's still finding his way round and missing his sibblings. Fingers crossed he'll grow out of it soon. They develop so fast at that age! :)
-
is there something i can buy to spray to stop him scratching my carpet ? sure ive seen something also something to encourage him to scratch on his scratchin post ? or am i just making it up lol ?
:wow:
-
another pic of little ozzy :Luv2:
-

:wow:
Pet Behave Training Spray will stop the little fella scratching on your carpet or furniture (you spray the area under attack) while catnip or Feliway will attract him to his scratching post.
-
Catnip on the scratch post usually encourages the mogs to it, sends 'em a bit doolally mind which is hilarious  as for the crying, if there's some siamese in his blood that may also account for it, they tend to be very vocal, permanently.
-
what more loopy than he already is ? HELP lol
-
When my kittens started to try and scratch things I said 'No' firmly then gently picked them up and took them to their scratching post and gently moved their paws in a scratching motion on the post. They learnt pretty quickly that their scratchy pole was the only thing they can scratch... that is unless I dare to close the bedroom door then they cannot help but scratch and yowl at the top of their voices outside :evillaugh:
Ozzy is seriously cute - if he gets too much just send him my way :evillaugh:
-
aww thanks for the top tip hun i shall be trying that one out, he is currently sat looking at my dish of ice cream !!!!! cheeky lil fella.
hmmm i might let you borrow him but I'm affraid my hubby would not be impressed if i gave ozzy away
-
He's beautifully marked, and his little paws are eminently kissable! ;D
-
ozzy is llovely :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
yes he is a cutie pie ! and i'm very much in love cant wait to get kitty number 2, just hope they get on ;D at what age does ozzy need to be sniped ? :( oh he is also a house cat so wont be going out to be naughty with the ladies :naughty:
-
also do kittens teeth ? :-[ stupid question i know
-
Aw bless. It depends on your vets practices but anytime after 5 months or so I'd say is good for neutering. You'll need to keep them indoors until they are though. You can get them chipped at the same time ;)
And yes they do teethe but not like hoomans. Their baby teeth will fall out in place of adult teeth and they tend to swallow the old teeth if I recall. No harm, its natural.
-
Don't be sad about getting him snipped - he'll thank you for it and you won't have a smelly house ;D He will need to be neutered at around 5 - 6 months of age, some vets will only do it once they're 6 months old but I wanted my two boys done ASAP as I was worried in case they started spraying. They say it makes cats more affectionate once they're neutered too but mine were so soppy and loving anyway I couldn't imagine them getting even more affectionate but it's true :Luv2:
They do teeth aswell, he will lose all his milk teeth and have his adult ones by the time he's around 8 months old. I found one of my kittens teeth and kept it somewhere 'safe' but have no idea where i put it so it's lost forever now :evillaugh:
Edit: Too slow :evillaugh:
-
Thanks ladies, my ozzy is asleep on my bed the lil butter! I have my bro painting and i think the paint scares him lol
-
 Cats know all the best places for peepies!
I have one of Paddy's baby teeth too :)
