not the case for mine, constantly chasing each other to the point that they lay and pant on the floor haha also get about 2hrs atlest in the garden each day - more now its lighter longer. Think they just like their biscuits - like their mum

She's also a completely different build to her sister, Jet is very petite and Cruz is more heavy set........

Is that the "baggy belly" look..........wondered what caused, Jet & Cruz both have big baggy bellies but Cruz's is bigger (both going to be 1 in April). Jaffa lost a bit of weight when I switched him to all wet (he went from half and half to two thirds wet and one third dry and then to all wet) which wasn't intentional as he didn't need to lose. He now has 3 pouches of wet food per day with a few kibbles of dry sprinkled on his morning meal, plus a couple of treats each day. He weighs about 5kg and is a tall, long, skinny cat! quite muscular but lean. It's so easy for them to gain on dry food as the amount they need is so small in volume. It does depend what food even with wet though as the calorie and fat content varies between different brands.

lynn-yep its £1 a tin and she needs a tin and ahalf but will eat anything upto 2 tins in a day, but she has gone of the wet r/d stuff recently. Even after her colonic irigation yesterday shed only have posh wet stuff or dry r/d

Tammy - you might want to try altering her diet - I didn't find r/d worked at all, I found a mainly wet food (only 10-20g of dry per day) worked the best for Tom.

my cat has been on r/d for about 5 yrs and the only time she loses weight is when she is badly constipated!! She was 7kg at her heaviest but is 6.3 at the mo.

Good point Lynn. Vte said Macey's idea weight would be 4kg and she is just a little over that, but she looks fat. Then again looking at her and Ted she's half the size of him lol.

if anyone wanders about food amounts i have 2 x domestic shorthairs..one is a massive cat and a healthy weight is no less that 9kgs for him, the other is a good sized medium to perhaps larger sized cat (compared to many but small compared to seb

) and they get the same amount of food every day...1 tin of cat food and 1 bowl of dried food (normally go cat complete but sometimes hills and just now its Royal canin)
They have both become obese when eating this amount (esp last summer when months of NO excercise) I had them on hillls r/d for weight loss and since then they have been back on their normal amounts, seb is still a good weight/slender (ish LOL) whilst fraser has increased slightly.

so it just goes to show that even the very big cats can put on weight purely due to inactivity. (meaning even if you think you arent over feeding you quite possible are)

Is there anyway you can feed her separately? I try and feed Bilbo and Tigger in separate rooms at the moment so Tigger doesn't steal all the food.

If you can shut them out and spend some time each day playing with her it would deffo help.
Just a thought is there anywhere higher than the floor where she cant get to? You could put the others food there so she cant steal it

Maybe he has lost weight cos she is eating more of it and not leaving a lot for him though? I would restrict the dry food - when I had Tom who needed to lose and the girls who needed to gain, they got extra when he was out of the room to build them up without the risk he would eat it all

Ted's 4 next month, he weighed 7.75kg now he weighs 7.5kg, but the vet says its ok cos he's a big built cat.

How old is Ted CC? Just the fact that one cat is losing and she isn't doesnt mean it isn't to do with the amount of food, esp as you said she gets to the biscuit bowl first. Lack of exercise and eating the same will certainly make her put more weight on though.

My eldest Ted has lost some weight so I dont think its the amount Im feeding them. Macey used to go out a lot before we moved but she rarely goes out now so I think its lack of exercise and she gets chased off other cats. She has started to go out for a couple of hours every night so hopefully her weight will start to level out.

it actually does sound like a lot of food CC, can you cut down on the dry food, and monitor them all to make sure she doesn't pinch too much? It is very hard in a multi-cat household, but it isn't impossible to get them to lose weight - Tom lost 2.21, and I had 6 cats most of that 14 months, 3 overweight, 2 underweight and one that was fine. The girls were so happy when they could have their food down all the time again!! Think the others have covered a lot of it, is there anyway you can feed her somewhere she has to do more exercise? I used the top of the stairs for Tom, so he would go up and down my stairs a bit more!! And he had to work for his dry food, which I am now doing with Lucy too

She gets 2 pouches of wet a day, and I put out 2 bowlfulls of dry a day between the 4 of them. But she always gets in first and eats half a bowl.

I do have a lazer pen but with 4 cats the others tend to get there first.

Bless her!
If you can feed her more wet food it would help. She can bulk out on that so she doesnt feel hungry, gram for gram it has less calories.

I dont free feed my lot because they would be huge but its not practical for everyone to feed meals at a set time.

A laser pen is also good for getting them moving, and you dont have to keep fishing them out from under the furniture!

Dry food can be thrown about for her to chase

Mine are on PAH 50% less fat dry at the moment, looking to get them onto a low fat wet though as they are getting the dry food "pouch" from only eating dry. It does seem to be helping though, I am sure Gerti has lost some weight

Gerti was 5kg last check up and Doc is 6 (I think!!)

My gum I had Macey weighed at the vets today and I was shocked. She weighs 4.9 kg, 10lb 8, I mean I knew she was some weight but not that heavy. What can I do to help her loose some weight?

The vet said she is a menice of a cat meaning the size of her. Macey is the black n white.
