Mia has been fostered by Blackpool Cats in Care for some time now. She is an extremely dominant personality, and because of this it's believed she'd be better suited as an only cat. It's also felt her new home would not have small children due to her bossiness! Mia isn't a lap cat, but will come and get fuss on her own terms.

Mia is still looking; she's been in foster care for quite some time now.

Nicky is getting pretty concerned about rehoming Mia. It's difficult because she isn't willing to share her space and that puts people off. Any ideas?

Is she fostered ina pen/indoor only? Maybe extra freedom would allow her to chill a little? Sadly theres many cats like her and are very hard to place :(
Does Nicky have links to other rescues who may be able to try her out?

I think most of the rescues near Nicky are ummm.....a little useless. I'm not sure about her foster home allowing her out, but I know she's being cared for in a home environment.

Received an email today - Mia has the offer of a home sort of free roaming. The lady who is offering her a home would set her up a sleeping quarters in the tack room and get a cat flap fitted for her. (After keeping her in the allocated time.)
"Mia loves her home comforts but has had her fosterers face again and she now has a severely swollen face. Mia really attacks when she isn't in the mood."
This is a snippet of the email. I've advised a trial period with the lady offering her a home; Mia has attacked her fosterer pretty seriously on more than one occasion and I think this lifestyle might actually suit her.

Thanks. :) I think it's a last resort, because Mia does like snuggling on beds, but the fact she can be so unpredictable is understandably putting people off. (She's done some real damage to the fosterer a couple of times.)

funny how people let cats get away with so much more than dogs, if it was a dog who has done "real damage" (even a small dog) it would be put down by now....
Good luck to Mia, hope she will be fine in her new home and not do any more damage to anyone.

Not always the case but so often people get attacked because they can't or won't heed warnings from cats. It is rare for a cat to attack without giving some kind of warning.

Yeah I know, and it is the same in the dog's case.... but you have to admit, cats get away with more ;)

Iv met quite a few that do attack without warning, they exist all over sadly :(

I think that maybe her fosterer hasn't always been good at reading the signs, but can't guarantee it. Nicky said herself she's been unpredictable and she's worked with a lot of cats, both in her rescue and employed capacity.
I hope she'll be OK too.

Well not to give a warning is a learned behavior in a dog, so I would guess it is the same in cats, if it happens so many times that the warnings are not read and respected, the animal would skip that step and go strait to attack without giving a warning as it has proved unsuccessful and useless in the past....
It is sad but I guess it's not the dog/cat's fault :(

None of us blame Mia - we don't really know how she was treated before she came into Nickys care - poor girl. I think it's worth giving this homing a chance though. Will chase up whether Nickys gone ahead with it or not.

I think people take exception to her "attitude problem." In all fairness she is quite aggressive, but I think with patience and someone determined to figure out what makes her tick Mia could be quite a settled lady.

I agree, if a person is willing to work with the cat it usually pays off eventually and it's so worthwhile.

Dont konw if its right me mentioning this, but we adopted Flora. She had been known to lash out etc.
But once we got her home, we let her settle and do as she pleased.
She settled great, only with the odd spurt and little bite.
Maybe Mia is a bit stressed out, which is why she is the way she is.
Maybe Mia will turn out like Flora if only given the chance X X

Sadly Tina, I think Mia is a little more ummm....demonstrative about things if she's disgruntled. I'm not undermining how bad Flora was, because I know she was a nervous girl, but Mia has done some SERIOUS damage to the fosterers face before. She had to go to hospital to get the wounds sorted.
Of course, Mia could just be a stressed out lady who will chill out in time; who knows.

Has the fosterer tried things like Feliway, RR, Serene-um, Zylkene? Kizzy is a lot nicer on Feliway, and you can tell when it runs out.

I don't know what Mia's situation is now as these posts were some time ago. She sounds feral to me. Maybe try to find a placement as a farm cat for her, especially as she seems a bit defensive and unlikely to find a domestic situation.
Maybe she has pent up energy which needs dispelling by chasing lots of mice for a farmer who will take care of her health and food requirements.

Desley, completely missed that post! I think a lot of things have been tried but Mia is just well, Mia.
HK, we've looked, believe me. Even people with stables are put off by Mias temper.

I always feel for the misunderstood tempermental ones, why is it they always seem to hate other cats making it even harder for home hunting :( those people more tolerant of such tempers often have existing cats!

That's exactly it, MM. People who love cats and appreciate their uniqueness generally already have them, making it a no go for Mia. Her foster mum loves her in spite of her temper, thankfully. She's safe there as long as necessary as far as I can tell.

Iv been lucky with magoo that he has adpated to being multicat cos not many would want him! I guess with him being older he has less worry about being leader and just gets on with snoozing :Luv2:

Me too, Desley. I mentioned her in an email to Nicky this morning and she's going to talk to the fosterer to see if she'd consider giving her a permanent home, as she's so accepting of who Mia is.
