Until just now, I couldn't even access the messages but realised after phoning another volunteer that I didn't press "*" before the 4 digit code. Well it said there was one message and my stomach flipped. It turned out it was from when I phoned myself at 8am :evillaugh:
I am praying there are no emergencies today (well any day really but especially today)
I have backup if I get stuck but it still panicking and feel like I need to check every 5 minutes "just in case" :scared:
-
Mark, you will do just fine :luck:
-
Good luck Mark, you'll be just fine :)
-
Good luck Mark!
I'm sure you'll do fine.
-
Good luck Mark, you'll be great
At least CP put cat lovers on instead of the uncaring people (in general) on the RSPCA helplines...
-
You'll be fine. The hardest part will be keeping your temper when you get some idiot on the phone wanting you to take their cat in because they're moving or having a baby.
-
Jolly good luck old chap, stiff upper lip.

Makes me feel ancient, I worked for an advertising agency in the west end when I left school that had one of those switchboards. Also our "telephonist" (now receptionists double up :evillaugh: ) also spoke in a "brief encounter" accent :evillaugh:
-
Hi Mark,
"One moment please caller, I'm trying to connect you" :)
Cheers

May I ask whom is calling madam :evillaugh:
-
:evillaugh:
-
Good luck, Mark!
-
"How may I help you?" :evillaugh:
I'm laughing but now its "ello"- and you have to say - "Is that .......?" - they say "yeah"
-
Found this quote from an ex GPO telephonist
" 'Number please', although we used to sometimes say 'rubber knees' fast because it was just a silly thing we used to do." ;D

Haha, yes thats exactly what my mum's friend (now in her 80s) and the other telephonists used to say when answering a call!
Good luck Mark - had any interesting calls yet?
-
:luck: Mark, let us know how you get on. Had anything interesting to report yet
-
A lady asked about having her cat spayed but I said she should let it have one litter first :scared:
Bad joke - actually not one single call. I have dialled in about 10 times today but nothing so far ;D
-
MARK!!! I thought you were serious for a milisecond. I choked on my cup of tea!!! Naughty man!
-
Sorry bc, couldn't resist :evillaugh:
I just had one message but it sounded like traffic and somebody talking in another room. I listened twice then deleted as I would need FBI equipment to make out what they were saying :evillaugh:
-
maybe it really was the FBI - of the CIA :shify: :shify:
-
:scared: :car:
-
Thats odd. No calls at all. Is that unusual or beginners luck? :evillaugh:
-
sounds like beginners luck to me ;D
-
Either that or I have butter up the phone system :evillaugh:
-
ah yes. Always that possibility. I once worked a hospital switchboard while at uni which had some interesting results (fortunately not life-threatening...)
-
No phonecalls!! Thats lucky and rather rare :shify:
-
How you getting on Mark ? Did you get a call in the end ?
Is CP Cats Protection ?
"Goooooooood Morning Cats Protection, Mark speaking how can I help youuuuuuuuu?"
:evillaugh: :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
-
Yes its Cats Protection but I don't have to actually answer the phone. Just call in to the answerphone every so often to check for messages and call them back.
I'm sure its working OK as it accepts the security code and says "There are no new messages"
I'm not complaining and I'm sure Sharon isn't either :evillaugh:
-
Believe you me Mark, no calls on the line is rare indeed. The most i have had on one day is 15, took me 3 hours at night to go through them all.
I doubt it will always be that quiet.. !!!
